Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Hello, We are going to be on Nieuw Statendam for a New Year's Eve cruise at the end of this year. We depart most of the ports at 5pm but we have early dining so are likely to miss out on sailaway views. But we are going to do specialty dining on a couple of nights later in the evening and see it as an opportunity to enjoy the sailaway. We thought we would choose the evenings for specialty dining based on which ports have the best sailaway views. Can you help me choose which ports/evenings? Philipsburg, Sint Maarten 12/30 Saturday Castries, Saint Lucia 1/1 Monday Roseau, Dominica 1/2 Tuesday Basseterre, St Kitts and Nevis 1/3 Wednesday St. Thomas, U.S.V.I. 1/4 Thursday Thank you so much. Laura
  2. We will be at St. Johns, Antigua and Barbuda on New Year's Eve Day. I'm wondering how the holiday might affect things being open. We plan to take it easy that day so we aren't looking for much. We are going to sleep in or take an afternoon nap or both to fuel up on rest for the late night party. But we do want to get off the ship for a couple of hours and just explore St. Johns on our own. We are thinking to walk to St. John's Cathedral, followed by the Museum of Antigua and Barbuda, and finally hit Redcliffe Quay for Lunch and maybe a little shopping. Is there any reason to think that the holiday is going to affect these plans? Do you have any other information for others who might have different plans? Thanks, Laura
  3. Hello all, Thanks for all the helpful info. We are on a New Year's cruise on Nieuw Statendam departing Fort Lauderdale on Dec 27 for 11 nights. I'm wondering how much Christmas stuff there might be. We would love some Christmas stuff. My step-father-in-law is English and he is used to celebrating the 12 days of Christmas till Epiphany. Thanks, Laura
  4. Hello, We are in the Nieuw Statendam for New Year's and I'm trying to figure out how many formal nights to plan for and if New Year's Eve counts as one of them. Does anyone know? It's an 11 night cruise with sea days on days 2, 3, and 10 and NYE on day 5. Thanks so much, Laura
  5. Hello all, I'm on a holiday cruise over New Year's. Does anyone know if the Orange Party will coincide with a formal/gala night? Or will they be on separate nights? Thanks, Laura
  6. Above people mentioned knowing how many ships and which ships will be in port on a particular day. How do I find that information? How crowded can I expect the sea lion show to be. How much time before the show starts do I need to nail down our seats? Thanks
  7. I expect to be there March 17, 2023. Wondering what to expect with regards to seaweed. The last time we went, the cruise line advised against the beaches for this reason. Anybody been here recently? Reading the reviews of the place, it looks like it has gotten very rundown, overcrowded, and has too many pushy salespeople. Can anyone comment? We don't want to do anything extra. We want to enjoy the weather, beach, and water. We will have our own snorkel stuff with us and hope to see the underwater statues. Hope the park is nice, we'd like to wonder around a bit at some point and enjoy the gardens, landscape, prehispanic replicas, and such. In the middle of the day we will get lunch at one of the restaurants. What is the best way to get into the water for snorkeling? I hear there is rocks between the sand and the water. I'm not good on rocks.
