  1. They should have policed the policies..  with that said..  smoking will never be banned from a casino, as long as smoking is legal.  I am a retired gaming professional, started on a Carnival ship and spent 25 plus years more in Vegas Casinos..  big gamblers..  majority smoke.  Carnival was starting as a gambling line..  casino is big big big $$$$….  You actually said it yourself, they can go with an hour of no smoking..  the gamblers that get these Premier/ultra cruises ..  don’t spend an hour ..  they spend most waking hours in the casino.  I don’t smoke, but I do gamble and earn all my cruises free.  I’m in there most of the time it’s open.  Casinos are never going to give  up the $$$ from these gamblers, and you don’t want them to..  keeps cruising affordable.   I thought as the population aged.. smoking wouldn’t be that critical..  but nope, not true.  Every casino in Las Vegas that has gone non-smoking has failed.  As long as there is a competitor that lets them smoke.. not going to work. I was on the Breeze in July and they had a separate casino for non smokers, hardly anyone in there the couple times I checked it out, but it was new then.  Half the casino is also non smoking…. I never had any trouble finding a seat on that side..  some may argue this point, but they are not who Carnival Casino is catering to.  If smoking goes…. Prices will jack up real quick.  Just the facts

  2. Sooo enjoying this!!!  Long Beach is the City of my birth…. And most of my family.  Although I spent most of my childhood out in Orange County (land of the mouse!) I moved back to the LB for collage and graduated from CSULB…. Lived in this area for most of my early 20s…. Especially sweet as I was a tour guide on the Queen Mary for most of my college years!  (the Queen is not doing so well right now😢). After graduating…. I didn’t know what to do ..  so I was hired as a Casino dealer on Carnivals brand new first build ship..  The Tropicale!!  Really old home week for me!  The dome was built while I was  there and housed Howard Hughes “Spruce Goose” for a short time (my Dad was a 40 year engineer for Hughes Aircraft and wrote a book about Hughes).  Small small world.  Most importantly I will be boarding the Panorama in 84 days…. Complete walk down memory lane !  Although Las Vegas has been home for the past 30 years…. Can’t wait to go back to my old stomping grounds in January!!

I worked in the gift shop on the Carnivale back in 1980, then managed the shops on the Mardi Gras and Festivale.  It was by far the most fun I've ever had in a work place.  Back then girls were only allowed to work in the gift shop or the casino, officers were encouraged to "mingle" with female passengers, and we were allowed access to the club (back then called the Disco) but were not allowed on the dance floor.

Things have certainly changed - my daughter worked one contract on the Glory a few years back as part of the entertainment staff.  When I cruised 2 weeks after she joined, we had to get written permission from security for her to even be near my cabin.  No more fraternizing - but then again male crew have lots of female crew to "mingle" with.

I was a dealer in the casino on the Tropicale when she was brand new, 1983-1985.  You are so right.. same, women only in Casino, gift shop, spa and entertainers.  Americans only allowed in same.  Could sit in Disco but not dance.  A tradition on your last night if resigning could dance…. Lol.  Officers were encouraged to mingle with female passengers.. and they did.  Guests could come onboard in home port (Long Beach for me), I’m from there so my friends and family came all the time to visit.  Big difference in way were “tracked”… we were not at all.  No one new where we were on port days.  We used to get off ship in Puerto Vallarta (day off Casino was completely closed) and fly to Mazatlan for $30, get a hotel and go to their discos all night long and meet the ship there the next afternoon..  no one knew nor cared.  We never even considered what would happen if the ship missed the port.. lol.  Could never do that now for sure.  Best time of my life.. left for a guy..  lol.  Wished I would have stayed

  4. Just FYI...  if your on the Breeze, last week the WiFi was horrible!  Didn’t work 2 of the days at all.  I went to the “fun hub” and asked the girls there (crew), they said it was barely working and they are not even buying it right now (I guess crew can buy it daily)..  so there’s that

  5. I was on the same sailing as you. I pretty much agree with everything you said.  The ship looks pretty rough... rust everywhere, peeling paint, loose tiles, etc.

Buffet:  the food was not as good as usual, very little variety..  cold.  The buffet floor is extremely slippery at all times.
pretty much everything else the same as usual.
I will never go out of Galveston again.  A very hard and expensive port to get to.  Yes we did sit on Carnival shuttle for an extra hour just in front of the ships (Vista was boarding as well), not Carnivals fault but very poor traffic planning.
The best thing .. the crew.  Outstanding, bent over backwards in every way.  Really trying hard.  Love Carnival, will be back in a few months... but not Galveston.

And yes masks were not enforced in ANY way...  they will be sorry when those kids start spreading Covid around and the media gets ahold of this..  this could be their demise if they Don’t stop this.

  6. In the early 80s I was a crew member onboard the Carnival Tropicale.  I was local to the San Pedro area (San Pedro back then), every Sunday my friends and family would come onboard to visit me, until the all ashore call..

I have lived in Vegas for 30 years, nearly every large casino/hotel has facial recognition.. Most until recently were scanning casino floor for elevated temperatures..

  7. Mine for 7/24 (Breeze) has only two other people 30 days out.  Very hard to let myself get excited after 7 cancelled.  Also, there are no slot pulls, tournaments and most likely no meet and greets allowed.  Not much reason to have a roll call really. Hard to plan private excursions or anything really.  Just going to be ecstatic if it actually sails and go from there!
