Cheers decision

So, me and DW will be on the Pride on April 20th, we have decided to try Cheers, we use cash not CC, it just seems like a lot to fork over 800.00 all at once just to drink for the week. Our rational is that we are only getting off in Port Canaveral to do Universal Studios (50 year old Potter Fan here) LOL Nassau and Freeport have been done many times, will stay on ship and enjoy empty pools and hot tubs.

Big decision and we hope its the right one.

If you have any cruise history at all it should be a fairly easy decision. What have you spent per day on average for cocktails during past cruises? If the total per day times the length of the cruise equals or exceeds the $800 you will spend for Cheers, then that tidbit, along with the fact that you are staying on the ship, probably makes it a good purchase.

My wife and I are looking forward to knowing exactly what our bar bill will be for the week when we sail this month (we have had some surprises in the past).

Enjoy your cruise!

If you both are cocktail or wine drinkers and consume more than 6ish each per day then it's a break even situation for you. If you are more beer drinkers then I would say no not worth it.

Mainly a wine drinker myself but on a vacation it is easy to do 5-7 glasses throughout the day while relaxing and eating. Anything beyond that would more than make up for it. With Cheers it is also fun to try those drinks you might not try! I now make it a point to have a tiramisu martini as dessert each night! Of course your own habits will dictate the break even point for you.

Of course you can set a daily limit for cost each day and count your drinks and check your sign and sail each hour and keep a little notebook of each drink and the cost and buy the cheaper drink each time and not try the froo froo when you want.......:p

If you are thinking about $800 for 2...$400 apiece....about $58 a day....look up the bar prices and write a budget. :p

You are on vacation after all. :D

P.S. just funning with ya' :)

My H and I have decided to do Cheers on our cruise (in 12 days!!! Happy dance!!!). We are on the Triumph and apparently you have to wait until Day 2 to sign up. Does anyone have info on the sign up process? Is there going to be some crazy line to sign up? What time can you do it? Like if I am up until midnight on Day 1, can I sign up at 12:01 am? :p

LOL, yeah, we are going to try a lot of drinks that we would not ordinarily try. Like coffee, haha, I figure it wont be a stretch to do 7 drinks during the course of a day, especially with being on the ship so long. We are not normally big drinkers, last year in Alaska we did not even think about it because we spent all our time in the ports. Will write a review on if we think it worked out for us.

The Cheers day starts at 6am, so no. It will be available for your sea day morning mimosas, however.

If you figure $8-$9 a drink and say 8-10 drinks a day, that would be $64-$90 a day. On our first cruise, I budgeted $100 each per day for drinks. Mine was either right on or a little high. My wife's was really high, she only had a few drinks a day. You just have to estimate what you will consume.

if you stay on board and drink a lot, then you'll be ok, I think. I have a friend who did it and said that by day four or five, they were feeling obligated to drink their money's worth each day and felt cruddy by the end of the week. I think it depends on your agenda and drink preference. Are coconut monkey heads included? Enjoy it. It will be fun!

My husband and I purchased cheers last year on conquest for a 7day. We wanted to be able to try different drinks and not have to worry about how much we spent on drinks. We added it all up when we got home and for us it was not worth it. Leave next month on the Dream and will not purchase it.

You can order bon voyage, a litre of rum or vodka is 50 to 75 Dollars depenting on brand. and its right in your room. It may be a cheaper alternative. Im not sure how much you can order.

You order right from the carnival web site before u go and its in your room when you get on board.

Just a thought.

You can purchase it as soon as the bar opens on day 2. From the Lobby bar, Casino bar or on the Lido deck. On some ships to avoid congestion at the bars they have started setting up a table in the Lobby to purchase Cheers from.

Do they charge for disembarkation day in regards to the Cheers program?

No, debarkation day is not a cruise day, so there is no charge for it, but you can still get a drink before you debark still on the Cheers program.

Ahh, okay

Wife and I are getting ready for our 5 day Fantasy cruise, and trying to figure out if the Cheers would be worth it.

