Texas liquor tax and restrictions

I read a couple trip reports that Texas has special rules as it relates to liquor taxation and that you can't drink it on departure day.

Can somebody familiar with this, please clarify?

I just couldn't tell what they were talking about.

After you board the ship and until you are out of Texas waters, the ship can sell only alcohol that was purchased in Texas and where the Texas tax was paid. So, this generally means that not every brand they normally carry will be available until the ship is in international waters. Alcohol will be available for sale, but you might not be able to get your favorite brand.

Once we were delayed leaving Galveston by fog for a few hours, and they actually ran out of Texas stamped beer. Many unhappy campers that day.

It's probably not a big enough issue for the Texas legislature to address. So I would imagine there will be many unhappy campers in the future.

Maybe an hour or so after leaving the dock.

Alcohol will be available for sale, but you might not be able to get your favorite brand.

You also get charged a local tax on it, in addition to the 15% gratuity.

They do play by the same rules, they just buy some name brands from Texas Distributors so they can offer those brands before leaving Texas waters, where Princess has decided to only buy bar pour brands from Texas distributors.
