abredt Posted December 13, 2012 #1 Share Posted December 13, 2012 Going Sept. 2013 on Uniworld and staying in Amsterdam 3 nights before cruise. Looking at hotels. Where does Uniworld River Queen dock in Amsterdam? Thanks, cb
WatchHill Posted December 13, 2012 #2 Share Posted December 13, 2012 All of the river boats tie up along the canal between Central Station and the Movenpick Hotel. Where the boats eventually tied up seems to change each week, that's why your docs will sugget you verify location upon arrival in Amsterdam. Nevertheless, the area is within walking distance along the canal. Amsterdam is an easy city to find your way around, lots of hotel options - look at a map as you narrow you hotel search, though the Movenpick looks very nice. abredt Posted December 14, 2012 Author #3 Share Posted December 14, 2012 Silly Question ?? How does the ship get to the Rhine? My maps show the Rhine is way south of Amsterdam - nearer Rotterdam. Thanks, cb
beverlyjack Posted December 14, 2012 #4 Share Posted December 14, 2012 It is via the Amsterdam-Rhine Canal. See http://www.kvsaguide.nl/Wiki%20Pages/Amsterdam-Rhine%20Canal.aspx

stretchcruz Posted December 15, 2012 #6 Share Posted December 15, 2012 I just booked the Movenpick for $85, so it looks as though we can walk to the dock from there? Great!
newfirsttimer Posted December 15, 2012 #7 Share Posted December 15, 2012 The Doubletree by Hilton is also very close to the docking area, about 5 min walk. We very much enjoyed this hotel for the 3 extra nights we were in Amsterdam in September. Next door to the train station so a quick ride from the airport, has a Starbucks onsite as well and a wonderful roof top restaurant and terrace. MareT Posted December 15, 2012 #8 Share Posted December 15, 2012 I just booked the Movenpick for $85, so it looks as though we can walk to the dock from there? Great! We stayed at the Movenpick in November. We were on a Viking sailing and yes we were able to walk to the dock from there. We loved the Movenpick . . . friendly staff and they had a great restaurant. franski Posted January 16, 2013 #12 Share Posted January 16, 2013 Going on River Queen Tulips and Windmills end of April, 2013......have you heard anything positive/negative?Thanks For the River Queen, Uniworld or the itinerary? We have sailed with Uniworld - and they are a great company. Their attention to detail is phenomenal, and they work very hard to ensure that their passengers have a wonderful experience.... We have sailed on the River Queen - we did a Christmas market cruise on her in 2010. She is an older boat, but has been refurbished within the past (I think) 3 years. We tend to book Aquarium class - so can't speak to the upper categories of cabins. We have done a Tulip Time Cruise - but it was with Scenic. It is a great itinerary - loved the time we had in the Keukenhof. You are going a little later in the year than we did - so hopefully your weather will be good. Not sure if this helps...
