How did you bring the water on board so that it made it to your cabin? I was thinking of a luggage tag.

Does anyone know if there is somewhere near the pier to buy water and soda so that you don't have to take it on the plane? We are using NCL air and their transfer... so it would have to be close.

MaryAnne, there would be nothing near the port. When you see the port you will understand. It you really don't want to carry that much on the plane, use a small suitcase, but really, unless you have a medical problem a 6 pack is all you need. The water on the ship is very good. We usually bring 2 or 4 bottles of water on board, maybe a 6 pack and just keep filling them in our cabins. NMnita

Depending on how you're getting to the port, there is a Walgreen's in La Porte that carries a small selection of grocery type items, including bottled water and soda. It's only about 3 or 4 blocks from the pier. We stopped there before both our cruises on the Sea to pick up those last minute items that we didn't want to fly with.

Well, embarkation was a breeze and my case of water along with the full bar has made it safe and sound to my room.

Really glad the water made it!

Well, time for the life boat fiasco...

If you think this is expensive - wait until you see the increased prices for soda, beer, wine, and alcohol.:eek::eek:

Before we sailed on the Sun, I read all the posts about bringing water on board. I didn't want to be bothered with any more luggage than I absolutely needed so we did not bring water, coffee mugs, bungee cords, etc.

What I found was the water was certainly drinkable (we drink bottled water at home and I can tell a difference now when I drink tap water). The water was fine.

The big problem for me was that the garden cafe was frequently either out of glasses or only had dixie cup size. Looking back I should have kept the empty water bottles that I threw away at the airport for refilling, or brought water bottles or insulated cups.

I was too cheap to buy a mug for $6.95 on board. ;) They also had an insulated sleeve with a shoulder strap for sale for $8.50 plus the $3.50 for the liter bottle of water.

If the water is acceptable on the ship, why not just buy one bottle of the water offered in the room, and continue to fill it up for the entire cruise???

Hide it from your room steward, or he will most likely toss it out while cleaning your cabin. (Not intentionally; just doing his job). :)

Hmmm. Thought this thread had diappeared, but it seems not. Totally unprepared for this.

I just stuck two luggage tags on the water and checked it as is with my luggage with the porter. No problemo.

My Black label ordered through NCL was finally delivered Monday - guess something about Tejas laws...

Ship is is pretty good shape - food is pretty darn good.

We even stopped off Cozumel today to deliver some supplies - if I had known that would have gladly donated the missed port refund to bring some more supplies.

Tomorrow is Belize, then Roatan, then ???

More later...

I saw nothing near the pier - a friend drove me and we stopped by a liquor store on the way, first.

MaryAnn261 - as a previous poster stated, there is nothing at the pier. There is the Walgreens that was mentioned and also a full grocery store in La Porte, but the NCL transfer won't go there, so unless you found somebody with a car to drive you there and back, you'll need to bring it with you.

JUST SAY NO TO HIJACKED THREADS!!!

Why smuggle bottle water?

1) For the satisfaction

2) Cause you can bring your favorite brand

3) Cause you aren’t at the liberty of the water pirates.

Yes, the water tastes ok – no sure what it might taste like after a day in the sun in a bottle. Assuming it is reverse osmosis, that would indeed be like many bottle waters are purified. In general, I would think they would distill the water from salt water and then purify, but whatever.

Some of raw notes…

Sunday Sept 6

Embarkation was a breeze – directions off NCL website were slightly in error. Follow signs that say “CRUISE”

Arrived at port around 11:55am was on the ship by noon. Registered aboard ship and was in cabin by 12:15pm

Dinner:

Seven Seas – Shrimp Cocktail, French Onion Soup, Prime Rib, Creme Brulet

Handed $20 to room stewards.

Liquor I had ordered was a no show.

Late night food a joke – waiting 45 minures – 1hr for burgers, mini-pizza, etc. Wait staff seemed really slammed – would forget who ordered what and food would sit cooling off for a while while they looked for owner.

Mon Sept 7 – Sea Day

Liquor showed up.

Lunch – Fish, Turkey focaccia, cheeses, lyonaisse potatoes

Snack – tapas – salami, fried jalapeno, something else

Dinner – Seven Seas – Escargot, Spinach Salad, Lobster, Chocolate Soufflé

Somehow decided we were arriving in Belize early, so many tours start time adjusted.

Catamaran & Barrier Reef snorkel sold out by Monday – waited listed also bought shark ray alley ticket. Now need to turn in Shark Ray Alley. Also received notification about Jungle River Tubing and Mayan ruins which I did not sign up form. Hmmm

Light bathroom flickering, maintenance came quickly at 10pmish and changed. Follow up call the next day to make sure everything was ok.

No ice left, 1 set of towels, plate moved but left.

Had asked for bathrobe was told they would look into, but only for suites really – no bathrobe

Mon night water was a little rocky, but nothing wild. Biz card wedged into the door of the safe kept it from rattling.

Tues Sept 8

Lunch – fried fish, fried potatoes, hamburger.

Dinner – Tapas – chicken wings (really spicy and good), bacon and onion mini-quiche (several – when they are gone they are gone), assorted olives (one with chili or chili oil – yum), capers, chopped peppers, gherkins, jalapeno poppers, salami rounds, roasted garlic (yum), brie, crusty French bread. - DELISH

Turned into Irish Pub night sing along.

Wed Sept 9

Belize – Barrier Reef snorkeling – second shift – think I will pass on next time. Snorkeling was ok – some interesting coral and the water was clear. A number of fishes but not herds. After stopped at Bannister Caye

Surprise –bathrobe showed up tonight – had no shekels on me. Will have to catch up with them later.

Think it may be another tapas kind of night!

NCL closed the bars, shops and casino while we stopped briefly in Cozumel:

Thought for a second we were going to use a HAL ship as a tender in Belize:

To Zydecccruiser, Thanks for taking the time to post photos and for letting us know what food was available - and where - on the first few nights. We will definately try tapas(?) sometime during our week...we leave on 12/4.

Thanks again..enjoy the rest of your cruise. Sounds like fun so far.