(49.95 x 15%) 57.44 (p.p.) x 2 (Wife and I) x 3 (days charged) = 344.64

Am I missing something?

Seems reasonable, but I don't drink 15 mixed drinks or beer a day and my wife would be much much less.

Just figure in an reasonable way what you would drink. I don't do 15 drinks a day but 5-7 would be a break even on just wine. If I also want to try something different, say a couple of tiramisu martinis after dinner, the cost could be quite a bit more than Cheers.

I had been going back and forth on this as well. For a 7-day cruise, it's $800 for my wife and I. The alternative we're going to utilize is buying a couple of the 1 liter bottles pre-cruise. We'll probably get one bottle of Sky Vodka for $70 that comes with 4 mixers (probably go cranberry or pineapple) and maybe one of rum (or another of Sky). We would also bring two bottles of wine as allowed.

So, figure for $140, we'd be close to our weekly usage with the two liters. With 4 ports that we plan to explore, we'll buy drinks onshore as well. If we need, we can always order another bottle while on board (3 liters, which would mean we're doing some damage to our livers). It just seems smarter, although I can appreciate wanting to explore a lot of different drinks, too.

I miss-counted number of days.

459.52 for 2 people for 4 days.

I think we'll skip the Cheers program and just get the Endless Bubbles and buy my "adult" drinks on a as needed basis.

That is how I am figuring it too.No way could I drink 15 but with a couple of mimosas, couple of frozen margaritas in the afternoon, glass of wine with dinner and a couple of martinis after dinner plus somewhere in there trying different drinks I may or may not like, plus a couple of sodas-I figure I will break even or close to.

We just got back from the Sunshine and did Cheers! for the second time. I haven't gone through our 6 page statement  yet, but I know for a fact that we saved a ton of money. I love Alchemy and with upgraded liquor each of our drinks there were 9.95. Most others were 8.75 and the least expensive when hubby switched to Kettleone and vodka were 7.50. We hit 15 on 3 of our days and had 8-10 on the other days. We were never "drunk" and remember going to our room each night. I was up early each morning and drank lots of water to hydrate for the next day.

I'll do the calculations by number of drinks at a reasonable average per day and figure out an approximate savings. It was wonderful to be able to have anything we wanted and already have the bar bill paid.

We did this on our last cruise, I do believe that on the six day cruise we paid for a full six days. I wouldn't do it again, we felt pressured to get "our money's worth". We definitely did, and were also able to hand off some of our drinks to our family traveling in another cabin. One night though we drank too much, we each hit the 15 limit in a short time and missed the following sea day due to hangover  We both agreed, we would rather not "feel" like we have to drink so much. We are just not the type to drink all day long, either we drink by the pool and not at night, or not during the day and a few cocktails during dinner.

We did Cheers on our last trip and honestly while it was worth it I wish I would have bought for my husband (he was in one room) and not bought it for me (in the 2nd room). I was SO tired and there were two port days I barely drank back on ship. However the two nights we hung out in the Casino Bar and drank many martinis it was worth it! I was just SO glad our snorkeling trip was at 1pm instead of earlier that next day. LOL. I did feel by the night i had to drink to make up for it. I think next cruise we'll have to revisit this cheers idea.

I am trying to decide about the cheers program.....since my husband died of a massive heart attack in September :( :( our son is going in his place ... we had 2 cruises booked before he died....our platinum cruise was in November ...and then we had this 8 day cruise next month that he was SO excited about. Our son will be 21 in a couple of days after the cruise has ended .... (and I know this is wrong...and will get MANY ugly comments.....if I did get the cheers program for just me...since it is just the 2 of us ... I could basically split the 15 drinks between the two of us? I know I could come NO WHERE near drinking that many...I have maybe 2 specialty drinks a day ... and my husband and i had Bud Light most of the other time...because that is what we do/did at home ...... but how would I figure out if I would come out ahead doing the Cheers program? How much would it be on an 8 night cruise? With just one person?

No help on the Cheers program but please accept my condolences on the loss of your husband. It is great that your son is going with you but I am sure it is bittersweet. I hope you have a wonderful time.
