do I need to exchange for the vendors at Chichen Itza ? I know that in the city amercian is acceptable..

Nope - the US Dollar is accepted. Small bills (5's and singles) will help - they never seem to have change. :rolleyes:

USD, small bills 1's/5's make sure that you bargain and shop around. They will send kids out to try to sell you stuff or bring you to their area. Remember the real reason you are there is not to shop. I broke away from our tour group so I could see the majority of the site especially the observatory and some of the remote areas that the other did not get to see. I didn't see anything worth giving up valuable touring time. Make sure you bring snacks, sunscreen, hat and plenty of water.
