  1. 57 degrees and a bit of remaining rain. We have been lucky this summer that our rain has mostly come at night and the news said we are 1.5" above average for the month. We are very happy to be here where it is so hot elsewhere. My DS and my niece are up here for a whirlwind visit. We will have them here for dinner. Thank you for the Daily Reports and the care and celebration lists. Have a great day. The Daylilies are still blooming and I had my last Japanese Iris open yesterday. It needs to be divided but I always wait until all blooming is done.
  2. A cloudy morning here in northern Michigan but it is supposed to clear up. It is supposed to be breezy and cool today. I finally kicked my caffeine habit. I had been feeling palpitations so being so far from my doctors I figured the easiest way to help is stopping my caffeine. Three cups of coffee, a Diet Pepsi and a Lipton bottled ice tea was a lot per day. No palpitations since. Missing the extra pep it gave me big time. No worries about AFib DF John has a CardioMobile and I checked myself and no AFib. Gardening today and making chili. Thank you for the Daily Reports. Friends are really important. Pass on cocktail the salmon but the Malbec looks great. Never have been to that port. Prayers for those on the care list. Have a great Sunday!
  3. A hazy day here with rain due by mid afternoon. We both fished yesterday and had good luck for once, of course we are already communicating with our boat guy about winterizing the boat. John caught fish before I came out then it was my turn. 3 Walleye and a Bass. Today is watering all my potted plants and moving some of the dwindling pile of gravel. Final hot day for a few. My sister and niece are coming up tomorrow so we will have people on our side of the lake. Have a great weekend. Thank you for the Daily Reports! Pass on the cocktail and meal but the wine looks good. Prayers for the people of Ukraine and those battling illness. Prayers for the family of the family lost in that horrible PA fire. 🙏
  4. Happy Friday! John is already out fishing with winds to pick up soon. Our trip to the fair was disappointing. The last time I had gone to the fair was in 2007. It had gone noticably downhill with the animal barns about half what they were in the past, ditto with the farm produce. There were a lot of floral, food and craft exhibits. People are getting further away from farming. The trip was topped off with a pizza from our local bar. We had a surprise visit from friends who have a cabin 6 miles away. It was a short visit but it was great to see them. They farm in Indiana and are one of the all too common families who are raising grandchildren, in this case their great grandchild. I feel for them, they have to return on Sunday as school starts for her on Monday. @Quartzsite Cruiserthank you for the photos of Bordeaux. We were there for a week by land taking the train down from Paris. We saw more of wine country but we did drive around the city a bit. We had a misadventure when we couldn't figure out how to put the car in reverse so we were heading back to the train station to get instructions from the rental car company. We made a turn one street too early and ended on a dead end. Tough with no reverse. A young family stopped and although the language barrier he was able to look at the shifter and find the reverse for us. The rest of the trip was beautiful. Thank you for the Daily Reports. Prayers for those in need or battling illness. Have a wonderful weekend!
  5. Thank you for the Daily Reports. We are heading to town soon and I have a lot of potted plants to water before. A small problem last night. I rinse my hummingbird feeder in my very large rain barrels each time I fill them, lately 4 times a day. Usually it has an air bubble to float. Last night it sunk all the way to the bottom of 4' of water. I took down one of the ones a male hummer "owns" and put that into service for the multitudes. I am probably the only one feeding on the lake this year. Raspberries are ripening and I picked a nice bunch for shortcake last night. Have a great day!
  6. Nope. We buy them and it is a long drive to town to get them.
  7. Happy hump day! We had a lot of rain last night but it will probably be a good solar day. So far the new batteries and panels are excellent. The generator has come on only twice since the install and I think that was my fault. The first 2 times we ran the lake pump sprinklers I ran the generator to stop a drain on the batteries. I think it must have messed up the system because it backfired and the generator came on the next day. It will be another day of gardening since we are out of bait. Thanks @richwmnfor the Daily Reports. @grapau27thanks for the information about CLOVES Syndrome. The recipes look wonderful, I love Empanadas. The wine is another HAL standard on their wine list. We are heading to town tomorrow for a trip to our county fair with beautiful weather predicted. Prayers for those on the care list 🙏. Have a great day!
  8. A chilly morning here in the UP. It was 47 when I got up and is now up to 52. Yesterday was blustery and cloudy so I did nothing except read and water a couple of plants. My gravel pile still exists but is getting smaller. That is my project today plus digging some plants that came up in the wrong place and pot them for our downstate plant sale. @richwmnthank you for the Daily Reports. Today's recipes, cocktail and wine are all a pass. Prayers for those battling COVID and other issues. Prayers for the people of Ukraine. 🙏Have a great day! @kazuthanks for the Dahlia and Little photos. My Japanese Iris still are in bloom. Most done weeks ago but the one is a robust plant and a long bloomer. We had lasagna and a Brunello that John got from Wines till Sold Out.
  9. @kazuthank you for the Shadow update and photo and for your Dahlia photos.
