Why is Craps so good on Cruise Ships

This is a "forum". Look up the word in the dictionary so you can understand what it means. What exactly is wrong with debating a subject. Must we all conform to what others say & never question. I believe we live in a world where opinion & free speech is important.

You are right that Dicenator can have an opinion but so can anyone else including yourself. However don't tell me that I should not come on a forum & give my opinion on what someone has posted.

If you look at my previous post I even offered to buy the guy a drink on the house if he plays at my craps table on my ship.

Take a chill pill mate & don't take life so seriously.

Don't get Vwrestler mad....his neck looks bigger than my waist.

I'm sure not all of you would agree with me on this statement. Since I live in New Jersey most of my play is in Atlantic City usually 1 day per week. Typically what happens is that I start at a casino with a good neutral bounce table and get in maybe 4 or 5 hands before the player population grows to 7, 8 or more players. I won't play with this many players at the table because it takes too much time for the dice to come back to me. In the 5 years I've been playing craps I've had hands of 40 throws or more 24 times. I've always expected the other players to send the dice right back to me but this has only happened twice. Once I start moving around from casino to casino the best I will get in is a few hands each at a few different casinos. So I never have the luxury of getting warmed up on a good table and being able to stay there for 10 or more hands.

On the cruise ships I'm playing on the same table for 7 or more straight days and usually within the first 2 days I've figured out exactly the right landing zone on the table for my throwing. Another thing that I usually do on the ships is practice my throwing on the table. I bring a pair of dice from home with me and will usually make 30 practice throws early in the morning around 7 AM or in the afternoon when the ship is in a port. When I get back to the ship say around 3 or 4 PM the casino is empty and I can practice then. Some ships have really good craps tables and I don't have to practice on them at all. The ones that require practice are the ships with the bouncy tables.

On the ships I have never seen any heat from any of the craps crew at all. Sure they will tell you to hit the wall with your throws if you miss habitually.

The final thing that I find beneficial is on most of the cruises that I've been on the craps players are not too numerous. Sure at certain times like when the early show in the theater gets out the table can get packed but these are amateurs who don't last too long before they lose their money. So I might leave the table for 30 minutes and then I can go back when there are only a few players left.

For my last 3 cruises here is what I found at the craps tables:

Explorer of the Seas - There were only 3 regular players the whole week.

Enchantment of the Seas - There were 4 regular players the whole time.

Carnival Miracle - I was the only regular player with one other guy about half the time.

On the Explorer I was able to get in 89 hands at the craps table in the 7 days I was playing.

That's why I find playing craps on the ships to be enjoyable plus in the 17 cruises I've been on since learning to play craps in 2007, I've made money on 16 of them and broke even on 1.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO flacplnj: There are quite a few players that do very well periodically. However, even the best of them do not "quite their jobs and play craps." A guy known as Sharpshooter, like Dicenator, is an engineer, wrote a book about craps play, but doesn't play full time. The late Captain didn't play craps full time to earn a living either.

It has been a long time since I have read one of the craps posts and I have to say....I missed you guys!!!!

I am too lazy to quote each post that sparked a thought in my head but here are my thoughts on the matter.

IN THEORY, if Dicenator is good enough to make the dice land in the same spot, same velocity, direction, etc then he could make the exact same roll every single time. Obviously there are too many factors outside his control to make this happen. However craps odds are based entirely on complete randomness and the law of big numbers. If he is able to limit/reduce the randomness then he could expect to see the results he reports. I am not even going to step into the argument of "is he good enough". Without having ever seen him throw I can't begin to assess his talents.

Either way good luck at the tables.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Fellow Casino Players: Getting back to the main question, How come Casino Play is better on a cruise ship? Because in craps they can't really change the nature of the game as they could in other games by fooling around with the payouts. If that was done many ship board casinos would go out of business. Some lines don't have craps. Just slot machines, and card games. Those lines have very small casinos. For them a casino is not a money making opportunity.

About Cruise ship Casinos: My only experience is Carnival Pride (6 cruises) but I guarantee they make money in the casino because the comps are good at least if you play slots. My wife always plays slots and 3 card and I play some slots and craps and her comps are always better than mine. Not sure about small ships with small casinos. We both spend a good amount of money on 7 day cruises and get cash, dinners, wine, gifts and free cruises so they must be making a profit.

