  1. Good morning. Finally warming up here today. That means planting my planter and first visit to my compost bin in 9 months. Today's dish looks wonderful. DF brought home a layered enchilada dish made with rotisserie chicken from Costco. $24 yikes but we had two huge dinners out of it. Prayers for all on Roy's care list. So much killing in the US we aren't hearing much about Ukraine. Prayers for the families in Uvalde and Buffalo. Prayers for the people of Ukraine. ๐Ÿ™
  2. With my connection issues I always try to check in once a day on the Daily. I am grateful for this group. My friend is going on a Alaska cruise on June 8 and was told only one ship was sailing up there. Thanks to the Daily I could name every one. I truly appreciate all the work that @richwmn does to glue this together and for everyone else's contributions. 55 degrees here and bugs galore. I wear netting which is hot so this is a perfect day for gardening. Some sun would be nice for our solar panels. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and for the families of the lost in Uvalde and for the people of Ukraine. Have a lovely Memorial Day weekend.
  3. Good Friday morning. No need for sunscreen yet here. Currently 48 degrees. Perhaps some sun for our solar system today. Everything is working but my new batteries for the system are sitting on a shelf in Marquette. No dock in yet so boat is sitting wrapped in the yard. Wifi in truck working great. A reliable phone call is 1/2 mile away. Fishing is relayed as poor so we can wait on the boat in the water. Happy Memorial Day as we recognize those who fought for our freedom.โœ๏ธ Prayers for all on Roy's care list. ๐Ÿ™ My view this morning.
  4. @StLouisCruisers bon voyage. Enjoy your vacation and time at sea. ๐Ÿพ
  5. We are at our cabin. Last week's opening was smooth. This week we arrived to no electricity. A short caused an over current. We know what is probably causing it. Texted our solar guy and we got it running again. Today no water. Not enough electricity to run the well but we have power. Going through our check lists to get it going again including charging the system with the generator. We have internet. I signed up with GMs wifi for the summer but the truck needs to be on. Minor problems compared to what is going on in our world. Prayers for the families of the children and teachers lost and for the people of Ukraine.
  6. Happy Monday and Happy Victoria Day. We are on our way north. Spending a nice part way trip to Petoskey Michigan. View from out room in Petoskey.
  7. Good Sunday morning. A bad tornado went through a town we pass through every time we go to and from the cabin and it hit a commercial area. Sadly 2 people were killed. We head north tomorrow for the summer so I am early and have a long day of gardening and house cleaning so we have a decent place when we return sometime in September. Prayers for all on Roy's care list, the people of Ukraine, Buffalo and Gaylord MI. A pic of where we are heading to. Hopefully I won't be dark all summer.
  8. Good morning. I missed again yesterday. DF left his pills at the cabin and he just has 2 days in his pill pod. Therefore our leisurely preparations for departure got pinched. Mail forwarding, last mani and pedi for the summer, groceries, hauled 4 cases of wine up from the cellar and out to the garage. I collapsed in bed at 6:30 and slept 12 hours. Less stressful today, housecleaning while watching the Preakness Stake races. Have a great trip Roy! ๐Ÿพโ›ด๏ธ Prayers for all on Roy's care list and those who need it. ๐Ÿ™ Past cat TV at my house. My Tiny and Lydia RIP.
  9. Hello everyone. I am trying to get caught up. We had no phone therefore no hotspot inside our cabin. The phone worked well enough outdoors where I found one spot where I had a signal so I could call Direct TV to reset our receiver. At least the TV worked. I will have to sign up for the internet that GM sells so we have wifi and use the phone outdoors. DF's phone had some 5G service last year, this year no service. On top of that while we were loading and unloading 2 lawn tractors in the woods he lost his phone and we couldn't find it. The cabin opening went smoothly other than the 1000 or so dead flies that are an every year event. I have decided insect bombs inside before we leave are useless. The 5 mile logging road we take to the cabin was the driest and smoothest ever thanks to logging along it last fall. We had a brisk wind to unload the truck so no black flies. We are back home, resting up from the drive and cabin opening and will head up next week. Here are some pics from our drive from MI Lower Peninsula to the Upper, US 2 along Lake Michigan and Spring Beauties covering the forest floor.
