New York Guide

Fodors and Frommers are both very good starting points; no experience with Lonely Planet. They will also be overwhelming, as there is much more in either than you can possibly see, do, eat, or drink!

Do you have specific interests? Are you a museum person? A foodie? A shopaholic? A history buff? Or a big theater fan? Walk, cab, public transportation?

Most of the guides will divide NYC (really Manhattan, for the most part) by neighborhood, food type, and hotel type. You then have to stitch the city together based on your interests. If you're actually looking for printed guidebooks, I probably would start with Fodors and Frommers, then hit the 'net, including this board. There are a lot of New Yorkers as well as those of us who visit frequently here.
