  1. I’m so proud of him, his girls and all that they have achieved. I’m Even more proud of the way he has treated the one that was tasked with putting him out of business that now has a minor roll within the same franchise group. He’s smothered her with kindness. As a bystander, Karma can be sweet.
  2. An example of UK redundancy law is my partner. My partners branch of Travel Agency was closing due to non agreement in a renewal of branch lease. They did everything they could to keep my partner but because he requested redundancy and they couldn’t provide similar terms it was his choice. He walked away with 19k and opened his own travel agency. His previous employer set up an active campaign to run a loss making branch close to him to put him out of business. Thomas Cook luckily went under in Sept 19 on his Birthday. Some of those 30 year+ employees left with only 5k. He has employed every one of those previous employees and is about to open his second shop.
  3. That’s unbelievable. Over here (UK) if you made a person redundant and employed another in the same or similar role you’d be fined out of business.
  4. I’m sorry to hear that you succumbed to the seduction of those Bagels Jeff. They are such temptresses. That could have landed you in a lot of hot water! Luckily for us it was on the way home from the west end clubs (I lived in Victoria Docks by then) and I remember queues out of the door at 4am. It was always salt beef, gherkin, mustard for me occasionally with an egg and onion or a chopped liver as a backup. I Never went for the herring and don’t regret it to this day.
  5. I’ve a Victorian vine, c1850, here that somehow takes tips from Audrey 11 from the little shop of horrors. The grapes are huge with an abundance of pips. We often machete it but it never loses heart. They don’t sweeten every year (the climate of North Wales can be a little melancholy) but I have successfully made wine in good years. If anybody wants cuttings from a 170 year old vine that Putin would have a job getting to die back a bit then let me know.
  6. Have you ever thought about booking through Pam Ann’s one world alliance?
  7. Don’t you have any real laws over there? If somebody was made redundant in the uk it would have to be proved that the position no longer existed. If somebody less senior was brought in to fulfill the role then the company would be hung out to dry with huge fines.
  8. In the 90s the Jewish vibe around Brick Lane was still very evident. The fabric merchants, bagel bakeries and so on. It was a time of change though as the Jewish community moved further North and many more Bengali eateries started to open. I’ve had many authentic Bengali meals in Brick Lane in some truly fine places. I’ve also had some awful ones. Time, unfortunately, has fogged any recommendations from my mind but the advice of joining the longest queue for food always stands. I Don’t think there was a single Indian Restaurant on Brick Lane when I last visited, they are very, very few and far between in the UK. I Just hope that the remaining Jewish element there holds strong as one of the finest post clubbing gastronomical delights (the salt beef bagel) available anywhere in the world still lives on.
  9. Hi Lois, I was in an infinite verandah not a sunset so I’m not sure what they’d have, I had 2 upright chairs and a coffee table in mine. I Found very little to complain about myself. I’m sure you’ll have a great time. 😁

  11. The Hard Rock was my local when I first moved to London in 89. It was fantastic. I lived 100 yards from Hyde Park Corner at the time. What a place to be 18!
  12. I’ve wondered about this previously. Certainly within the Uk and the EU they would be fully liable if any part of the service failed or caused a loss under the package travel and linked arrangements act 2018 and wouldn’t have a leg to stand on. It’s such a shame that they can’t find a better partner. Emirates seem to have it off to a tee with their partners. SS need to play hardball with Blacklane, who in turn need to play hardball with their service providers. Tighten up those contracts and if that driver just chooses not to turn up then he’s paying for all consequential losses. Blacklane fail to provide the service then they’re paying. That would sort the wheat from the chaff. Get the contracts right and you don’t need to absolve yourself of any responsibility for not providing a service that has been paid for as part of a “luxury” package.
  13. Sounds like a golden opportunity for any adrenaline junky to savour every last moment of their holiday with a race and a chase against a deadline. If you enjoy the thrill of the race and don’t mind having to pay twice for your flights then go for it. Otherwise, enjoy a nice breakfast, a leisurely transfer and a flight you’re likely to make.
  14. It does sound to me the way that you would pronounce it if you were a guest of Wentworth (under Mrs Davidson's watch, (my 2nd favourite teenage pastime) not this modern version.
  15. Agadir certainly sounds like it’s improved since our visits there in 2003/4. Back then you could smell the port a good 3 nautical miles before docking and we really believed that we were going to be murdered by our Taxi driver before we ever got out of the Port. Maybe your motorcade showed you a different Agadir to the one that we saw. Enjoy the delusion.
  16. I Suppose after Lincolnshire, anywhere with a little undulation might be a welcome relief. Have you ever tried Madeira (either the Island or the drink? I Like both) Here in Wales it is thought that the reason that many Welsh people are born with one leg shorter than the other is a direct result of the number of contour lines printed on maps, a curious side effect of topography. I'm Glad you got your packing sorted. Looking forward to hearing about your trip. Wishing you a smooth sailing and a fabulous time. May the road rise up to meet you.
  17. Bloody poor people. They get everywhere these days. I’m so sorry that your fellow passengers are not up to muster Fletch. It’s a real shame that they aren’t as witty or intelligent as you. I Do sincerely hope that one day you are able to take a holiday that you actually enjoy.
  18. Fingers crossed. As a survivor of the inaugural Spirit post stretch cruise I hope that they remembered to order batteries for safes and remotes, have lights in the suites, have all the modern stuff like phones and TVs working, open all of the venues and don’t make you wait in the searing heat for an hour for a tender whilst the CEO and Head of Marketing are whisked to inspect their latest triumph. #neversailaninaugralagain
  19. Conwy Valley lamb is superb too Jeff. It’s not a salt marsh but the flood plain floods with seawater regularly and the grass in the Valley here is really rich.
  20. That reminds me of the mysterious man that I found in my cabin on a Nile cruise.
