Want to see Orient/Maho and Marigot without tour

Hi everyone, we will be in St Maarten on the 14th of may from 8 am-5 pm and would like to see both Orient and Maho beaches as well as check out Marigot.

We were looking at Bernards tours but really dont like the fact that you only get 90-120 minutes on the beach and there was a trip advisor review that said their time there was cut short to an hour and they didnt even get to Maho beach because people in their tour group had to be back on their ship by 1:30

Would it be doable for us (wife and i) to do the following

- Off the ship by 830, take a cab to Orient and hang out there till noon

- Cab to Marigot for lunch and walk around for an hour or so, get some lunch

- Cab from Marigot to Maho, check out the planes for around an hour and then cab back to cruise port

I know the cab rides will be more expensive than renting a car, but we will probably have several tasty beverages during the day a DUI would be much more expensive than taxi:D

Sure, you can use all the taxis you please....but it is going to cost some real money. Or, you could simply rent a car (at the port) and drive yourself around the entire island. Or, you could negotiate a deal with a single taxi driver (or tour company) to have a car/driver for the entire day. What you do and how you do it is all up to you...and all quite doable. The major limiting factor (for many folks) is your budget.

For a good estimator of what a taxi would cost you, see this site with its taxi rates and zone map. A little research would work well.

http://taxistmaarten.com/zones-rates/

Your route would be zone 7 to zone 11--$20 pp; then zone 11 to 15--$20 pp; then zone 15-zone 3--$15 pp and finally, zone 3 to zone 7--$15 pp.

$180 RT for 2. Give the guy(s) a tip (tips) and you're talking $200+
