Can some please recommend a hotel, airbnb or other accommodations in Vancover that won't break the bank?

Stayed at Holiday Inn Riverport Richmond, pre-cruise.  Nice hotel, clean, friendly staff, excellent breakfast, nice size room, bathroom.

Hotel is not downtown.  About 20 min. from airport, 45 min. from cruise port.  If you want to be in a lively area, this hotel is not for you.

We enjoyed our 1 night stay, and would book again.  I've checked the Rate for Sept. 2024, and it has increased about USD $100 since Sept 2023

In my opinion, Star is looking it’s age. We were on in Dec-Jan 2021-22 and then again in Feb. 2024.  Two years ago we had a cabin with a ripped pleather couch.  This year, I don’t know, everything just looked tired.  I wouldn’t necessarily avoid it, but our cruise on the much newer Neptune a month ago was much nicer.  Can’t speak to the drawers, since we always book PV which has drawers in the closet.

Was told by several crew in both January and March this year, that Star is going into drydock in November, and ship to be refurbished as well.

  3. Have noticed for several months:  when doing a mock booking, wording above cabin selection  says to select cabin from all available inventory, and way more cabins show than the previous listing of only 5 or so cabins.

To answer @JerryInIL question, was recently on TA FLL/BCN.  Around 800 pax.

  4. Was on Star, Hawaiian  Islands Sojourn  28 Dec 2023 thru 13 Jan 2024, LA/LA.

Seas were very rough about 3 hours out of LA.  Just after sail away, Captain warned pax, and he was correct.  Lasted approximately 3 days.  Not frightening, but had to move about carefully, holding railings, walking slowly, etc.  Bags were out.

Also rough seas on return, approaching West coast, but not as bad as begining of voyage.

Cabin was deck 5 midships, so I suspect those on higher decks fore and aft felt more motion.

We were fine, but noticed public venues did lack several pax.

  5. Stayed in 4114 DV5 (far aft portside) on last TA.  Very quiet, not withstanding neighborly sounds -- always a variable.

Got lots of steps walking to theatre forward, and everywhere else !

All DV's are the same, size, as are V's.

Good to hear. We have Vigur Island booked on our upcoming trip in August. We were also able to book Northern Iceland’s Natural Treasures. It did fill up fast. As for Reykjavik, we’re on the pre-extension and have to Golden Circle booked independently on our free day. When on the ship we’re doing the full day trip to the southern coast.

I will do a “Live From” post for the cruise (Iceland’s Majestic Landscapes)  so stay tuned for more information.

Looking forward to reading your upcoming Live from.  Thanks

  7. Reluctant to add to this debate, yet a person who lives in a $1 million or a $5 million or more home, certainly does not "need" that extra space to live.

They "choose" it because the are, most likely financially able. I do not pass judgement on those folks.

People do that with which they are comfortable, be it homes (maybe 2 or 3), cars, or even tipping.

New Photo ?  I liked your Avatar -- it allowed me to imagine what you looked like !

I had viewed your comparison Xcel sheet, and also noticed your names and booking #.  Now deleted.

I would also like to experience Explora Journeys, at the right price point.  I recently watched a Travel Agency presentation, live from the Explora Journey ship.  Looks and sounds like you will enjoy your cruise with them.  They also include gratuities in the fare.

Sorry for the autocorrection typo that made you think it was very funny. No, we normally get a sale price for the cabin that we booked originally. It might be some other type of compensation if one is past the final payment date. Most of the time we get to keep the promotions that we have already had. Though, some sales and promotions are not combinable with all booking onboard benefits, but the “Best buy guarantee” was always honored in our experience.

Good to know you always received satisfaction of the BPG.  If you have read the topic "Watching Deals and Sales", you can see not all pax receive the BPG.  @jonthomas has reported an unsatisfactory result.

Well, we got an additional 4pp because of the flash sale.

There is a difference of 400 pp. When the upgrade sale came along we got 200pp obc. Now we got an additional 4pp. Laughable ...

So if you got more than that, enjoy. I say there will be another promo for this Alaska Sept sailing, since there is so much available.

Then maybe we will get another 4pp in obcs...lol

On reading of 1st sentence, thought you meant $400 pp.

Now you'll be able to buy a couple soft drinks with your $8.

IMO, not an honorable way to treat repeat pax, especially since you have BPG.

This was a CC host asking that you use the reporting function to request the thread be pinned.

While many of the reporting reasons are negative, there are two that are not - "this post is OK, but I want to let a moderator know" or "this thread needs attention". In either case you can spell out your request for the thread to be pinned.

It's not clear why you conclude that the advice given by a host is not applicable, but certainly up to you. 🍺🥌

I have "Reported" to ask for topic to be pinned to top of Viking Ocean category.

I don't think "reporting" the thread is the right way to go.  All the reasons for reporting are negative.  Reporting seems to be a punitive action.  Anyway, pinning the thread at the top of the board was just a suggestion.  Periodic postings of questions will always bump the thread back to the top.

Thank you.  I didn't see the option when booking online to do a deviation, so wasn't sure.  I assume I have to talk to an agent to do a deviation?

No, you are able to do this yourself on My Viking Journey - MVJ - portal, once you add your cruise to profile, and air has been assigned.  Find options under the "Manage My Air" tab.

  14. Happy to say that my daughter and son-in-law are now on their 1st cruise together, (his 1st ever cruise) on X in Alaska.

She has elite status, based on our many, many X cruises, starting in 1993. Last X was 2018.

She has been on many cruises with us, so I'm confident that she will really enjoy the cruise life, especially now with husband.

Proud to say she made all travel arrangements, air, hotel cruise, shorex, herself.  I did share some advice, learned from some 50 cruises.  And of course much that I learned from fellow CC pax.
