  1. Does anyone have a review of this? It seems like a great way to see the main sights. Thoughts?

This excursion is an ideal introduction to the city’s major highlights. Reach the natural fortress of the Acropolis, and with your guide you’ll walk up the uneven footpath heading to the summit. Sights include the Propylaea, Temple of Apteros Niki, Erectheum and the Architectural Triumph of the Parthenon. Continue with a city drive and see Constitution Square, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, Royal Palace, Hadrian’s Gate and the Old Marble Olympic Stadium.

After lunch, drive along the scenic coastal road which affords splendid views of the Saronic Gulf and takes you through some of Athens' most beautiful suburbs. Arrive at Cape Sounion to visit the Temple of Poseidon, standing some 200 feet above the sea at the edge of a cliff. It is one of the most breathtaking and deeply moving sights in all of Greece. Fifteen of the original 34 columns of the Doric order still stand in majestic splendor.

  2. I think there was a thread a while back about how to convert your OBC to cash by playing roulette. If you cannot find it, I think it involved betting your OBC chips on both red and black, knowing that (unless green comes up) one will win and double and the other will lose. So if you bet $20 on each of red and black with OBC chips, each hand you will lose $20 in OBC chips and gain $20 in cash. Then take the cash and make the same bet again with only OBC chips. You can keep doing this until all of your OBC chips are lost and you have the same amount of cash.

And you can of course hedge with a smaller bet on green in case that comes up. If you don't hedge and green comes up you'd lose everything you bet that hand; if you hedge each hand you'll lose most of those smaller bets. So it is not necessarily a 1:1 conversion of OBC to cash but it would be pretty close. And you'd have fun gambling too!

    I like you.

  3. A little simple clarification. The Acropolis is a hill in the middle of Athens. The Parthenon is the temple to Athena which is the focal point but not the only ruin on the Acropolis. By the way the Pantheon is a famous temple in the middle of Rome.

Thank you, However, I did mean to type Parthenon the entire thread, but your reply was helpful, thank you.

  4. Hi All. I am doing a 12 night cruise in November that includes Athens. I have noticed a lot of the tours that the cruise lines offer go to the Acorpolis, but not the Pathenon. Is this normal? I know they are close together, however, never have been to Athens before, I would like to make sure I am seeing both of those ruins. Any tips or suggestions welcomed, thank you!

  5. I think that RCI and STX wanted to impress the public with the "early delivery" of the Harmony of the Seas, based on their experience with Oasis and Allure, but their calculations were inaccurate. They didn't take into account that french workforce has a slower pace than Finland... The same happened with Airbus and the A380.

I think you may be onto something. Its always nice to have something rolled out early. Its impressive and surprising, especially something of this size and status.

I feel like Royal put itself in a "no win" situation by allowing people to sail on this ship while construction was going on. Cruise lines do construction on ships all the time while in operation, however, its usually small scale. I was on a cruise once where the pool was being redone. This wasn't a huge deal. The ship had two pools. From the pictures I have seen and posts from twitter and other cruise blogs, this construction is more major and disturbing. After the Empress being delayed for over a month, it raised my eyebrow.

  6. Try reading some more reviews before labeling the whole ship as "a total mess".

No thanks. I already saw it on two different news outlets and on another cruise website. I saw tweets from guests showing urinals that wouldn't flush. That right there qualifies for "total mess" in my book. Thats publicity that normally goes along with Carnival. But yeah, keep that condescending flow.

  7. Hey blue! I know youll be all over this. So once I buy my ferry ticket, they will have ride back and forth to the baths at the dock and the park? Where do I buy the ticket? When I was in Tortola last year the port still had major construction and I didn't see a place to buy ferry tickets...

  8. No worries, the drivers will tell you what time you should be ready to return to the ferry (or Spanishtown if you want that) and they will be at the Top of the Baths to pick you up. They do this daily and are very good at not losing passengers ;)

Thanks Blue. I think I will do it on my own. Its about half the price and I have been there before. What is spanishtown like? Is it worth going there? If speedys ferry rate includes land transport, I will probably just go that route. 30 round trip is a good deal.

  9. If you go to Virgin Gorda you'll want to take a return ferry that gets you back before the ship leaves :p Sorry, couldn't resist...

On Sunday that may be a 1PM departure from VG, other days it may be a 12:40 departure. These will get you back to Tortola at 1:30 and 1:10, respectively.

Otherwise an island tour on Tortola is a great idea.

Hey Blue, thanks for the tip. We will actually be in Tortola on Wednesday. The thing I was most concerned about is a cab/ride back from The baths to the ferry. Is that an issue?
