jkgourmet Posted September 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted September 24, 2014 We will need to be off the ship by about 9am, but our flight home on American Airlines to Raleigh doesn't depart until 3:30pm. There is a departure on American at 9:30am, but it is sold out (and was way more expensive when i booked the flights). So, getting an earlier flight is not a reasonable expectation. We self depart with a carry on and small daypack each. We are senior citizens, so going for a loooong walk isn't going to happen. We need a place to hang, with food, wine, and room to allow our two carryons. Yes, I KNOW that's the definition of the airport, but at those inflated airport prices, our 7 day cruise could end up cheaper! Wide open to ethnic and local joints, but don't want to stray too far off the trail between port and airport. Any ideas how we can fill up these hours? LUVMYGSDOG Posted September 24, 2014 #3 Share Posted September 24, 2014 I have the same situation - since we are flying Southwest our flight departs from FLL at 3pm. I rented a car through Dollar using their Lock Low and Go promotion. They have a shuttle which will pick you up at POM and we will return the car to FLL. Total with all the fees and taxes they add on is $72.49. We will probably just get some lunch and maybe go to the beach. My DS lived in South Beach for awhile and he wants a pic of the building he lived in so will probably drive by there. Kim
JohninDC Posted September 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted September 24, 2014 Taxi to South Beach (about $15+tip from POM) where there are several of the larger hotels that offer day or spa packages - use the pool, enjoy lunch, etc. Then taxi to MIA for about $32+tip Blue Heron's blog may be able to help you to identify which hotels in SB could work for you; when do you cruise?

Not spa people and really kinda think we will have had our fill of the sun and pool. And frankly, after popping for lunch, the hotel (as well as the previous car rental idea) price out at $100+ for killing about 3-4 hours time. Surely there has got to be sonething less expensive than that!
JohninDC Posted September 24, 2014 #6 Share Posted September 24, 2014 Taxi to Bayside (about $10 from POM), wander, window shop, lunch (there's a Chili's if you are on a budget) and then cab to MIA (about $25+ from Bayside). Miami weather should be nice in early October and the arrival of the "snow-birds" will still be several weeks away.

Even though it's only one carry on each, it's still a pita to drag it everywhere. And no doubt the restaurants and bars and shoos don't appreciate it, either. There is reportedly luggage storage available for a small fee at the luggage store inside the mall.
