  1. Sure, everyone on here is poo-pooing the idea because it's probably not feasible, but my wife and i was talking about this the other day because two ships are currently sitting off the coast of San Diego. We go on numerous "getaways" to places like Palm Springs and we simply stay at a resort and eat around town or go to movies and drink by the pool. That being said, we would totally do a day pass on a docked cruise ship. Yes, we have a pool and there are good places to eat in SD but just being on a ship is fun. If it was fully functional, like games, dining, ammnities like pools and stuff for kids, I would absolutely do it. People pay hundreds a night to stat at Hard Rock hotel in downtown San Diego and it's pool deck is not nearly as nice as some cruise ships I've been on.
  2. I don't think you will see a dramatic drop in prices. Those of us on these boards are a small segment of the cruising population. I would say for every one person on these boards who say they will NOT cruise in 2021, there are five who will want to cruise in 2021. People are eager to get their lives started again. Here in San Diego I am seeing tons of tourists at local touristy spots like Balboa Park and the SD Zoo. If the ships book at 75% capacity, you will see cruises sell out fast once the CDC says it's okay to resume cruising again.
  3. Mexico is set to open to US travel (non-essential) in August.
  4. I was lucky enough to be on the inaugural Panorama cruise and while it's an extremely beautiful ship, with lots of stuff to do, see and eat, to me, it felt confining. I greatly enjoy a wide open atrium but the small, yet beautiful, center section of the Panorama left me waning. The main pool deck on the Panorama felt confined as well. Nice to have two large jacuzzi's on the back of the ship but would have liked a small pool back there as well. I greatly enjoyed out Carnival Dream cruise out of NO a few years back. Splendor was okay but not my fav. Can't wait to try the Radiance though.
  5. I dunno, excited and bummed at the same time. Those small Fantasy class ships, while older, just felt nice for a short cruise. You see the same staff throughout the ship. We grew to know our Russian waiter pretty well on the last ten or so cruises on her. A big ship is nice but you loose some of that intimacy of a smaller ship that's easy to navigate and you get to know the faces of the staff. Oh well. Onward and upward my dad use to say.
  6. Wife looked today and they are not available. All that's available is Panorama. On a side note, I was surprised by this move. That's a big ship for 3 and 4 day cruises. Wonder if they will mix in seven day cruises as well?
  7. Okay....tell the truth, which one of you was this.... https://summit.news/2020/07/20/video-screeching-woman-with-tape-measure-lectures-others-for-not-social-distancing/ @clo Was this you!!
  8. To op's question...no. I don't live my life in fear and hide away in my house or yelling at people to wear masks.
  9. This ^^ Starlink sent out beta test emails this week. Some states in the US are now testing.
  10. I was watching a youtube video from a cruise line staff audio and lighting tech and they were choosing to stay on their ship versus going home. This was a couple weeks ago and haven't watched any of his vids since but they were staying in a regular passenger cabin, had free internet, free food and were receiving a small payment from the cruise line. During the video they indicated there was nothing for them to do at home and would have to make housing arrangements etc. They looked to be having a good time. Although most of the ship was closed, not sure if that would be my decision.
  11. Everyone is really all over the place on this topic and no one knows for sure. Two Fantasy class ships serve Long Beach and are ALWAYS full. Some speculate that they may decommission them for the Miracle\Splendor etc. But those the Inspiration Imagination fit a niche for first time cruisers and low price point. We take the three and four day cruise several times a year. The ships are always full. I doubt they get rid of those itineraries from the west coast any time soon much less taking both of the Fantasy class ships from Long Beach. (Well, maybe one but that's TBD)
  12. Sad to hear the Fantasy being decommissioned. We cruised on her out of Charleston and had a great time. Despite it being spring break, most of the college kids were respectful. I remember being that young and dumb so we took it with a grain of salt. Some fun memories for sure on that ship.
  13. New England Journal of Medicine says masks do nothing to protect us.... We know that wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection. Public health authorities define a significant exposure to Covid-19 as face-to-face contact within 6 feet with a patient with symptomatic Covid-19 that is sustained for at least a few minutes (and some say more than 10 minutes or even 30 minutes). The chance of catching Covid-19 from a passing interaction in a public space is therefore minimal. Focusing on universal masking alone may, paradoxically, lead to more transmission of Covid-19 if it diverts attention from implementing more fundamental infection-control measures. http://archive.is/DatC5
  14. Agree 100%. Those who are at a greater risk should be prioritized. Sadly, here in CA, Newsom thinks it's better to bust bars and restaurants and ban people from the beach than go after those who most need the prioritized care. https://www.usnews.com/news/best-states/california/articles/2020-07-09/la-nursing-home-accused-of-dumping-patients-amid-virus And hypothetically , should cruising resume in Oct, Nov...whenever, I hope no one over 65 are on those ships.
  15. So what then....stay at home orders go in place....numbers drop...How long do you propose we continue to tank our economy and stay closed? You offering to kick in funds for my wife's unemployment? So we open things back up again....infection numbers will go up again. I think you've said before you are retired. Must be nice, but some of us have jobs, responsibilities, lives.
