Flagship Hotel in Galveston (MERGED THREADS)

Recommended Posts

Has anyone ever stayed at this hotel? We are booked there for an overnight on September 6 for our September 7 sailing on the Conquest. I don't know anything about it but I thought it was pretty cool that it is actually on the pier and that all rooms are ocean view. Please, don't scare me to death if you didn't like it but give me an idea if we are going to be okay with this hotel. Again, booked and paid for already. Okay, let the games begin.... :o

we stayed there a couple of years ago, they were remodling and our room was not what we expected. we ended up switching hotels. of course like i said they were remodling so it could be fabulous now. it's always pretty full, so they must be doing something right!

also, pretty much all the hotels on seawall blvd. are oceanview rooms, but it is neat that the flagship however is built on the pier over the water.

I lived in the galveston area for the last 4 yrs, and have been inside the flagship. The rooms are nice, but not extravagant. They have a pool in front of the hotel, and there is a place at the end of the pier that you can fish off of. My opinion is a 3 star place. We are sailing on the 29th of June on conquest. We have a room at Gaido's Seaside Inn, they have free cruise parking and a free continental breakfast. The flagship as I recall does not have this.

Take it from someone that has been here almost 50 years:eek: , the Flagship is a dump. It is tied up in court for a workmans comp case, the repairs are on hold.

check galveston dot com for a better deal. Two new LaQuintas are in town, several more.

The Galvez is one of the most elegant spots along the water.

The Flagship is horrible.

We have always used the Harbor House. They allow you to park your vehicle in their lot for your entire cruise period (at least they used to, for a nominal fee)

The property is walking distance to the piers, the Strand, great restaurants.... Have never had a bad experience staying here.

The Galvez is just OK. It used to be fabulous, now a bit over-rated.

The Tremont is tops, but too pricey.

Have a great trip!

Stayed there once and never again. No breakfast, except a box of day old donuts, no drinks or coffee. Elevator very slow, cramped, and groaned. Didn't know if we were going to make it up. Wallpaper peeling and mold in the bathroom. My husband was taking a shower and a "glob" of something dropped out of the ceiling on him. The balcony was nice to people watch. Go to http://www.tripadivsor.com and read other reviews.

I actually like the Flagship (I've also stayed in the Galvez, which is a great place) but it is a little rundown. On the plus side, seagulls will swarm about your window and on the east side there's a great view of the Balinese room nightclub (and former illegal casino).

The Flagship is a great concept - built out over the Gulf with seagulls flying past your windows - but is in dire need of the updating which is currently stalled by legal problems. Those of us in the area would love to see it "restored" but, until that happens, it's certainly not somewhere I'd recommend.

For local color try the Galvez or the Tremont or Harbour House - or even the San Luis or one of Galveston's B&B's.

I've stayed there twice ('06&'07):

Pro: Good location

Inexpensive

Free cruise parking

Neat experience out over the water with the seagulls just outside

No matter what kind of room/bed you have on the cruise you will

appreciate it after a night in the Flagship.

Con: Definitely seen better days

Bed mattresses like exterior grade plywood

Cleanliness is marginal

No free shuttle service to/from dock

If you are looking for an inexpensive place reasonably close to the cruise ship, are appreciate the view and novelty of the site, and fairly tolerant of less than ideal sleeping arrangements then go for it - if nothing else you will have something to talk about....on several fronts. I have stayed in a lot worse, but I've darn sure stayed in better.

Both times we stayed there we were with a group and someone else had made the arrangements...it wasn't bad enough to buck the group and we just took it as an adventure. After reading some of the glowing reviews I've seen about the Falgship I can't help but wonder if they have some rooms hidden around the hotel that I haven't seen. On a scale of 1 - 10 with the average Holiday Inn Express being a 5, I would rank Flagship around a 1 1/2 - 2. Your mileage may vary.

If someone would gut the place and revamp it like the location deserves it could be a primo place.

Well, it's been about 7 years since I stayed there. I would not recommend this place. Unless they did some recent major remodeling??? It was very outdated and musty. Cool concept but really needs improvement. Harbor House was good.

Has anyone ever stayed at this hotel? A friend of ours stayed there and said it was older with a great view. We were wondering what other reviews are out there? Also, what about the Econolodge Galveston? It was really inexpensive and in Galveston? Anyone stayed there either? Any help would be appreciated. Also, what is close by either hotel as far as restaurants. I think our preference would either be Mexican, Seafood, or Chinese? Or Waffle House, or Denny's or Red Lobster, or.... I guess anything is good!!!! At least my husband seems to think so.

I have heard that the Flagship is not what it used to be, I have not stayed there in at least 15 years, it was nice then. It is built on a pier over the Gulf, so all rooms are ocean view.

As far as seafood goes, there are several one's to choose from.

Guido's and Casey's (owned by the same people) they are really, really good (just ate at Guido's last week). Guido's is a little more dressy, the service is fantastic, and the food is wonderful! Casey's is more casual, and the menu offers a more casual flair to it. They are in the same building. With either one you will be getting great food. There is a seafood resturant, I think right around pier 21, maybe Fisherman's Wharf. I am pretty sure this is the restaurant that looks over the bay and is close to the ship Elissa. I have not eaten there in a few years, but I seem to remember that the food was great. You also have Hooter's if you are in the mood for some great buffalo wings, this Hooter's is very family friendly.

Wish I could help more with the Hotels, but have not stayed at any of them recently. The Holiday Inn on the seawall looks like it is nice.

Still hope to get someone to post who has stayed at either the Flagship Hotel or the Econolodge Galveston but the tips on dinner are great. I think we will have to try all of them. We are staying in Galveston the night before the cruise and then staying two days after the cruise to go deep sea fishing. We are really looking forward to it all. Lots of time to try those restaurants.

The Flagship is 35 years old (or older) tied up in court for a Workmans Comp case and a dump. Change your reservations today...

Visit galveston dot com and click on hotels. Many choices in all price levels are there.

Dining along the Seawall ranges from seafood to Tex-Mex, so take your pick. We like Benno's at 12th and Seawall and can be found there many Saturday evenings. Sit outside and watch the water, cars and people.

Galveston is a shorts and casual shirt town with much to see.
