  1. OP,

If you look into your roll call (a thread just for people on your sailing) Im sure there would be people on your sailing that would be happy to help you. And probably someone that would volunteer to be on camera duty for you. I know I would in a heart beat (but them, I'm a softy for romance)

If you are not sure how to find your roll call, just give us you sail date and someone will post a link for you.

  2. Received a Miami channel news alert stating that both Fll airport and port Everglades will open on Friday morning. Trash collection is scheduled as well. .

Also read that oasis will operate into port Everglades as scheduled on Saturday

good luck to you the next day or two. Can't imagine sitting and just waiting to see what you will do.

I am watching weather channel and reading all the threads on here. Hoping and praying for the best for everyone. The latest update just showed that the storm stayed a little off the coast around FLL.

(And OP, I am only about an hour south of you, coming your way in a couple weeks for my son to check out UT)

  3. We were pleasantly surprised when we booked our upcoming RCI cruise on the Grandeur and were given a casino rate with substantial savings. We don't gamble that much, but I was fortunate to have a big win on our last RCI cruise. When they finished with my booking and they asked if there was anything else they could do for me, I jokingly said, "How about free drinks in the casino?" She actually told me she would make a note of it, and for me to contact the host. As I said earlier, I don't gamble that much. Has anyone done this? Does the casino really give free drinks on occasion? Just curious if I really might get a free drink or two. (We don't drink enough to entertain the thought of buying a drink package.)

Ok. So seeing more and more of theses types of threads in here

Can someone give me an idea what "not gambling that much" means??

My husband and I have done 5 cruises together and I have done another 5 without him. We gamble every cruise. We have never gotten anything while on board except maybe a free t shirt or two.

So what would get you free drinks? Or something off future cruises??

Do you need to spend $200-300 per night? $800-1000 each night?? More??

We are sailing again in five weeks. And while my hubby decided to do the drinks package for the first time. I'm not a big drinker. But would love to have a couple while sitting at the tables.

  4. Well, announced an hour ago, Port Canaveral will close at Noon tomorrow until Matthew passes by. Miami will be closing at 4 PM tomorrow until the Hurrican passes.

    :(

It looks like the next weeks cruises may very well be cancelled.

So why do these two ports close and not Port Everglades?? Is it more protected?? Just curious

  5. Waterbug:

I don't have an answer to your question, but I just have to ask:

Is there a word missing in your signature, or is it done on purpose?

Got my toes in the water, my ______ in the sand, Not a worry in the world, a pina colada in my hand. Life is good today, life is good today.

Back to our regularly scheduled program.

    Thanks.

Yep, tried to keep it PG. I think when I did it, I put --- in the quote. But maybe it didn't save that way. Anyway, I wish i was in the sand right now!!!

  6. Will be doing the Freedom in November. The first 8 day sailing. So no chance of looking at the compasses before we sail.

Can anyone give me tips or ideas of what most people do when in a port late?? We are in San Juan from 1:30 - 9:00 PM. We have sailed out of San Juan 4 times, but never been there on a port stop. I know we will dock right in the middle of town. We don't have any actually plans, but will probably walk around a little and maybe take the shuttle out to the forts.

But what will the schedule be on board at night?? Assume we will go back to dine. But do most people go back off the ship at dinner??

Is the entertainment schedule altered since lots of people not on board? Or do they kinda delay most shows/etc till all aboard??

Just seeking some insight to what most people do.

    Thanks

  7. The soda package is the same price either purchasing it before the cruise or on the cruise.

Buying the Internet by the day is expensive as the rate for a single 24 hour period is about double the daily rate when it is purchased for the week.

So does anyone have these rates??

Like the OP. I may only want internet a couple of the days. Trying to find the break even point.

We have one sea day. Then Labadee. So would be without internet those two days.

Then we have San Juan. Could check in at home there (since its free)

Then St. Maarten. Been there before and get free wifi at the bars. Same with the next day at St. Kitts.

The last two days are at sea. I may want to buy the internet just those two days depending on the price.

  8. I got called a really really bad name, when I listened and asked questions for about 15 min on a extended warranty on a vehicle.

I has transferred "up the chain" four times to the manager who was ready to take my credit card number for payment.

The bad name was when I asked him, how if he knew my name, phone number and the VIN number on my vehicle. How did he not know it was totaled in an accident two years ago. OOPS

  9. I had a similar problem last cruise. If TA doesn't have an answer, wait a few days and try again. If I recall they were to be available about 45 days prior to the cruise. When I had a problem they were about a day late or so... but eventually I was able to print them out.

