ksmaxey Posted June 24, 2017 #1 Share Posted June 24, 2017 My wife and I are considering a Oct 1st cruise from Vancouver to Hawaii and back and this has led to several questions. The cruise has way more sea days than any previous cruise we have done. Have you done this cruise? What will the seas be like in October in the Pacific? Will it be rough? Any other suggestions or comments are welcome. Thank you Kevin

Since you are leaving from Vancouver you have an extra sea day than if you did it r/t San Diego, we enjoy the sea days. To the best of my recollection the seas were very calm like our r/t San Diego in 2013. It's all by chance as we have read where others had some nasty seas. kira5 Posted June 24, 2017 #3 Share Posted June 24, 2017 We're also considering this cruise but waiting for the price to drop (or exchange rate to even out a bit!). There's a roll call set up for this.
Splinter Posted June 24, 2017 #4 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Have done the San Diego/RT/Hawaii trip twice on HAL, and twice the LA/RT/Hawaii trip on Princess. The Pacific is a fickle ocean. Sometimes it can be like a lake, but if you have the effects of a Pacific hurricane coming from the south you can also get some high seas and wind. Frankly, I enjoy a little "weather" but it's not for everyone. One thing to keep in mind is that you will see more humpback whales in Hawaii between November-March, and not nearly as much in October either. SilvertoGold Posted June 24, 2017 #5 Share Posted June 24, 2017 Having sailed this itinerary several times, I can say the norm is cool and somewhat rough (10 foot seas, wind) for the first three days, then warm and smooth. Nevertheless, weather is dependent on many factors and you need to understand it could be as smooth as silk or very rough, for part or all of the way there and back. This is a cruise for people who can go with the flow, because the weather and possible missed ports can and do happen.
