  1. FWIW, we had no issue with the scones on the cruise before yours.
  2. We’ve always done this — and we didn’t need Steve’s advice, we thought it through on our own.
  3. You probably mean Gullfoss waterfall, which is on the Golden Circle (and quite spectacular). There is no Fullfoss in Iceland.
  4. Hear hear, Christine!
  5. Absolutely, do your homework! For example, if you prefer travel companies that specialize in photography, you may decide to go with Wild-Eye out of South Africa rather than a cruise. Different strokes for different folks! 🤣🤣🤣 www.wild-eye.com
  6. Thanks for identifying yourself as the person I mentioned.
  7. You won’t be disappointed. One person in particular on this thread doesn’t like Viking at all. But others on Cruise Critic enjoy the onboard experience very much. Count us among them — we just returned from a wonderful Viking cruise to Norway and Iceland. Have a great trip!
  8. You really should have met Felix and Risa. They were great!
  9. That’s quite an extrapolation — from one steward on one ship to the entire company. But if extrapolation is in order, I’ll say that the stellar service we received last month from Felix and Risa (our stewards onboard the new Saturn) bodes quite well for Viking.
  10. Some weeks ago, commenters criticized Viking staff for being too effusive when greeting passengers departing from or returning to the ship. Now the concern, stated above, is that too many crew members may be “shy” (expressed in quotation marks for whatever said marks add to the word’s common meaning). A Viking ship carries several hundred staff. It’s reasonable to assume, therefore, that passengers will meet effusive crew during a cruise, and shy crew, and crew on other points of the emotional spectrum. That was the case on the cruise I completed last month. So I roll with it. Why not? The human condition is endless.
  11. @WanderingBrit Correction: Seydisfjordur isn’t the only ferry port in Iceland. It’s the only international port. Domestic ferry ports include Stykkisholmur to the Westfjords and Heimaey Island in South Iceland. We’ve had the pleasure of taking both trips.
  12. Yes, despite what Linda says. 🤣 Old-school British hotel. Perfect for Canadians! 😄
  13. There are far worse places than Iceland to be left behind. Just make sure you have a fat wallet. 🙃
  14. I did the train trip earlier this month. The shuttle bus stop is about 1/3 mile from the train station. There’s a very nice cafe at the station if you want to get a bite or a drink before or after the trip.
  15. I was on the cruise before Clay’s cruise. There’s a shuttle to Leknes (the Lofoten town closest to the cruise pier).
  16. At separate times, we ordered each of these restaurant items last week during our six-day stay in Iceland’s Westfjords. The beers were about $10 each; the panini, $11; and $25 for the fish and chips. So $71 seems high, but that could be due to higher prices in Reykjavik.
  17. Tea at the Peninsula Hotel is a must (Kowloon, a stone’s throw from the Star Ferry). I agree with the comments about Stanley on Hong Kong Island.
  18. Unfortunately, that’s not possible for some people.
  19. Mamsens = waffles. No menu required.
  20. Thanks for your kind words, Kent! Linda and I had a great time in Norway and Iceland. We highly recommend the itinerary — you and Pam will have a fabulous trip next year! Let us know by email if you have specific questions about any part of what we did.
  21. Great photo! We tried to book the Better Moments walrus safari, but only one space was available. Oh well. At least we saw the walrus herd (pod?) from a distance on Hurtigruten’s wildlife safari.
  22. My very last pic before leaving fair Iceland. This is one of the resident monsters at the Sea Serpents museum in Westfjords.