  10. Good Sunday morning. Another early morning for us. Our plant sale went well and I think we took in about $600. The rest will sell at the Farmer's Market next Saturday. We are finishing loading the truck and we will be heading north to our cabin for a couple of days. I will be missing for a few days unless the phone signal is strong enough to run my hotspot or simply my phone. Have a beautiful Sunday. Prayers for the people killed and injured in the callous shooting in Buffalo and for all on Roy's care list and for the people of Ukraine. ๐Ÿ™
  11. Happy Friday! Very early rise and shine for me to start hauling plants to the front of the garage. I think the frogs are jumping behind my house I hear them croaking all the time. A great quote from JL and so true for these days. I will wait for the meal, the drink sounds tasty. Today's wine is a dandy. It will not be too cheap I am sure. I have never been to Denmark. Prayers for all on Roy's care list, the remaining souls in Mariupol and all the people in Easter Europe affected by Putin's war. ๐Ÿ™
  12. Good morning, another hot, humid day in SW MI. I went out to feed the birds and found that our roving raccoons had dug up several of my plants I have ready for our plant sale and a fragile Palm that I divided. All will be fine except I am worried about the Palm. Fatigue syndrome is probably a result of many things and part of long Covid. International nurses day is so important, the crises keep on coming. Covid is not licked and the Russian attack on Ukraine is causing so many injuries. I like to hear a limerick. The quote showed how vulnerable MM was. Thanks @dfish for the recipes, they look good. I hope you can get some relief not just more tests. The drink looks tasty and the wine looks good, Provence is an area with good value wines. Have not been to Morocco. @rafinmdYou will make things so much easier for your family to pre-plan. I was surprised that my late DH came home one afternoon and said he had been to the local funeral home to prepay and set up some things for his final arrangements. Sadly we had to use them earlier than we had ever expected but his brother (the officiant) and I were able to get everything set up. The hardest part was finding a place for the after service meal. Too many people for our home so it was the local fire hall. I need to take a lesson from that and do so myself. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and for the people in Ukraine and those that support them. Today is more plant sale preparation and staying indoors for the rest of the day to start preparing for our first trip to our cabin next week. Have a nice day!
  13. Good morning! An interesting group of days. I practice daily fasting so I usually eat from noon and full stop at 6 pm. That means when I can eat I can eat what I want. School nurses are a rare breed these days. I don't know how school systems handled all the testing and screening for Covid. My mother was a secretary who also welcomed people to the building so she had some receptionist duties also. She studied for and took that job so she could earn money for us to have an in ground pool. I will pass on the dish. The drink kind of reminds me of something we had on the NS this winter. I recall it was called Double O ______. Can't remember the name but the bartenders made some dandies. The wine is especially interesting because if all goes to plan we will be in Punte del Este Uruguay so I am looking for local wines and wineries. It looks like quite the operation. I hope it isn't too far from the port. Have never been to Falmouth. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and for the remaining souls holding on in Mariupol. Prayers for all involved in this conflict. ๐Ÿ™ Puerta Caldera, Costa Rice HA Shorex to Pura Vida Gardens
  14. Good morning, another beautiful, warm sunny day on tap. I will be working with all the plants I have on the back patio to price them for our garden club's sale on my driveway on Saturday. I just had company so all rooms are really spiffy, just a bit of dusting in order now. My DSIL runs a small business, it is turning into a lot of headaches with competition from Amazon and getting good employees. I usually trust my intuition, I think with all of us it goes on without us even recognizing it. Quote from Hemingway was interesting, Anyone having seen the PBS documentary on him could see that writing was never easy for him. Will pass on the carb load sandwich, drink sounds like a winner and the Pinot Noir sounds like a good one. I look forward to everyone's pics of Dubai. I always mark my calendar for the Dubai World Cup horse races, last Saturday in March. @kazu I am happy to see you back. I hope you get some time of peace and reflection and memories of your wonderful times with Jose'. @grapau27 Thanks for your pics from your Dubai visit. I'll share a cute little burro from Corinto, Nicaragua. Have a nice day!
  15. Good Monday morning. I need to cut the tags off my Ruggable rugs, my mattress can wait. Only 2 people in the house pretty easy to keep socks straight. I had my check up last week. The wonderful quote is so true. @dfishThanks for coming up with a recipe with bacon. I would enjoy that one. Will pass on the drink and I prefer US Pinot Noir. I am looking forward to everyone's photos of Abu Dhabi. Prayers for all on Roy's care list. Prayers for Jacqui and all that she is going through. ๐Ÿ™ When I lost my husband I didn't go on Facebook for a year but the Daily is more affirming than everyone else's fun and happy photos. I enjoyed everyone's photos of their Moms. I will share one. Yesterday was full on gardening since we had good weather for once. Thanksgiving 1988.
  16. Good Sunday morning. Happy Mother's Day to all mother's and to our mothers in Heaven. With today's quote I'll take the company in Heaven anyday. My Mom's there. The Red Cross/Red Crescent have been very busy in Ukraine and in the refugee countries. Today Russia bombed a school shelter. VE Day - victory over Hitler's tyranny. Now we need victory over Putin's tyranny. I will share some Iris picks, one of my favorite flowers. @dfish Thanks for the recipes, a sure winner for me with a well done egg on top. Thanks for the photo with you and your mother. I thought the drink would be a winner but with only 1/2 part Laphroaig I will take it straight. I like Pinot Grigio and I have been to Lisbon on the Konigsdam in September 2018. I shared a few when @grapau27 was there a month or two ago. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and for the release of all still in the steel plant in Mariupol. Prayers for Jacqui and Ann. It was an interesting KY racing this weekend. 86 year old D. Wayne Lucas trained the filly who won the KY Oaks, then had a hand in the Derby. If he hadn't scratched his runner in the Derby the winner Rich Strike never would have gotten in. So happy the little guys got to win the big race.