By the way, I purchased plastic cruise luggage tags online. They help prevent the tags from being torn off. Just thought I would mention that.

Yep!!!. Just got mine from amazon and I love them. They even come with a metal ring that you screw shut after attaching to the suitcase handle. Bought them for gifts for the couples we are traveling with.

  10. check out the site florida rambler . com. Its a great site for mile by mile information on the drive to thru the keys.

We used this site a couple years ago when we did the Keys. Just a note though, not sure where you are staying. We stayed in Key West and then in Marathon for what was suppose to be two more nights. We ended up only staying one night. There is basically no nightlife that we found. Not even a movie theater. Now if you are with a group and make your own fun, then no problem. But it was just hubby and I and we really didn't find anything to do past 8PM.

We canc the second night in Marathon and headed back to FLL.

  11. Uber is allowed at both Port Everglades and FLL. As mentioned previously, with 5 passengers plus bags you will need Uber XL - or split up into two Ubers or two cabs if you don't wan tot wait for an SUV/mini-van taxi.

When using a taxi I always take a picture of the cab # and driver info; if questioned I mention that it is "Just in case I forget something." Knowing that you have a record of the trip should encourage most drivers to treat you honestly.

    Have a good cruise!

So can you request an Uberxl that will accommodate 6 people with luggage???

Even the xl on the uber website shows it to be just a standard suv.

  12. OK, this isn't an emergency. Just something that is driving me crazy.

We sail in 48 days on the Freedom.

Others on my roll call are doing the document dance. And they are printing luggage tags. But I am not getting the tab for either??

Does this have anything to do with when we booked?? That we booked with a TA??

Or is it just Royal's crazy IT department??? Wouldn't everyone on the same sailing be able to print forms at the same time???

  13. We have a small rolling Vera bag that I use just for this purpose.

Put my wine and a change of clothes and swimming suit in it. Put some soda in it in the past, but doing soda package this time. So won't have to.

It rolls really nice and its really large. Just roll it to lunch with me and normally till we are done eating, we can get into the rooms. Then it goes in there.

  14. When will you be staying here? The water taxi groupon will end in the next couple of weeks. It ends in October and starts up again in early summer.

You had me a little nervous there. I did the groupon and my tickets are good thru Nov. 15. We will be using them on Nov. 11th. Had to pull out the paper ticket I printed and make sure I didn't mess up. Got them for $13 pp.

We have done the water taxi many many times. May have to check out the competition the next time. Guess whichever company runs the best deal!!

  15. My son was pickpocketed a few years ago and got his phone, id, and some money. That's all he had in his pocket. He realized it pretty quickly and we had find my iPhone on it and were able to track whoever stole it for several hours even after we reported it as stolen. It was crazy watching the thief move around the concert venue.

But it was an eye opener for me. We reported it as stolen but never took it off our listing on find my iPhone because it told us if we did the someone could use the phone. About two years after it was stolen it disappeared from our find my iPhone app. Maybe the thief finally figured out how to break it or maybe they destroyed it. Who knows.

It is crazy though Apple, att, whoever, no one is any help trying to prevent service on a stolen phone. So I guess tracking down an owner from a lost phone would be just as hard.

Slightly off topic. But this story reminds me of when my daughter had her purse stolen about 12 or more years ago. She was bar tending in a local bar and someone swiped it from behind the bar.

WE reported it to the police. But of course they just took a report with no hopes of finding. However her and I became our own detectives. We kept calling the phone. One time the guy was dumb enough to answer. So we started tracking the phone calls on the ATT website. (this was before "find my phone") The guy used the phone to make lots of calls. So we in turn started calling all the same numbers on the website. Sometimes making contact, sometimes not. We finally talked to the dad of a friend of the thief. The son was along with the thief when he stole it and didn't want to get into trouble. So he went to the police and turned him in.

Sometime a little detective work goes a long way.

I hope the OP finds a way to locate the owner. I read about finding the IMEI number on a phone and talking to the provider. I assume you have already tried that. Are you keeping the phone charged in case the owner tries calling it??

  16. Very nice review and your pictures are awesome.

Glad to hear that some rooms are still getting the mattress toppers. Seems to be a hot topic here. Some say there is no way you will get one, other say they did. Sounds like a real luck of the draw. Did you request it ahead or just asked your room steward?? Was it an actual mattress topper or just a duvet folded and put on the bed??
