Buenos Aires Daytrip / Airports ...

Hello,

we will be on the Zaandam and have an overnight in Buenos Aires at the end of our cruise.

First we thought of going to Iguazu, but this will be too expensive for us, so now we are looking of daytrips out of Buenos Aires.

We already found something about the Tigre Delta. Has anybody been there and can maybe post a photo or discribe how it was ?

Does anybody maybe have another idea for a day trip ?

The second day our flight home will be 3 or 4 pm. So we maybe book a tour, so somebody can pick us up at the ship, make a city tour and go to the airport after that.

We have the possibility to book flights from EZE or from AEP.

Which one is the better choice ?

Thank you for your help and sunny greets from Germany

Janine :)

Yes, I have taken a very relaxing boat trip on the Tigre Delta and enjoyed it very much. It was an organized tour through our Cruise Critic roll call, but it is easy to get there yourself by commuter train and then it is a few yards to where the boat rides begin.

Another great day trip would be to visit an estancia (working ranch). We spent a wonderful day at Estancia El Ombú. http://www.estanciaelombu.com/eombu.htm They can even arrange transportation.

Re airports: AEP is the national airport, EZE is the international one where most flights leave from. I didn't know that you could fly to Germany from AEP airport. It's the one quite near to the port. Aerolinas Argentinas ( which personally I wouldn't recommend) as well as some more smaller airlines leave from there. We have always used EZE when coming or going to Argentina except for the time when we flew to Iguazu. And you're right, it is expensive, but it is an experience you'll never forget. If you organize the trip on your own ( book flights for example with LAN, book hotel) it might be affordable.

If you book transfer to the airport with HAL - which is advisable because of the taxi mafia at the port! - they also offer either a city tour, tango tour or gaucho tour with drop-off at the airport.

If you haven't been in Buenos Aires before I'd recommend the Hopon-Hopoff-bus which gives you a good overview . There's also a stop at the boat terminal where the boats for the Tigre Delta leave.

We did the Tigre excursion from Celebrity Infinity last January. It was a pleasant day.

We had already spent four days in Buenos Aires and seen the key sites. If you have done that Tigre is good.

Another trip you can take is to take the ferry over to Colonia, Uruguay. We didn't do that, but it sounds great.

You can get the ferry to Colonia through Buquebus. The slow boat (Elida Isabel) takes 3 hours and the rapid boat takes 1 hr for the crossing. Obviously the faster boat is more expensive (currently about $AR 600 for the return trip). Buquebus also do guided tours, but Colonia is very small and really all you need is a map (I have some) if you want to explore by yourselves. You can book online or buy your ticket when you get here.

The other company is the Colonia Express. It is smaller and I have never used it myself, but there is no reason I know of not to use it.

There are some flights going over Sao Paulo back to Germany.

There is also a good and not too expensive, but we will have a 9 hours stop at São Paulo😕

I hate such long stops !!

Thank you so much

Janine

Thank you !

We both like nature and taking pictures with our Camera.

As we read it won't be a good idea to take our cameras with us in the City and that you have to be very careful,

Because of this we thought that some activities Outside of the City Or even Iguazu will be the better options...

DW and I had our cameras around our necks and we too the subway and walked all over BA.

A couple of times, we were warned by locals about the cameras. BA is pretty safe, but some neighborhoods are not to go into. In particular, if you go to the La Boca area, don't venture outside that area.

One area that we discovered that was almost scary was the area past the soccer stadium between La Boca and choripan.

We had an excellent guide who showed us all around Buenos Aires. He was very careful watching our belongings and escorting us. The woman we toured with had a nice camera,no problem. This was one of the best tours ever.

Tigre Delta was ok but no comparison to the many places to see in BA.

Our guide also arranges Tigre Delta tours and could advise you. His name is

fabian Ali of Cultural Cercana, fali@culturalcercana.com.ar

While the Delta is nice, there is so much to do in BsAs that we took that option. Tomas Hughes of Bonaventura Tours is excellent. Like visiting the city with a friend or relative. Gets to know you and then takes you to great places.

We arranged to be collected from the dock, after disembarkation, by a guide, who drove us, with our luggage, out to the Gaucho town of San Antonio De Areco, about 2 hours drive from BA, followed by a day visit to the Estancia El Ombu. It is a lovely peaceful estancia, where we relaxed with a drink, rode horses, ate a traditional barbeque and were entertained by the Gauchos. Our luggage was kept safely in the car, by the guide and we were later delivered back to our hotel in BA, although this would have worked well for delivery to the airport for an evening flight. This would be a very good option for those arriving by sea and flying out the same evening. It combines transfers, tour and luggage storage, plus food and drink!

Is this fare from the LAN site correct (BsAs to the falls)? I used random dates in June.

Economy Cabin, Base Plus fare (and return same fare)

LA 4026 (4M)

Operated and marketed by LAN Argentina, Airbus 320

one flight at that price, schedule:

11:15 (AEP)

13:05 (IGR)

01:50 hrs.

US$137

Accomodation, on the Brazilian side anyway, is about U$100 or less, double, per night, and I have heard that the Argentine side can be even cheaper.
