I read this thread yesterday and I'm still laughing at the "active seniors don't eat that early" line.

I am 65 and simply have no idea how being "senior" or "active" has anything to do with when you eat.

Agree with you;  go figure.  We eat when we get hungry.  Don't really care what time it is

I'm with you on that one. I did our OR setup a few weeks ago for our trip on the Royal next week, and purposely did not scan the passport MRZ data in as it allowed us to do. We're resigned to having to enter our passport info on the Personalizer when we do the Check In, so Princess do have the necessary data, but scanning the passport MRZ image into OR was a bit too much for us. It certainly did not demand the info, and we have to check in at the port anyway to pick up our Medallions, so we'll see this Saturday whether it affects the boarding. I doubt it will.

No big deal;  you still have to show passport to port security

  3. I believe you can still fly into LGA; which is the closest airport to downtown Manhattan;  and there are several car services that will transport you into the city.  If you fly into EWR or JFK; whatever car service you choose will charge for additional tolls such as bridges and tunnels.  I do not believe there are any additional fees to travel from LGA to Manhattan..  There will be several other people who live in NY that may be able to give you better advice.  I have flown into all three airports; and LGA is my personal preference.

I agree that 5pm works for some people.  However, they have had an early 1st seating at 5 or 5:15 pm and a later 5:45 or 6pm for several years.  The early one was in a AT dining room, and the 6pm was in the main TD dining room--that's the one that has been eliminated.  I've read that the rationale was that there were so many people waiting at the door for the mdr to open so they assumed passengers wanted to eat early.  There will always be a group of people waiting in line to get in no matter what time dinner is served; that's just their normal way of doing things.

We love the ambiance of td with the same waiter and table every night, and we're not big fans of the early dining times.

I get it;  no matter what time you eat;  have fun and enjoy your cruise experience.  We have fun with kids without kids, early dining or eating in buffet.  Not a issue for us.  We just enjoy being on a cruise from time to time.  Happy Easter

  5. Iamcruizin,  If you sail the Princess ships that have medallion net wifi; currently there are four ships with this service;  you can stream netflix and such.  the cost is $59.99 for seven day cruise.  I used this service on my feb cruise.  I was able to stream our Sunday church service back home with no buffering.  Happy Easter

This is very interesting.  We were discussing NCL Bliss or a Princess Alaska cruise.

We had already specifically ruled out the Royal Princess because Princess did not see fit to provide forward viewing for the majority of its passengers.  It also did not see fit to provide a traditional outdoor promenade deck.  NCL Bliss has enough regard for all its passengers to provide them with forward viewing AND a lovely outdoor promenade deck...two promenade decks actually (and the worst one still beats Royal Princess’ so-called promenade deck.). I don’t want to go all the way to Glacier Bay and have to struggle to view it clearly!

Now I see there are even potentially more serious problems with the Royal in Alaska.  It looks like we’d need to be prepared to skip Ketchikan.

This report raises so many questions.  Why did Princess feel the need for a non-disclosure agreement, when the other cruise lines did not?  This is a troubling question. Does the pilots’ report create liability for Princess if they take Royal to Alaska and an incident occurs?  In light of any potential liability, would Princess voluntarily decide not to sail Royal in Alaska?  Will scheduled cruises be canceled?

I was on Emerald Princess to Alaska in 2017.  This ship has a front viewing area and it has a promenade deck.  There are other Princess ships that sail to Alaska besides Royal;  you may want to look at one of the other ships; that will have better viewing areas.  Princess does an excellent job of providing service on their Alaska cruises

  7. Some guests have kids and grandkids;  such as myself.  The 5:15 or 5:30 early seating is perfect for us;  the kids eat then can go to kids club until bedtime; and we get to roam the ship for the evening.  You will get a free lanyard with your medallion;  we got one shipped with our medallion in Feb. You also have the choice of anytime dining in one of the dining rooms.

vent? - where did that come from ???

and since you opened the door ... what were the exact circumstances which your cruise was cancelled 2 days prior?

did you get a full refund , future cruise credit ???

RE-READ the opening statement ... that's what this thread is/was about - not me ...

voljeep, maybe you took my reply differently;  you seem overly worried about CB not coming out of drydock; like I mentioned there is nothing you can do about that.  Secondly I never said cruse cancelled.  I said trip cancelled.  I was headed down south and a hurricane hit.  I got a call from  Delta and Hilton; Delta said they would not be flying into the city I was going to because of the Hurricane, and Hilton said the Hotel was flooded.  So I asked Delta if they would not charge me to change my ticket to another city and they said they would gladly book me to another city.  So I went on vacation but ended up in a different city than planned.  This was two days prior to leaving .  Sorry if I came across as not caring.  I love everyone on the forum.  I have learned so much and got a lot of inside information from these threads.  Happy Easter

Dry dock/wet dock ?...what does this mean? What are they doing?  Upgrades to rooms? I see they are doing mechanical work. Is the ship in that rough of shape? Thanks for sharing.

This ship has had a problem with one of the engine propellers for over two years.  They are replacing it and that takes some time.  Long overdue;  The ship has not been able to maintain max speed for several years;  port of calls have been cut back by 30 min due to the ship not being able to sail at full power. How do I know this;  I was on this ship in Feb.  Everyone of our port times was shortened by 30 minutes; so the ship could make it to the next stop at a slower speed
