I had hoped when Princess brought on-line a new ship there would be some single accom0dations. My husband and I are regular Princess cruisers but my brother has recently retired and would love to join us on cruises but he is single and faces the double charging. To bring on-line a new ship with no single accomodations is a disappointment and a failure on the part of Princess.

What do you mean by bringing a ship online?

The accommodations are demand versus supply. It is all economics. I know of only one cruise line (and ship), the Norwegian Epic, that does have solo travelers accommodations.

Sorry that you are disappointed but Princess is a business, and as such, needs to be profitable. For inside and ocean view cabins, Princess charges 150 percent, not 200 percent, so hopefully that might help?

Can you say "CRYSTAL?"

All Inclusive: All Tips are included, all wine & liquor is included.

135% for SINGLES (Balcony). 6 Stars.

Take a look at their Forum. Very nice, sophisticated pax. Princess is Mid-Market, not 6 Star.

Can you say VERY, VERY EXPENSIVE? Not to worry, you are paying for the tips, wine and liquor... It just is included in your cruise fare. For the cost of a cruise on Crystal, you can take three or four nice cruises on Princess! For single travelers on a budget, they are still much better off with Princess than on Crystal...

Actually, it is kind of rude to post this in Mr. Caluori's Royal Princess thread, don't you think?

Let's see - 7-day cruise on Crystal in the lowest category... $2500 to $3500 or more, plus add in a 35% of that for a solo traveler...
7-day on Princess - $600 to $950 for a balcony or higher... :(

If you can afford Crystal's outrageous prices, please feel free to sail with them! I would much rather cruise more often...

The original question is fantastic and very appropriate. I'm sure Princess is well aware of the demand for single occupancy and I'm very hopeful we'll see some single cabins created (and possibly retrofitted onto existing ships) in the near future.

NCL, Costa, & P&O all have single cabins on some ships. I'm guessing there are probably other lines which do also.

And unfortunately Nina, you're incorrect on the single supplement. Sometimes it's reduced but generally it's 200% on Princess regardless of cabin category, hence one of the reasons they now reward single cabin bookings with 2 cruise credits. I almost always cruise alone and I've paid 200% probably over 90% of the time. I'm not asking for a cabin to be less expensive for me than it would be for two passengers. I'm just asking (and what I believe the original poster was) why won't they consider creating 1/2 size cabins (which would take up the same amount of space as an existing regular cabin). It would be nice if single cabins were available over a multitude of categories but I think most of us single cruisers would even be satisfied if they were limited to inside. It's a fair request and would allow some of us to cruise more often, thus spending money on board and allowing the cruise line to generate more revenue which would be good for their business.

Oh and bringing a ship online is simply bringing or introducing a new ship into the fleet, which would be the perfect time to introduce a new category of cabin types.

Just booked BIL on Quantum of the Seas in a STUDIO with Balcony!! At 100%, zero upcharge! price for 12 day southern caribbean for single is $2000. regular balcony cabin price is $4000, or $2000 pp. Same thing for Anthem. Its the trend in the industry.

For us, the potential second hand smoke issue in the casinos; have heard from TA that casino is NOT smoke free; will keep us from trying out this beautiful ship.

That is pretty steep! In a double occupancy, a solo traveler would do just as well, if not better, on Princess! Of course, it would not be on a new ship!

Hi: Not true for me on the % I leave on 7/6/13 for Alaska and indeed am paying 200% as a single. I am elite with Princess & do also own stock. I am looking at the total cost and just biting the bullet. No perks either, and the inside cabin is far forward on Aloha, maybe, just maybe the upgrade fairy might call. I also think Princess should offer something better for singles.
I'm still looking forward to my cruise of course. lol

It is hard for me to imagine a cabin half the size of any of the inside cabins I have ever had that would allow room for a bed, a toilet, a shower, and a closet. I have never sailed on Princess, but I once sailed on RCI in a 122 sq ft inside cabin. It would have been extremely crowded for anyone except a married or otherwise very intimate couple, which it was fortunate I was half of. Taking half of that and making anything liveable out of it with even a modicum of privacy boggles the mind.

The single studio cabins on the Norwegian Epic are only about 100 sq ft and they look great. I think almost any size is doable with proper design and use of space. Plus I really don't need to spend much time in my cabin other than to sleep and that can be comfortably done in much less than 100 sq ft. Of course I also worked on board ships and always shared cabins much smaller than those available for passengers and that was for months and months at a time and while the space was tight it never bothered me.

A very small cabin designed for single occupancy certainly wouldn't appeal to every single cruiser but I would certainly love the opportunity to experience some more exotic and longer cruises on my own.

First, I'm not sure where your attitude comes from - this wasn't a rude question until you made it into a Crystal debate. The poster was expressing her opinion and I think it's good for Mr. Caluori to know what people are disappointed in about the new ship design.

That said, Crystal prices can be reasonably got and they are not outrageous considering the experience that is delivered. Just because they are out of your price range doesn't mean they are outrageous.

Was lucky enough to do a ships visit on Royal Princess when she was in Southampton and loved the ship but was dissappointed on no single cabins. But would like to correct your statement above as your sister company - P&O has a few single cabins on most of her ships after recent refits Azura and Ventura both have 16, older ships like Oriana only have 2 so they go very quickly
