cruisenovice2 Posted April 12, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 12, 2014 (edited) Finally our cruise to Alaska is almost here. We are sailing Radiance of the Seas Northbound on May 16th and we are getting so excited. First time on a cruise this length and our first to Alaska. However I am not sure how we should get back to Anchorage from Seward, any help or suggestions would be so greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance. I would recommend the jackpot combination of taking one of the wonderful Kenai Fjords tours from Seward and then catching the evening train up to Anchorage for more great scenery, the perfect way to end a northbound Alaska cruise. But it depends on what your plans are once you get to Anchorage. You can't take the evening train if you have an early flight out of Anchorage. mapleleaves Posted April 13, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 13, 2014 (edited) Seward is about 130 miles from Anchorage. You have several transportation options .... cruiseline transfer, Alaska Railroad (very scenic), Park Connection Bus, Seward Bus Line, one-way rental car (Hertz is the only vendor in Seward), a private transfer company. (look in past trip reports to find a vendor) I'd vote for the car so that you can stop along the way and enjoy the ride plus travel at YOUR pace. It's a scenic trip with many places of interest, particularly along the Turnagain Arm, just south of Anchorage. With a car you could stop at the Wildlife Conservation Center, pan for gold, visit Exit Glacier just outside Seward, visit Portage Lake/Glacier, ride the tram at Alyeska Resort, etc. Suggested stopping points in this link: http://www.alaska.org/guide/turnagain-arm-drive Edited April 13, 2014 by mapleleaves
Ashland Posted April 13, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 13, 2014 That depends on your plans if you have a flight on cruise end day... A couple of additional options. We have taken the RCI cruisetrain option ($105.00pp)...but your flights can be no earlier than 2:30pm..It's a 126 mile amazing narrated train trip which leaves from right next to where Radiance docks in Seward at 7:30am and arrives right to the doors of ANC at 11:30am. and can only be booked directly with RCI (just a note this books quickly and always a good idea to pre-book asap don't wait until you board as they need your flight info). This trip for us on May 3oth due to an earlier flight time we are using www.alaskacruisetransfer.com ($48.00pp) a private company booked online directly.
