Pride of America in Hilo today

We went into town today and said Aloha to the Pride of America. Most ships at the Hilo pier have the bow facing inland, but they parked the POAm facing out...I'm sure so that the stars and stripes on the hull could be seen by all of Hilo. I took this pic...wish it had been a sunnier day...but, hey, it wasn't raining!!

Mahalo for the pix Kapoho2. She's due in Maui on Wednesday, and we plan to greet her on the breakwall (if they let us) with our big U.S. flag (& camera). Will post pix sometime Wednesday.

What time did you take that? It was pouring in Hilo afternoon! We arrived about 1 to quite a bit of rain. But we could see her. And we could see her from the airport and plane as well....very pretty.

Probably took the pic around noon. I was in Hilo for a couple of hours around mid-day...and kept running errands and waiting for the sun to come out for a better picture as there were patches of blue in the sky. The sun never really came out, but it never rained and was hot and humid. Rain must have started as I was heading back home. I was thinking how nice it was that the cruise passengers were not getting a rainy day...just a cloudy one...guess I was wrong!! Just saw the ship sail by this evening. We live about 30 miles south of Hilo. Sometimes the ships are in so close we feel like we could swim out to them, but the POAm was very far from the shore. Looked pretty though....all lit up in the distance.

What a nice picture of the ship! Now Pride of America can do what she was meant to do .... show people the islands of Hawai'i :)

You mentioned it was a cloudy dismal day, hoping that's the reason the water looks so dark and gloomy in the picture. Doesn't look very "tropical blue". Looks more like the Hudson River :(
