small gifts on Christmas cruises

I am looking for ideas for small gifts to be given to cruise staff for our Christmas cruise on the Glory.

I was thinking about international phone cards?

I'd appreciate other ideas!

Most people will tell you that plain ole cash in a Christmas Card works best. It's been said that a lot of the crew doesn't even have phones back home to call to so they sell them to the crew that does. Their cabins are quite cramped and they share space with other crew members. The really don't have space for trinkets. Bottom line is they like extra cash to send back home.

I'm bringing them some homemade Christmas cookies.....I know they won't stay in their cabin long!

I think homemade goodies from home is a great idea for people who wish to give something other than cash. When we were on the Glory in September, Our dining room server told us that alot of times those phone cards do not work in certain pay phones.

I think homemade goodies is good only IF they are really outstanding. These folks eat on the ship every day, so good food isn't the treat it is for those of us having to live with what comes out of our own kitchens. It'd have to be something really special, and at this moment, I can't think of what that could be. Cash would be better.

No, good food would be a treat for them. If a crew member has family on board, they can eat in the passenger dining room with their family. They tend to have a lot of friends wanting to join them.

What if each one of the stewards cabins brought a tin of cookies? What the heck is he going to do with 15 or 20 tins?

Bottom line...CASH - forget the card - you don't what religion, if any he/she practices.

Geez.....I don't think many people are going to take homemade goodies to them. I know the crew eats in a mess hall...and they don't eat what the passengers eat. If he really doesn't want them....believe me....my hubby will eat them! After all, it is the holiday season!And their still going to get their cash at the end of the week!

Give them what ever makes you feel good. After all it's your gift to give. But where did you hear that they don't eat the same food. When we were on the Glory one of the girls told us they get the same food but not presented quite so nice.

They said the food was a real nice part of their job.

For you maybe but maybe not for the steward. If they get their tip at the end of the week that's great. If you want to spred holiday cheer then give them cash. They'll appreciate it much more and it's unlikely it will end up in the trash.

Although it is very nice of you wanting to give out homemade treats; however, if it were me you were giving food treats to, I would most definitely trash it. Why? One simple reason: I don't know you. You know the old saying, "don't take candy from strangers." That includes cookies & other treats one eats, too, in my book.

Cookies sound like a good idea. I am sure the steward will be appreciative no matter what you get them. You took time out of your life and tried to make theirs a little happier, most normal humans will get the message and be delighted with the thought.

OMG Seven that's the funniest one I've read in a while. I laughed so hard the person in the next office stuck her head in mine to ask what was so funny!! ROFLMAO. But only a 2x4? Geez.....you cheap azz ;)

LOL T no not M&M or whatever his name is and a very good point.

My son works on a Carnival ship. I used to think he liked me to cruise because he wanted to see his mom, but I think it's really because he gets to eat in the dining room. He brings someone with him each night to dinner. We get to meet a lot of the staff/crew that way. He usually has us take him to a local restaurant once during the week.

The mom of a member of the crew is expert enough for me! Thanks for your help.