  10. Good morning. Thanks for the Daily Reports @richwmn! Today's recipes @0106all look tasty and photos gorgeous. They would go well with today's wine. The cocktail is in my wheelhouse too. We are getting badly needed rain today. It started last night at midnight so I was able to see the Beagle Channel episode of Patagonia that ended at midnight CT. It was much more fun to watch than the NS Mighty Cruise Ships, the ports were a yawn but the berthing procedures were instructive though wording kind of dumbed down. Prayers for all our group battling COVID and the rest on the care list. Prayers for the people of Ukraine. 🙏 We went fishing yesterday and John got two nice smallmouth bass. I caught a tiny largemouth. It was a great day fishing because the Loon family presented themselves. It is always a cause for celebration that there is a precious chick.
  11. We really would love to see Mighty Cruise Ships but it is on at the same time as CNNs Patagonia. 😥 We don't have a DVR. I guess we can flip channels during the ads. Today is going to be sunny and muggy. We will probably fish if the wind doesn't pick up. John is heading out right now. Yesterday flew by and I never did my manicure but I downloaded all photos remaining on my memory card and dated and labeled them. Today's recipe looks great. It has ingredients we always have in the house. Thanks @0106fir for the recipes. The cocktail would be great minus the mint. I have been to Skagway September 2016 on my first HA cruise. We rode horses but my photos are in my laptop. Thank you for the Daily Reports @richwmn. Prayers for all on the care list, especially for those battling COVID and the people of Ukraine. 🙏
  12. Good Saturday morning! 56 degrees and warming up today. I will be cleaning the cabin and doing my manicure while watching horse racing from Saratoga today. I use the dip powder for my manicure but it is an hour plus to get the old polish off. The new goes on in 15 minutes. We had a pretty sunrise this morning. I found my missing Monarch larva on my Milkweed. So happy it is still going strong. My avatar photo is from Leixos near the "Eiffel Tower" bridge. That is all I have all others are on my laptop. I was there September 2018 on the Konigsdam. It was a beautiful day. Prayers for all on Roy's care list and cheers to those on a ship or celebrating. Rich thank you for pulling this together on a daily basis! Have a great Saturday. Sunrise today and my rolling tomato plants. I have their containers on carts to follow the sun and nestle against the warm logs at night. A busy Coneflower loaded with Orange Rumped Bumblebees.
  13. It is Friday and maybe we can string a few days together at the cabin with no road trips.. DF John has no hobbies other than fishing and watching sports so he gets the itch to go more often than I. Today's special days ere covered yesterday. It was wing Thursday at our local restaurant and I picked up a lasagna when I went to the Italian store to get Portobello Ravioli. I look forward to trying it. 56 degrees and some breeze so a good day for shoveling gravel and cleaning up all my messy Nasturtium plants, they need some serious trimming. Thanks for the Daily Reports Rich and thanks for the prayer list Roy. The cocktail looks good minus the bitters, a big pass on the salmon soup. Meiomi PN represents one of the values on HA wine package. It was on the mid priced list and with Mariner discount is the only one I know doesn't cause migraines and is quite tasty. Prayers for all on our prayer list and continued for the people of Ukraine. 🙏 Our wing and turkey club dinner last evening.
  14. I am very late as we went to town AGAIN. No problems just iffy weather so a road trip to Lake Superior. I am glad I checked in and saw the pictures of Shadow. Jacqui it looks like he belongs there, what a handsome dog! Have a great day everyone!
  15. Happy hump day. Rainy here we had a night of rain last night. A thunderstorm would roll through then another more lightning than wind or heavy rain. I am sure the garden is loving it. We had a nice trip into town to a real grocery with great produce in Escanaba. I was able to get on Navigator but the tour I wanted was full so I contacted PCA Francis to get me on the waiting list. Therefore I booked two excursions for Ushuaia and Buenos Aires so I don't meet the same problem. A day of gardening and gravel moving today. Have a great day and thanks for the Daily Reports. I think the cocktail would be really strange with Laphroaig but they are smoking so many cocktails these days it could do it with the Laphroaig. Thanks for the conchas recipes. I would see them at breakfast buffets in Mexico now I am sad I didn't try them. Prayers for all on our Care list and continued prayers for Ukraine. 🙏
  16. We are heading to town today. I am going to try to get on HAL Navigator today on my phone. It will require password reset because it has been so long. I think I can book excursions for our 2023 cruise. I have been watching CNNs Patagonia on Sunday evenings and I decided to go to Torres del Paine if it is still open. The price is is breathtaking but I am sure the views will be also. @kazuI am so happy Shadow has landed in Canada. Sandy I hope your DD surgery goes well. Your DG is lovely. Prayers for all needing them. 🙏 Thank you for the Daily Reports!
