Great Bay Beach

We have been to St Maarten before but mostly on the French side and we were thinking of just taking the water taxi to Phillipsburg and looking around and maybe go to the closest beach for a while there(i think it is Great Bay)

How far from where the water taxi docks in Phillipsburg is the beach where you can rent a chair or lounge and umbrella.

It has been widely reported on these boards that this beach has polluted water from rain run off. In fact there was a updated report from just last week posted about the sludge being dumped into there.

You won't see any of the local people swimming here and this is the reason. But of course there will be many "cruisers" who will post and say it is fine.

I have never read a negative water pollution report from Little Bay and in fact the reports that I have read over the AST few years were very good from this beach.
