  1. Recipe looks good. I want to try this too. I remember my first Mai-Tai at the Trader Vics restaurant. I was hooked. Here's their recipe: https://www.eater.com/21348867/best-mai-tai-recipe-history I would think that the Grand Marnier would be a good substitute for the orange curacao. Are you going to do Kraken for the dark rum. I am excited to hear your results. Make sure you put an umbrella in it, as adds to the taste ;>) Cheers!
  2. Heartbreaking Graham. I am so sorry. Sorry to hear about Lila. Jade is a wonderful addition to the family. She is so beautiful. I have no doubt she will warm up to you and be very loving. I think a piano would be an exciting place for a kitten to hang out in.
  3. Beautiful house and some beautiful kitties. Could this be considered a "cathouse"? 😜 Congrats to Owen what a great win. Loved the video. I remember those days with my son. So happy we don't have to wash uniforms anymore. Bob I think you nailed it. That makes a lot of sense. Even though Kraken is a spiced rum it has it's own unique flavor profile. I can see mixing the three. Those recipes for the Royal Caribbean bartenders document had a lot of recipes that had both light rum and spiced rum. I think some people probably think that about me. In reality I only drink on the weekends. When I'm on a cruise I will have cocktails everyday. Balances me out.
  4. The Sidecar is very good. I'm a big fan. I would substitute the Kraken for only the Mayer's Dark Rum. The other rums are lighter but I do not know the difference between Bacardi and Castillo. The Malibu Rum is not technically a rum but rum based spirit with coconut flavoring.
  5. Sorry to hear this.I hope the antibiotics work and he gets relief fast. Great attitude. I hope you feel better.
  6. Wishing you a successful hand surgery soon. I love the sound of vinyl. It has a warmth to it. I still have a couple hundred albums that I keep even though I have digital copies of them. I have a very good analog to digital convertor so I have been digitizing all my albums. What a cutie. Took me a minute to find him. Beautiful kitty. Love the look. They have tons of energy so spunky it will be. Wow I had no idea. I guess I learn something new everyday. I would be interested in what tape sold for $60K? I hope they have a machine to play it on. Sorry to hear you are still positive. Are your symptoms still mild?
  7. My all time favorite fettuccine Alfredo. I know it's high calorie but I do love it. Interesting note. I ate in Rome at the original Alfredo's restaurant where fettuccine Alfredo was invented. It's a cool restaurant with pictures on the wall of all the famous people who have eaten there. Funny thing is that their Alfredo is different than how we do it over here. Most places do it with heavy cream. At the restaurant they just melt the cheese in with noodles and a little bit of the pasta water. It is lighter in taste. I prefer the heavy whipping cream as well as my waistline.
  8. Congratulations! Those Buckeyes look very tasty. I could eat all of them. Chocolate and peanut butter what a glorious combination.
  9. Those flowers are beautiful and I love the pictures. "Thunbergia erecta" made me have a Beavis and Butthead giggle. Thank you Mark I will check out that site. Those are nice looking.
  10. I forgot to add a new cocktail that I just had for the first time called "Old Square" which is also know as a "Vieux Carre." This was really amazing and sorry I don't have a picture. Here is the recipe: 1 oz. Rye 1 oz. Cognac 1oz Sweet Vermouth 1/2 oz Benedictine Liqueur 2 Dashes Angostura Bitters 2 Dashes Peychaud's Bitters 1 Orange peel for flaming and garnish. Mix everything in a glass mixing container with ice. Stir for 30 seconds. Flame the orange peel and rim the glass before pouring in the liquid. Add as garnish. By flaming the orange peel you give it a good flavor profile. It adds a smokey orange flavor and the aroma is better than just a standard orange twist. Cheers it's 5 o'clock somewhere.
  11. Welcome home I'm happy that you had a great trip. I did the same thing. Yes I can not drink it straight. Great in a cocktail however. Thanks for reminding me. I need to try that.
  12. I've actually had that. It was pretty good. I'm not big on flavored whiskey's except for bourbon aged in sherry, port, or rum barrels. The flavored ones are kinda gimmicky to me. I'm sorry for your loss. I'm sure that cocktail was toasted to in her honor. Looks very good. Sounds delicious. Cheers my friend. It is my go to for any rum based cocktail. I don't even use light rum anymore. Looks very tasty. Hope you are out of "Q" soon.
  13. Sorry you had to cancel. Hopefully you can get to a warm beach soon. It was fun seeing that my judging went along with the experts. Try learning about bourbon, it's fun. and fun to drink. Done that and done that. Thanks I'm glad you enjoyed it. It's something I know you would have appreciated. Congrats on a successful move. The new house looks great. Now the fun begins unpacking everything.
