  1. Good morning, everyone! We didn't get as much snow as they promised, but that is ok. It will be on the ground for a couple of days, but the driveway and road is clear. Sue should have no trouble picking up River. My plan is to hit the gym and then do some work around the house. I got the vacuum out yesterday and started straightening things in the kitchen. I threw out stuff that we hadn't looked at in over a year and found places to store things that had been sitting on the counter. Clutter is no issue to Sue, but I can't stand it. @seagarsmoker Today's meal sounds really good. It is low carb and gluten free. It sounds flavorful and I like that. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/7923336/cheesy-portobello-chicken-cutlets-with-broccoli/ This one is a bit different as they make up the chicken and broccoli mixture and stuff the portabella mushrooms with it. https://sumptuousliving.net/healthy-chicken-and-broccoli-stuffed-portabella-mushrooms-2/ This one calls for regular mushrooms, but you could easily use portabella. Or Baby Bellas. https://realhousemoms.com/creamy-broccoli-and-mushroom-chicken/ I think we'll be having one of these recipes next week. Tonight I am making the chicken cacciatore from last week. Wishing you all a wonderful day.
  2. @JazzyV Vanessa, while no one wants surgery, I am glad that there is a plan forward to help you. Your situation has gone on way too long. You can be sure that all the Dailyites will be reaching out to hold your hand during surgery and during your recovery. What a horrible event in Moscow. I am so saddened by what is happening. @Haljo1935 I was relieved to read that while his injuries were critical, the firefighter was stable and progressing in a favorable manner. Let's continue to pray for his full recovery.
  3. Oh, wow! I was really hoping for a better day today, but the news has not been good. Healing thoughts go out to Princess Catherine and condolences to the crew of the Nieuw Amsterdam and the families of the deceased crew members. What a horrible accident! It is still snowing here, but is supposed to stop around 7 pm. We have rescheduled Farkle to tomorrow night. Sue should have no problem picking up River as they did not get much snow further north. Tomorrow's forecast is for mostly sunny.
  4. Good morning, everyone! It is a cold and snowy morning here in mid-Michigan. Schools are closed and my water fitness class is cancelled. We may be delaying Farkle till tomorrow if it gets as bad as the forecast promises. The heavy snow is supposed to come this afternoon. What we have now is just playing with us. We're hoping that they are able to clear roads tonight as Sue is heading north to pick up River tomorrow morning. Actually, they are supposed to get less snow up there, so once she gets a bit north she should be ok. I guess today will be popcorn and Netflix. So, we're having dessert for dinner today. Oh, why not? We've been eating healthy stuff like carrots and parsnips and turnips. Time for some fun! A perfect dinner for when you're snowed in watching bad movies all day. What makes it healthy is that they substituted Greek yogurt for the butter in the batter and also for some of the cream cheese in the frosting. And the cream cheese they did use is the light stuff. I don't know how healthy it is, but it looks good! https://www.healthyseasonalrecipes.com/coconut-raspberry-greek-yogurt-layer-cake/ This one is more like a coffee cake and might be appropriate since we're having it for a meal. https://www.twopeasandtheirpod.com/raspberry-coconut-cake-with-coconut-streusel/ This one is paleo and gluten free. I think I'd opt for the first one with real ingredients. https://www.cookedandloved.com/recipes/paleo-raspberry-coconut-cake/ Wishing you all a wonderful day or at least better than yesterday.
  5. Goodness, Annie. I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this.
  6. That is really sad, Roy. This was expected, Vanessa. The next step is to do nerve ablation. If we do that and I can walk distances without the poles, then I don't have the pounding that causes the pain in my neck. It is all related and due mostly to the fact that my shock absorbers (discs) are worn out. I used to use Dreft detergent as it was supposed to be gentle for babies. It has just been lately and I've been lathering up well with lotion today. My scalp itches, too! I use a conditioner that you leave in, hoping that will cut down on the itchiness. I guess I need baby shampoo? I have some CeraVe here. And Eucerin and another one they use in the hospitals. Aquafor. That is interesting, Bill. Thanks for mentioning it. I could keep some on hand for when the other stuff doesn't work. Thanks, Joy! I'm writing all this stuff down. That's different. I'll keep that in mind. Thank you! Oh, my, Joy! Yes, it was a crappy day. I hope tomorrow is better. I think that is the key to whatever you use - put it on right after showering. There was a great body wash that left my skin feeling so great, but I can't find it anymore. Probably too many accidents if it left the shower floor slippery. @kazu I hope the therapy will help. I have scoliosis, arthritis, stenosis, and degenerative disc disease. That last one is described as extensive and severe. Just keep moving!
