  1. I just ignore the message and wait to talk to a live agent. The hold time the past few weeks when I have called has been at most 2 or 3 minutes, usually less. The agent never mentions anything about it being over 60 days and they have been happy to help. I have booked flights for a late March early April, 2023 cruise already. just call back and talk to an agent.
  2. No, you can still deal directly with The Air Plus department even when you book your cruise through a travel agent. I have done it for years, and as recently as last week. I suppose if you prefer you could have your TA do it for you but it’s easier for me to find the flights I want, call VAP and have them book it.
  3. I did hear back from TellUs. The voucher cannot be used to book anything for another passenger. Flights have now been ticketed so cannot be upgraded (seats were not available anyway). She was able to remove a $200 referral credit voucher that had been applied to this cruise after I applied the FCC voucher and it will be available for a future booking, so that helped a little. We will probably just book some more optional excursions unless I can come up with something better.
  4. We have had a GTY twice on VO. DV6 both times. Once they had assigned a cabin 2 or 3 days after we booked and the other time room was assigned at check in. Both times they were DV4’s mid ship. Both were totally fine. I would do a GTY anytime if needed.
  5. The voucher was transferable but it must be used by one person on a single cruise. I can’t use part and transfer the remainder to another person or even apply the remainder to another cruise.
  6. Apparently Viking could only book economy or business on that flight. I was wanting premium economy and they can’t book that on their contract. business seats were not available on the long haul flight… those could potentially open up and I will watch but they will be ticketing the flights before long and then we won’t be able to upgrade.
  7. Cruise is sold out so no option to upgrade. 😢
  8. We paid for an upcoming cruise with a voucher ( from a canceled cruise during COVID). I know the full value of the voucher must be used before we board or it is forfeited. I had planned to use the remainder to upgrade our airfare however that was only available for our outbound flights so there was quite a bit of credit left over. I have prepaid gratuities and booked all the optional excursions we wanted and there is still some left. My DD and SIL are cruising with us in a different cabin. Does anyone know if Viking will let me use the remaining credit to book optional excursions for them? any other suggestions for using the remaining credit? (Not really interested in SSBP)?
  9. Booked for this cruise in November. I know originally I saw somewhere the hotel Viking uses in Lisbon, but I can’t find it anywhere. Does anyone know? Also we are doing the extension to Santiago de Compostela. Anyone know which hotel there? Thanks.
  10. Personally I found the Vienna included tour pretty sad on our June Romantic Danube cruise. It might just have been the luck of the draw, but our guide was weak, we spent a lot of time on the bus sitting in traffic, and didn’t see much on the walking portion. Budapest was better. Provided a decent overview of both sides of the river. It covered a lot of territory but some was just drive by. I had done Vienna and Budapest with Avalon a few years ago and their included tours in both cities were far superior. Honestly I would skip the Vienna included tour altogether and just visit things you want to include on your own. You have 2 full days there and some of the optional excursions were quite good, but the included one was a bust IMHO. In Budapest I’d probably do the included in the am and do my own thing in the afternoon.
  11. I had to call. Never could get it to even show me available options on MVJ. Even though I was more than 60 days out the agent was happy to help. Got me set up on the desired flights with less than a minute wait to speak with an agent. Took a few minutes on the phone with the agent because he had to clear it with the supervisor to have the flights ticketed now so I could upgrade our seats with miles. But it was taken care of.
  12. Clay, I think we use the same TA and they have pretty good referral credits….if the majority of your group have not used them before that could be a pretty substantial credit that could be applied to your trip as well. Annette could run the numbers for you.
  13. One more suggestion Orchid 2010. If you and/or your mom feel up to it (and weather permitting) they offer a welcome walk in Regensburg the afternoon that you board. I thought it was a delightful introduction to the town and a very gentle walk. It felt good to get some fresh air and move around a bit….kind of helped me get my second wind. And Regensburg is such a delightful town.
  14. We did this cruise last month. We waited about 20-30 minutes from the time we met the Viking Rep in the arrivals hall until we got on the bus for the Viking transfer to the ship. Although it could be longer if another flight is late. It is a fairly long drive to Regensburg (if I remember correctly it was about 80 minutes from airport to ship). Honestly I would not give up the included transfer to fly in a day early…you would have the hassle (and expense) of getting to a hotel, waiting for a room to be available and then getting to Regensburg the next day. Once you get to the ship there will be food and a comfortable lounge to rest until your cabin is ready. my best tip for recovering from east bound jet lag is to stay up as long as possible on arrival day, then head for bed asap after dinner and get a good 10+ hours of sleep. Then by the next morning you feel pretty good….but I don’t schedule any big optional excursions the first full day of the cruise.
  15. So what did Viking do? Did your trip continue via bus? did they leave you sitting on the dock? Move you to another ship? Send you home early? Details please.
  16. Stupid question here… we have used Air Plus in the past and have it for an upcoming cruise, but for the life of me I can’t remember where I got the phone number to contact them… can some kind soul point me in the right direction? thanks!
  17. The Viking dress code debate is NOTHING compared to the formal night attire “discussion” on the HAL board. 😳. It went past snarky years ago…and it’s looking at the back side of vicious. I, like many others have never understood why anyone would waste energy worrying about what someone else is wearing. I don’t expend much energy worrying about what I am going to wear, I’m sure not investing myself in what you choose to put on. I do understand why people new to a cruise line ask for help deciding what to bring or how a dress code is interpreted. My personal favorite is Vikings “Elegant Casual” attire. I haven’t looked elegant in anything in 40 years….kind of conjures up a mental image of the Maitre D pulling me aside to discreetly say “I am sorry madam, but the dress code requires ELEGANT casual tonight and you appear a bit frumpy. Would you mind dining elsewhere?” 😂😂😂😂
  18. I would recommend the Schoenbrunn Palace tour in Vienna. The palace easily rivals Versailles. Wish we had more time there. Friends did the Vienna Boys Choir tour and raved about it if that is of interest to you.
  19. I wold make a suggestion about cabin types…. The least expensive cabins are on the lowest deck. The good news about these cabins is the windows are up high on the wall, have a very deep window ledge and can easily be left covered with curtains all the time so you don’t have to look out. The bad news about these cabins is if you do look out the window you will realize that your nose is about 12 inches above the water line and your floor is below the water line. That might creep you out. If you book a cabin on a higher deck there will be floor to ceiling windows across the entire length of your room, which means you will be looking at the water. The good news is you will be farther above the water line which might make you feel better. Choice is yours. My daughter that struggles on ocean cruises loved river cruises since there were no waves and she could always see land.
  20. If you want to lock in the Viking air price you can add it now and then if you decide you can do better on your own once the airlines post their schedule you can drop it. As long as the flights have not been ticketed you do not have to pay for them. If you decide to use Viking Air you can always add the Air Plus feature later after flight schedules are posted. if you are not comfortable traveling internationally I would recommend letting Viking handle your air and transfers. When you look at pricing air on your own be sure to include the cost of transfers and checked bag fees. I do not think you can do Viking Air for one way travel. I think it’s both ways or not at all, but you will need to verify that with your TA.
  21. Letters were delivered to Danube passengers today…. No more mandatory testing fleet wide on Viking.
  22. We have never flown through MAD before, but it looks like a mess to me…we will be arriving from Vigo, Spain (Air Europa) at Terminal 2, connecting to a Delta flight that departs from Terminal 1. The connection time is 70 minutes. In a lot of airports that wouldn’t be an issue but it looks like we will have to leave and then reclear security and maybe passport control. Any advice welcome.
