Towncar T Posted September 16, 2015 #2 Share Posted September 16, 2015 (edited) This should explain it. Shame really, as North Wales is an absolutely beautiful place with very friendly people. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/business/business-news/giant-cruise-ship-cant-dock-9465813 Edited September 16, 2015 by Towncar T
Rare insidecabin Posted September 16, 2015 #3 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Hollyhead has never been a true success for big ships. No infrastruture for tours so the coaches have to come in from far away. Then there is the weather meaning somestops get cancelled. coach companies wanted non refundable deposits on private trips. Then there were the coach crashes that did not help. ( I think these were a main reason princess stopped going)

Shame really, as North Wales is an absolutely beautiful place with very friendly people. http://www.dailypost.co.uk/business/business-news/giant-cruise-ship-cant-dock-9465813 I wonder if this is why Princess ships have not called on this lovely port in several years, friendly people and great excursions. I will never forget the bagpipes as we sailed away. Supposedly, Prince William's helicopter overflew our ship.
Rare insidecabin Posted September 16, 2015 #6 Share Posted September 16, 2015 Princess was a regular into hollyhead but there were at least 2 inccidents with coach tours, can't find any reference, they were reported on CC. One I recall the coach hit a bridge. these were quite some time ago but Princess stop the round britians for a while and I don't think they have used holly head since they restarted(maybe one of the smaller ships)

What a racket!!! ;)

Rare insidecabin Posted October 24, 2015 #9 Share Posted October 24, 2015 Looks like just one on the TA. rest of the season non using HH. Might be a tester to see if they can bring it back in future years.
John Bull Posted October 24, 2015 #10 Share Posted October 24, 2015 (edited) I don't see coach crashes as having anything to do with Holyhead losing popularity - this is Wales, not some primitive & unregulated Latin-America banana republic. No, the reason is simply the unreliability of the port because it's dependent on the weather & sea-state - something in which Wales falls well short of Latin-America ;). Or it might be those bagpipes :D JB :) Edited October 24, 2015 by John Bull
kirsty_r Posted October 25, 2015 #11 Share Posted October 25, 2015 access in parts of wales especially Anglesey can be difficult, but this helps it remain unspoilt. Smaller ships are the way to go in that part of the world.