  14. Sorry I have not been around today. Full day of a fantastic event. Most of you know my passion for good bourbon and recently Missouri’s very own distillery Holiday Distillery released their first bottled in bond bourbon in over 35 years. Today at the distillery they had bourbon and brunch with mingling with bourbon experts Doug Frost, (one of only four people in the world to hold both Master Sommelier and Master of Wine titles and spirits.) Kyle Merklein, (head distiller at Holladay) Maggie Kimberl, (Content Editor at American Whiskey Magazine) and Michael Veach, (Author and bourbon historian and a member of the Kentucky Bourbon Hall of Fame) as well as master mixologists from the Kansas City area. Master distiller Kyle Merklein and myself. The judges. we did a sampling of bourbon cocktails from the local master mixologists. Each bartender will bring a unique cocktail to the table to be sampled and scored by our guests for a “People’s Choice” award and then judged by our panel of bourbon experts! My winner and winner of the people choice. A version of an old fashioned made with blackberry jam converted into a simple syrup and believe it or not balsamic vinegar. Judges picked was this tasty cocktail. Complete with cherry tomato garnish. Another interesting was this one with smoked pineapple juice and a thyme simple syrup. The food and cocktails were amazing as well as talking to these experts in their field. A little bit about Holiday Distillery. It all started with the limestone spring. First discovered in what would become Weston, Missouri, by Lewis and Clark during their 1804 expedition, a pure limestone spring was a rarity whose potential was recognized by two enterprising young brothers by the names of Ben Holladay and Major David Holladay. After visiting the site, which was then a meat-packing house, the Holladay brothers divined an even greater purpose for that limestone spring: Bourbon. Together, they founded this distillery in 1856. Ben Holladay went on to great fame and fortune as the “Stagecoach King,” running the stagecoach lines from Missouri to the West Coast that later became the Wells Fargo Express, and ultimately acquiring the Pony Express as well. It is the oldest distillery west of the Mississippi river. It’s on beautiful land and the tour was so interesting. Yeast doing it's thing. They let us stick our finger in and taste. This was a future wheated bourbon. Nice and sweet. Copper still Limestone well for the water source. One of two rickhouses. This is where the magic begins. Some of these barrels will stay here for 6 years. Each barrel weighs over 500 pounds. Watch your feet. Local corn and rye. All in all a beautiful day to learn about bourbon, it's history and the making of. I learned a lot and really enjoyed some amazing cocktails and wonderful conversations. Cheers!
  15. Yes I may need to order a whole bunch of new Sea Dog T-shirts.😉 I enjoyed the movie. Fun to see all the places I recognized on the ship. Thanks Graham. Hope you had a great day. Cheers! Thanks, I feel pretty good about it and I'm on a mission. Makes working out so much easier when your retired and have the time. Thank you so much! I am a big fan of the Hallmark Christmas movies. Are they predictable? Yes. Are they cookie cutter scripts? Yes. Is the acting sometimes over the top? Yes. But I enjoy it for what it is. I know I'm not watching a movie that is a award winner. Sometimes I watch them for the fun of it. Now that we will cruising 2-3 times a year I want to keep the weight down so I don't have to worry about what I eat on a cruise. Eating and drinking is part of the fun of a cruise.
  16. Congratulations that's awesome. I've lost 32lbs since my knee replacement. The first 20 I can chalk up to the opioid diet since the pain meds did not make me hungry. Now that I have one good knee and one bad I can at least walk and get on the elliptical. Still need to drop 30-40 more to feel really good. Keep up the great work!
  17. Oh I am so sorry as that sounds awful. I would go crazy not being able to taste things. I do hope you get your taste back very soon. Hang in there! Tell Caden congratulations from one professional photographer to another. That is a really good photo. Yes! The big reveal at the end left me wondering a lot of things. This could go anywhere. Superb acting as you saw from JK and Sissy as well as others. I would hope they would renew but you never know.
  18. I did not know that. Thanks for that info as we are looking to buy a 4K TV. Yes it is hard on your back. I remember mine hurting too as you are slightly bent over washing.
  19. Yes that's the key. I get a little impatient. In the end I will be a lot better off. One day at a time as they say.
  20. It's doing ok. I have my good days and not so good days. The good news is that it out performs my other knee but I still get sore and stiff. Numbness and some swelling are still an issue. Thanks for caring. It looked a little dark to me but it was not unwatchable. A lot of films are being shot on digital cameras which can tolerate low light. Sometimes I think in an effort to keep the budget low they will do less lighting since lots of lights and crew gets very expensive. Glad our spies were on it. Happy OB day!
