Roborab Posted January 21, 2008 #1 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Hi can anybody tell me what clothing is worn at breakfast times, in both, the Britannia and Kings Court? Has anybody stayed in cabin AA12023? On casual nights can men get away with just a shirt and no Jacket? Thanks
supered Posted January 21, 2008 #2 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Hi, Shorts are not allowed in the restaurants at any time. For breakfast casual attire is appropriate, but without shorts. Shorts are allowed in Kings Court. Swimwear is not allowed in Kings Court so you would need to cover up. My wife and I were in 12075 for our Transatlantic Crossing in May 2006 which is on the Starboard side, the same as 12023. However, this was the season before the intoduction of Britannia Club (AA) :( Eddie
supered Posted January 21, 2008 #3 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Also you could probably "get away" without a jacket but is definately part of the dress code. This is a tighening up of the casual dress code since May 2006 and is a good thing I think. On a Transatlantic Crossing you will probably find the dress code being adhered to strictly 99.99% of the time. This may not be the case for a Carribbean itinerary but I can't comment from personal experience for that. I'd say go for it if you can. It all adds to the atmosphere. ESLO Posted January 21, 2008 #7 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Hi can anybody tell me what clothing is worn at breakfast times, in both, the Britannia and Kings Court? On casual nights can men get away with just a shirt and no Jacket? Thanks Dear Roborab, Yes, you can wear on a Caribbean cruise respectful length Shorts or Dockers (longer shorts) to the Britianna Restaurant at Breakfast & Lunches. We have had not problem with this level of dress code on the QM2. Yes, many will head for the open decks once meal time is completed. With respect to Jackets on Elegant Casual nights, they are very much "suggested" especially in the Britianna Restaurant & Club Dining Room. The Evening Attire dress code starts at 6PM onboard the QM2. Even though in the Caribbean it will be warm even on days when the ship will be departing around dinner time, the tone onboard is set by a uniformed look by all passengers following the suggested dress code. Anyone that does not wish to follow the set dress will unfortunately stand out like a "sore thumb" against all the other passenger that wish to do so. I agree, on our last cruise in April 2007, we did see the Dining Room staff suggest passengers to return to their cabins to change into or add the appropiate missing garment (jacket) before entering the Dining Room. Once by accident, even my father did not mean to come to the dining room without a jacket and he was turn back at the door. That is the one special experience we do enjoy while cruising on Cunard ships (Evening Attire), and completely agree with it.

It is very nice that we won't being eating at the different restaurants next to someone in short, shorts or sloppy t shirt.

Wadadli1 Posted January 21, 2008 #12 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Yes you can, lot of people in the QG on our Caribbean cruise had shorts on for both breakfast and lunch We were just on the Mary and so I will add that a lot of people in QG DIDN'T have shorts on for breakfast and lunch, too. Every gentleman wore a jacket every evening. The only thing anyone tried to "get away with" was not losing every cent in the casino!

jeanlyon Posted January 21, 2008 #14 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Of course you can wear shorts at breakfast. Why ever not. A jacket in the evening even on casual nights I would have thought was a must.

southwestie Posted January 21, 2008 #16 Share Posted January 21, 2008 Lets get rid of the concept of "getting away without a jacket" and start looking at it as "dressing properly for dinner". Matthew Dear lord, I am agreeing with you yet again matthew, have you put something in the somerset water???. Please for goodness sake, if your on the QM2, QV or the QE2 you dress for dinner, In Novemebr and I belive now all cruises and croosing have done away with casual and replaced it with elegant casual, and a jacket is worn EVERY night as it should be, I think this applies to the dress code after 6pm in any area of the ship, kings court or brittania or on deck, its tux, suit or jacket, and I like to see a tie worn with a jacket, but thats personal, you can get away with not wearing a tie on EC nights. I belive that nice shorts can be worn in brittania for breakfast on any trip. Dressing is all part of the cunard fun, you take any other ship if you want to dress down, enjoy it. rob

BoscoBreaux Posted January 21, 2008 #19 Share Posted January 21, 2008 There are two ways to view it: what you can get away with and what you'll feel comfortable in given how everyone else is dressed. I doubt you'd be turned away with country-clubesque shorts, but given that no one else is, and a lot of people really frown on it, it may be better just to stick with long pants. Roborab Posted January 22, 2008 Author #20 Share Posted January 22, 2008 Thanks for all your replies. This is our first cruise. We are flying in to New York from the UK to pick up the ship and are obviously restricted by the airline what we can bring with us. Here are my plans for what to wear: Breakfast: Smart linen croped trousers and smart t shirt. Elegant Casual Evening for Hubbie: Blazer and Trousers with shirt and tie. We have all our requirements sorted for the Semi Formal and Formal evenings. Hubbie is going to hire a tux on the ship and I have plenty of beautiful dresses! Kind Regards Tina (roborab);)

Kindlychap Posted January 22, 2008 #24 Share Posted January 22, 2008 Hubbie is going to hire a tux on the ship Please bear in mind that the dress suit hire on QM2 does NOT include shoes. It also includes a ready made bow tie, so you'll have to bring a tie as well. Matthew