  17. Good morning! We have a sunny day here and am looking forward to working outside in bursts in between watching the KY Derby Day races. Birth mothers had to make a hard decision but they gave joy to others. I have a Rosemary plant right now and going to plant some others when we go to the cabin. I already got my Dahlias and tomato plants. Weird quote from MM. The pancakes look tasty especially the apple filled ones. Looking forward to the drink though Moscato is too sweet for me. I am looking forward to seeing pictures of Tallin. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and for the souls in Mariupol. ๐Ÿ™ Continued prayers for Jacqui and for the people in Ukraine and all refugees. Welcome to @HELENPSL.
  18. I tried to find a simple explanation of the process that labs use to make monoclonal antibodies that are the bedrock of RA treatment and now many other diseases such as psoriasis and Crohn's disease. I couldn't find a simple explanation but the illustration from Wikipedia shows how complicated the process is. It isn't like mixing large batch chemicals like our older drugs, it is very complicated. Even though they are (FDA) approving bio-similars after the drugs lose patent protection they sometimes aren't as good. A good friend has Crohn's and he had to do a 9 month trial of a biosimilar of Remicade all the while he had to keep taking very high doses of prednisone. Once he failed on the biosimilar he was put on the brand name Remicade and is almost in remission now. I thought that the melanoma cell was specific to treating that cancer but it seems it is used in formulating all monoclonal antibody drugs.
  19. Happy Friday everyone! I am getting caught up after dropping my friend from Baltimore off at the Grand Rapids airport. We had a great visit and had a decent day to go to Holland, MI to look at the tulips prior to the Tulip Time Festival that starts today. Lots of getting caught up and a lot of wine consumed. Beverages for me are coffee, iced tea and wine sometimes with a bit of whiskey thrown in. Nurses are the backbone of patient care so it is great that they have another day of recognition. I do talk to myself a bit. Salt Cod is a no, the drink looks really good and I love a good Bordeaux wine. I have never been to China so thank you @StLouisCruisersfor sharing those from your trip. Another smoggy Chinese town, I will definitely pass in the future. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and for @kazu๐Ÿ™Prayers for the souls in Mariupol and that they can all get out. I missed bird day a few days ago so I will share a few from this week. The swans in our lake had 7 cygnets. Four gray and 3 white. In the end they are all white when full grown . The other a Rose Breasted Grosbeak male eating at our jelly feeder. Have a lovely day!
  20. Good afternoon. Interesting days, I love Tuna but it is hard to get good tuna in the midwest so I have an occasional tuna salad sandwich. I have had squamous cell cancer on my face once and had to get Mohs surgery. All went well and the scar is not noticeable. I moved back to my home area when my late DH passed away. It is nice to have my siblings close and see them much more often. The meal doesn't look like something for me and also the Negroni. Have no idea about the vino and have not been to Malaysia. Prayers for all on Roy's care list, comfort for Jacqui and for the people involved in the European war. We have excitement at the house today. The nesting pair of swans right behind us had probably 2 cygnets. They blend in so well with their parents. I will share a pic from a few years ago. Hopefully I can get more soon. I may be absent for a few days I have a house guest through Friday and doing a library talk tomorrow evening.
  21. @kazu Jacqui, I am so sorry you lost Jose'. Deepest sympathy and prayers for you in your time of sorrow. Thank you for sharing the photos of happy memories of you both last month. ๐Ÿ˜ข๐Ÿ™
  22. Mine disappeared also. Prayers for all on Roy's care list, the remaining soldiers in Maiupol and Jose' and Jacqui. Never have been to Japan. Looked forward to the photos. I shared this one of Huelva, Spain. Konigsdam September 2018. We didn't go ashore after 3 shore excusions and long walks in Leixos, Lisbon and A Coruna.
  23. @summer slopeThanks! Another cocktail I got my camera out to take a picture of the recipe.
  24. @rsldonk Enjoy your cruise! โ›ด๏ธ๐Ÿพ
  25. Hello, I am late today. I am having a houseguest starting on Monday and I am trying to get her quarters all ready and I have been procrastinating. It is about all set. In between watching the 2000 Guineas - like the KY Derby for European racing then at noon trying to stay on top of the NFL draft. I think the Ravens had 5 picks this 4th round. I like my hairstylist though I miss mine from Baltimore. I do not care for jazz - rock and classical for me. I am usually brutally honest. The quote is so true, life does not stop for anyone. @dfish Thank you for the tasty looking recipes. I wish I had some pork thawed and some salsa verde. I know the Yellowhammer as a woodpecker. The Brewer Clifton wine will be pricy. Thank you for all the photos of the port and China. I can look at them vicariously. Not a place I want to visit and @JazzyV it was either really foggy or the smog was horrible. There are some places where we can enjoy the pictures but know it wouldn't be a good place to visit. Prayers for all on Roy's care list, the people in Ukraine and those housing them in Poland and for the souls in Maiupol. ๐Ÿ™ While waiting for races to go off this morning I downloaded some pics from this month. Birds and flowers.