  7. For mine it turns out that Michigan is not interested in the pension I receive from the Ohio Teachers Retirement System. Ohio refunded what had been paid on that because I wasn't living there. The only thing Michigan cared about was the miniscule annuity payments I was receiving and because that was so little, they declared me extremely low income and returned the taxes I had paid.
  8. What did she recommend for the dry skin? Mine is so dry it feels like I'm getting bitten up. I got up in the middle of the night last night and put lotion on. @RMLincoln State taxes can be a bear. The Michigan return said for those born after 1956 to do one thing and those born before 1952 were to do another. Ok, I was born in 1953. What am I supposed to do? That is why I bundled all mine up and dumped them on the desk of a tax preparer. Now that Ohio and Michigan are straightened out, I will be able to do mine from this point forward.
  9. Good morning, everyone! I have an early PT appointment today. We are supposed to evaluate my progress. I really don't think I've made any. The last time I had to do this they told me that PT often doesn't help people who exercise on a regular basis for this condition. Yesterday's water fitness turned out to be a disappointment. The instructor is a lovely person, but she thought she was teaching interpretive dance, not doing a cardio workout. I barely raised my heart rate and I was freezing cold in the water the whole time. We'll stick with Monday and Friday water fitness and try out Tuesday and Thursday when I drop PT. The off days are the treadmill and weight machines. I was saddened to read of the fire that took the lives of so many family members. I'm sure the community will respond for the mother and children who survived. What a horrible thing to happen. Congratulations to @bennybear's DS on the defense of his master's thesis. I hope there is a treatment path forward for @kazu, @Nickelpenny, and @Haljo1935. @JazzyV I am sorry the pain is returning. I would be on the phone to that doctor immediately. I hope @Vict0riann 's DD has a clearer idea of why the doctor thought surgery was an option. Today's meal is billed as a comfort food. I'll leave it to the rest of you, although I am sure it is really good. I would have to make it with different vegetables, for sure. The cinnamon, allspice, and cloves in this first recipe might remind you of Thanksgiving and pumpkin pie, but that blend works well in savory dishes. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/256499/slow-cooker-braised-beef-with-carrots-turnips/ This next one uses more traditional seasonings and has just a small amount of broth. https://www.primaverakitchen.com/turnip-and-carrot-slow-cooker-beef-stew/ This last recipe uses beer in the broth. The beer would act to tenderize the meat and impart a deep flavor to the stew. https://www.myrecipes.com/recipe/beer-braised-beef-with-onion-carrot-turnips Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  10. Good morning, everyone! It is going to be downright cold today with a high of only 30F. At least we are supposed to get some sun today. That part will be good. March seems to be confused here in mid-Michigan as it came in like a lamb and is going out like a lion. Oh, well, in a few months we'll be complaining about heat. I have water fitness this morning and then this afternoon we are making a run to donate some clothes and lamps to the store that supports Shelterhouse, a refuge for battered women and children. I also have to drop off DS Barb's and DBIL Rob's brackets to DB Jeff. Barb emailed them to me late last night and I spent till midnight trying to print them out so they were readable. Fun, fun, fun. The quiche does sound good. We will have it some night for dinner, but tonight we still have Beef and Guinness to finish off. This first recipe helps cut calories by using 2% milk and half and half. https://www.skinnytaste.com/crustless-broccoli-cheddar-quiche/ This next one does not cut the calories and uses the full heavy cream in the recipe. It also adds shallots to the mix and uses gruyere cheese instead of cheddar. I think that would be a great combination. https://www.onceuponachef.com/recipes/crustless-broccoli-quiche.html This last one adds in onion and garlic, favorites of mine, and does cut the fat by using a reduced fat milk instead of heavy cream. But, then it adds it back in with the sour cream. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/7922109/crustless-broccoli-cheddar-quiche/ Hope this finds you all well. Wishing for good results for @kazu Jacqui. Also @Nickelpenny Pennie and @Vict0riann's DD. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  11. @Haljo1935 Hugs to you and warm wishes that it all works out for the best for you. You can call Social Security and go over your options on the phone. That is what I did.
