How is the weather in Japan now? We'll be there in two weeks and are wondering if she should take a jacket?

We were in Spain in May and the weather was showing temps in the 70'sF and when we arrived it was 48F!!! We had to go shopping for a jacket.

I always bring a light coat now and a sweater or light fleece to go under it. History of weather gives you some idea but averages don't protect or overrule reality of that day. I ended up having to buy a light fleece at Disney World Florida in MAY! Weirdest weather I've ever seen. If you look at the globe -- Japan is on same latitude of upper Maine/New York. My friend in Syracuse NY reported 38 degrees TODAY the last weekend of summer. Japan could hit that too -- if Mother Nature wants to. Take your coat and some long pants too. :p

Northern Japan (Hokkaido) has weather similar to North Alaska.

Southern Japan (Okinawa) has weather very similar to Hawaii.

The remainder of the country has weather somewhere in between.

If you could tell us where in Japan you are visiting, we might be able to give you a much better idea on what to expect.

We'll be in Tokyo for a few days and then our cruise goes out of Yokohama to Kobe, Nagasaki, Beppu, Kagoshima, Jeju and then we spend a few days in Kyoto.

Tokyo in early October is normally beautiful; sunny skies and little rain.

Temperatures should be in the 20's Celsius.

Yokohama - which is now a Tokyo suburb - is quite similar.

The other Japanese ports you are visiting are a bit further South, and as a result generally just a bit warmer.