  17. Good morning ! An early start for me as the wifi is going to town without me. DF has to get lottery tickets. I am taking a pass it is 56 degrees here and will remain cool so that pile of gravel is my project today. Thank you for the Daily Reports! @0106 thank you for the recipes the last one with beef looks tasty. The chardonnay is a new one for me and if I see it I will give it a try. Prayers for the 2 US families who lost sons fighting for Ukraine and all people in Ukraine and the refugees and those who support them. Prayers for all on our group who need them. 🙏 Sadly I have a bird that can tolerate Monarch larva. Two have disappeared on this same stand of milkweed.
  18. Thank you for the Daily. Today's wine and cocktail both look great. The dish I will pass undercooked eggs not for me. Prayers for those on Roy's care report. It is going to blow today and will be cooler. I plan on dividing Japanese Iris and moving gravel. My pile of gravel and the multitude of chipmunks I feed and a pretty bluegill by a sunken tree in the middle of a cove.
  19. Happy Saturday! We are heading out fishing. A storm is on the way and some clouds moving in making for better fishing. Low wind a help too. Ribs and potato salad for dinner tonight. Happy to say our wine is holding out. We bring it from downstate as prices so much better from Costco. Nearest here is 3 hours drive to and from Green Bay. I bought a propane freezer 2 years ago and I am happy I stuffed the freezers at home with sale meat. The stuff here is so pricey which isn't bad if it looks good but it doesn't. Thank you for the Daily Reports! I always look forward to all the comestibles and the port photos. Prayers for those in Ukraine, I hope the grain cooperation will work so grain for needy countries can get out. Prayers for those needing them. Last year I ordered 3 Daylilies from Oakes in TN. First bought additions since before we moved into the cabin in 2007. All others I moved bare root from Maryland or from unsold from our Baltimore County Master Gardener plant sale. Most all the plants I have here were travelers from Maryland or abundant volunteers. I pay it back as many ride downstate for my garden club plant sale. Have a wonderful weekend!
  20. Happy Friday! We are having a quiet weekend with no neighbors nearby for the first time in weeks. It is going to be hot and muggy the next 2 days so the cabin is already closed up. It was 65 degrees inside from being wide open all night. That head start should keep us cool all day. Nothing planned other than gardening and fishing. Oh and spreading the river rock gravel that sits on our driveway to shore up what we have to keep splashing up on the logs. @kazuthank you for the garden photos. My daylilies are just beginning to bloom. Have a great weekend! Thank you for the Daily Reports! Prayers for all those needing them. 🙏
  21. Good morning. We chose the right day to head to town. Yesterday was cloudy and off and on rain but we dodged it at every stop. It is going to be windy so it will be a day of gardening. It will be good to get caught up. Thanks for the Daily Reports. Prayers for those in Ukraine and those on Roy's care list. We enjoyed our junk food yesterday so we are eating healthier today. We went to a restaurant that had fish fry daily in a touristy town Eagle River.
  22. We are heading to town on bumpy roads. Have a wonderful day and thank you for the Daily Reports and the care lists. We had a beautiful sunrise ahead of a deluge.
  23. Good morning. We had a big thunderstorm last night mainly rain and sound effects. As usual running the sprinklers brings in unexpected rain. All plants very happy. It is a gray day and we will go fishing. The lake is so clear that we need some help to not be so visible. My sister is still up at her place nearby but is heading downstate tomorrow. It seems I see her for more quality time here at the lake because we usually all have dinner together. Have a wonderful day and thanks for the Daily Reports. Raspberry cake sounds yummy and the huge patch along our lawn may yield some for making one. Prayers for those on our group and families in need.
  24. Good Monday morning! We are going to get some more heat but nothing that others are suffering from. I am thinking of those in Great Britain as only a small percentage have AC. @grapau27I hope you do or have a shady corner in your beautiful garden to sit. We turned on the pump from the lake to run sprinklers for my garden as no rain was in the forecast. We pumped water for 2 hours while I worked a hose off the lake water pump giving water lovers an extra drink. As usual we had a pop up shower in the afternoon with about .1 of an inch. Even the lawn gets a drink. A big thunderstorm predicted for tonight. Fishing was ok yesterday many Bluegill from decent to tiny. At least they are beginning to bite. Prayers for all those on the care list and the people of Ukraine. Very little news from there because of all the carnage in our country. I hope it doesn't turn into a quagmire. Thank you for the Daily Reports! John lives guac I don't. I love a good Riesling on a hot summer day but today's looks pricey and probably hard to find.
  25. Good morning everyone. We are in for some hot days so our run of perfect weather is taking a hiatus. Badly needed rain not coming. I love ice cream with happy memories of going to our family dairy when it was ice cream day. We would get a coffee mug and my uncle would let the soft ice cream from the machine into it. So much better before going into the hard freezer. We love crispy chicken aand and common up here in the UP is broasted chicken which is super crispy and juicy. @Crazy For CatsHappy anniversary!🍾 @kazubeautiful garden photos! Thank you for the Daily Reports! Have a great day and prayers for all on Roy's care list. 🙏