Dicenator: Note to let you know the 2.0 upgrade added a new craps table to the casino. They moved it to the spot where the video Texas Hold'em table was before. I also noticed that the table was hard but with very little bounce. It seemed way deader than the previous one, a good table for soft tossers. Our last cruise was a Premier and the table limit was still $5 but the slots and tables were way busier and they had three casino hosts but were not able to give players the attention we normally experienced on a regular cruise. We were treated well but kind of like being a big fish in a small pond rather than a small fish in the ocean of players. I totally agree with the Dicenator's comment long ago that you don't get the playing time on the craps table on a Premier. I usually play 30-40 hrs of play on a 7 day but this time I got maybe 8-10 hrs total. All in all regular cruises are quieter and more laid back then the Premier and we prefer that! LOVE LOVE LOVE the Blue Iquana tacos!!!!!!!

Let me get this straight...you threw a 40 throw hand & a 34 throw hand & colored up with a BIG $350-400???? Wow....you might have made $1K if

the hands lasted another hour or so....

my thoughts exactly...

and I have yet to see a shooter be able to keep track of how many throws he made.

I am smelling something here...

Old Sea Dog

I went into my trip reports and pulled out my throwing information for my main way of throwing which is Underhand.

These numbers will be calculated as AVERAGE ROLL LENGTH. I don't think that you disagree that the average craps player has an average roll length of 8.25. The following listing is alphabetical not chronological.

SHIP TOTAL ROLLS # HANDS AVG/HAND

Car. Glory 136 13 10.46

Car. Legend 409 38 10.76

Car. Miracle 642 48 13.38

Car. Pride 251 17 14.76

Car. Valor 526 40 13.15

Cel. Summit 508 50 10.16

RC Enchantment 388 25 15.52

RC Explorer 741 62 11.95

Nor. Gem 144 9 16.00

Nor. Jewel 665 61 10.90

Nor. Star 197 17 11.59

TOTAL 4,607 380 12.12

With 4,607 throws covering 11 cruises on different ships I think that this shows that I'm very very very lucky.

Can I ask you how you are able to keep track of how many rolls you make? You must be a very rare individual. I know of people that sit at a table and write down each roll. These people are usually not betting very much. And they are never a shooter. How do you do it, in your head?

I actually saw the Dicenator in action on an NCL Gem cruise this past February. He was very efficient and never slowed down the game even when recording his own throws. I guess after years of doing this he has the recording system down pretty good. I am sure the little notebook he uses could tell a tory or two. I know on the last day he made money for me on a couple of come bets, as I had come in mid-roll. I only got to say hello to him on the pai gow table the last day(His wife was watching me play), and he was a nice guy. I wish we could have played more together on the craps table though. I would have been more than happy to pass him back the dice if he was winning money for the table.

Off to Las Vegas in 57 hours to spend a lot of time at their crap tables. A little anxious.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Grandpaul: Which hotel are you going to be staying at? Are you going downtown at all?Fitzgerald's isn't there anymore, but, someone else put in a hotel there called "D." Have a good time.

I always stay at Harrahs. Free everything and great location to travel from. I hit downtown every time I go to Vegas. I still have memories of the Horseshoe casino and the best crap games I've ever seen. They just opened a new Elvis exhibition at the hotel where he performed so I have to go see that. You think this is easy don't you? LOL. And now I have to sneak in a run to Turning Stone casino near Syracuse tonight and a golf tournament with 2 of my sons tomorrow.

HHHHHEEEEELLLLLLLLLLOOOOO Grandpaul: Harrahs used to be where the Holiday Inn used to be. Played there a lot. That was even before TI was there. Do you go to Sam's Town? I like that place. It's on Boulder Highway and Flamingo Ave. Downtown is nice. My wife likes to go see the lazer light shows at the Freemont Street Experience. The Horseshoe was a nice place.

I know where everything is in Vegas. Been to every casino. We go to the light show a lot. Always nice to see. Stayed downtown a few time but I like the strip a lot better. Lots of options. Have you seen the new casino resort they are going to build on the north side of downtown? Should be something.

I had avery nice time in spite of the 116 degree temps. vegas was more crowded than I thought it would be. Crowds all over. Usually midweek is a little slower but not this week. I ended up ahead for the visit which makes it even better. And I had three friends with me that had never been there before so we saw a LOT. Including the Hoover Dam tour which they loved. I'll be back there in the Fall.