  12. I had the same idea about the obituary - not so much to honor her dad, but to point out he did have a daughter he chose to ignore. You are much kinder than I in this circumstance, and probably for the better. Sarah's mom is a sad case. As another poster said, you and Pauline are her real parents. Those people who live next door are just DNA donors.
  13. That is my understanding as well. I didn't claim my social security at first after my 70th birthday and then got a letter from SSA telling me to do so as there was no increased benefit from waiting. @cat shepard I'm happy for your sister that she has a discharge date. I know the two of you will find your pathway, but do remember we are here to lift you up.
  14. Good morning, everyone! No snow overnight, but we could get flurries here in mid-Michigan. No forecast for measurable snow, so I'll rejoice in that. We do have a chance of that on Friday. We all filled out our NCAA brackets and delivered them to DB Jeff. Even our friend Ellamary filled out a bracket. No PT today as it conflicted with our pedicures this afternoon. Priorities! So, I will go to the gym this morning. @StLouisCruisers No problem with the carrots unless they are cooked. I do eat them raw. I eat celery raw, but don't like it cooked. I like celery in things for flavor. I know I am weird. The meal for today sounds good, but I am with Roy and would skip the polenta part. You can have it over pasta or for those of us watching carbs, spaghetti squash. There was a lot of prep work on top of the stove, so one commenter said they should have just finished it stove top. That is always a choice, but make time for the flavors to blend. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/269819/slow-cooker-chicken-cacciatore-with-polenta/ This next one doesn't come with the polenta part, but you could easily add that in if you want. I think the addition of balsamic vinegar is interesting and would help with the depth of flavor. https://www.wellplated.com/slow-cooker-chicken-cacciatore/ This last recipe is a simplified one and should go together quickly! https://www.skinnytaste.com/crock-pot-chicken-cacciatore/ Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  15. Glad everything went well for you and DH as well for @smitty34877 and Tana.
  16. We are glad we could be there for you, Karen. Anytime you need us, just drop on by.
  17. Welcome @YourWorldWithBill! We hope to hear more from you!
  18. Good morning, everyone! We had a light dusting of that white stuff overnight, but it should be gone by noon. It is cold out today! And it will be cold for the next week. We start to warm up again next week. I'm back to the gym today after taking yesterday off. Today is water fitness. Then I have to take Ellamary a copy of the NCAA brackets as she wants to join our little betting group. We each pay $1 and fill out the brackets. DB Jeff takes care of all of it. But, since his printer isn't working, I have to take him his bracket sheet as well. I see we have another Act Happy Day! I'll do my best. We always recycle what we can here. Our recycle bin is filled to the brim while the trash bin is almost empty. The Goddess of Fertility sailed away a long time ago. I'll let her engage with younger folk. The drink sounds good, but awfully sweet. I have never been a fan of pot roast. I think it is because there was always a hidden hunk of fat or gristle in it and as a kid, I hated that. Well, I still don't like biting into gristle. The carrot lovers will enjoy this first one. https://www.theanthonykitchen.com/tak-39-s-pot-roast-roast-beef-recipe/ This one has a few more veggies in it but is also heavy on the carrots. https://www.spendwithpennies.com/perfect-pot-roast/ This one has different seasonings, but it still heavy on the carrots and celery. I don't like cooked celery either. When I put it in soups it has to be chopped very finely so I don't see it. https://www.eatingwell.com/recipe/263579/fork-tender-pot-roast/ We have leftovers for today. There is a choice between ribs and Beef and Guinness Stew. Wishing you all a wonderful day!
  19. Wishing all the cruisers a wonderful time aboard. I have to go make bread for dinner.
  20. Here is the recipe from Darina Allen: Beef and Guinness Stew The one I use is very similar except it doesn't call for carrots. I put the small pearl onions in it along with mushrooms. Otherwise, they are the same as to amounts of stock and Guinness and seasonings. Deb
