Slot machines

Forgive me if this question has been asked before. We are leaving on the Navigator of the Seas in a couple of weeks. My wife likes the slot machines, and she was wondering if they use quarters, or do you have to use your sea pass? Thanks in advance for any information.

You cannot use the SeaPass card to play in the casino on Royal. You must use cash.

They dispense in tickets instead of cash and you must redeem at cashier assuming the automatic redeemer machine is still not functioning. 2 weeks ago it was only a bill breaker.

My wife's not going to like that. She likes to hear the coins clatter down the chute. She usually does just a little better than break even. As long as she doesn't lose too much, she has fun.

My wife feels the same as her.... The only ship we were on where they still had REAL slot machines where one fed the quarters in and listened to the quarters drop in the tray was the Monarch of the Seas. But, of course that ship was sold. All the ship casinos in all the other ships require bills being fed into the machine. It pays out in little tickets which can be fed into another slot machine or cashed in at the casino office.

They still have the change machine to give you quarters, but they only work on the machine that slides the quarters back and forth until they drop out to the tray. When ever the ship is in rough seas, we always check the tray as we walk by. The ship movement often drops out quarters and we can then feed them back into the machine....

Majesty of the Seas last year in September was 90% quarters (paid in coins with buckets) and a few dollar/penny machines (10%) that had the tickets...

I used to prefer coins, but at modern casinos they are all but impossible to find anymore. Now I've gotten used to the credit slip and it is actually much nicer and cleaner. Remember how dirty your fingers would get from handling coins? So paper is probably another way to help avoid the spread of Noro.

And of course there is a LOT less maintenance for the casino with printouts instead of mechanical coin handling mechanisms. Think back a few years ago how common it was to see the maintenance guys working on machines. You see that a lot less these days.
