  1. I had a cruise go missing from my planner in November at the very hour I was due to check in and choose my arrival time. I refreshed the page with no luck. I restarted my computer then went back to carnival.com to my planner and voila, there was the cruise listed in my planner.

It's a lousy feeling to see your cruise missing OP and I'm in your corner.

No.  But order it the night before if you don't want to wait for it.

If they let you do this on your recent cruise you were lucky. Two months ago people were being told no pre-ordering the night before and JH confirmed this was correct procedure when he was asked at the time. This may be one of those YMMV things SCPDGTW ( Some Carnival People Don't Get The Word.) 🙂

While that is a great story, I'm a native and been here  in California all my life and cruising just isn't a thing here in California like it is in other places like Florida, especially in Norcal. I've never known anyone who cruised as a vacation, it's the usual Tahoe, Reno, Vegas, Beach towns, Mexico etc. Cruising is still up and coming IMO, plenty of younger folks to market too.

Born and raised in San Diego County here. California will never reach the levels of Florida departures, we know this, no one said it would. You made it sound like the west coast was just beginning to offer cruise vacations. You should look up the Matson Line that was headquartered there in San Fran near you. They served the Hawaii market for nearly 50 years. That's another " great story " as you would put it.

Mexico in the winter is awesome and California is a up and coming market.

I first sailed Carnival from San Pedro in 1989 to the Mexican Riviera. Prior to that Princess sailed the " Love Boat " on the same itinerary from SP. The cruise lines have served the California market for decades. It's been so long in fact they offered skeet shooting from the fantail then so I think you missed the mark with "up and coming."

I don't know - either the capacity figure on GoCCL is wrong or Heald posted wrong figures. Either way, the folks on Radiance right now are seeing what it's like to be on a very full cruise ship!

Before posting the figures from Carnival's fact sheet earlier I checked the sheet for a clue to how recently it had been updated. Shaq's Big Chicken was listed there so we know it had to have been updated since the $200 million overhaul when more cabins were added to the ship.

They found 32 pallets or cribs apparently because she's sailing today with 3905 guests, assuming Heald's figures on Facebook are accurate.

The USCG may want to know of this for it is the authority that establishes maximum capacity based on available seats in lifeboats.

Chengkp75 may be by soon to weigh in 😉

  7. From Carnival website fact sheet for Radiance:

    CRUISE CAPACITY (2 per cabin):
    2,984
    TOTAL GUEST CAPACITY: (Including Uppers):
    3,873

Where are the 32 persons over the max capacity going to sleep? Really 30 persons as JH listed 2 guests from Cleveland.

Also, the 4 day cruises depart on Monday so this is not a 3 day cruise. Still 1,129 guests under the age of 21 some of whom are playing hooky 😉

  8. For a ship doing only 3-4 day cruises I think Radiance is a good fit for Long Beach. She has taken over for the Inspiration and the Imagination on this route.

I like the sleek public room interiors after the $200 million overhaul of Radiance. The two story main dining room and the lido dining room are bright and inviting while the same spaces, Bacchus MDR and lido dining room on Miracle are bat cave dark.

Here Carnival Radiance is seen from the bluff overlooking the town of Avalon on Catalina Island.

Balcony on 6. Family cove could possibly be under the Galley, plus too many kids all the time.

I thought of that too then I looked at deck 6 plan and it has the warehouse arcade, Club O2 and Circle C on it. I think if the cabin is far aft on deck 6 it may be fine. If not, then it's a push between the two decks re: kids and kid related activities.

  10. Yeah, that's a high rate compared to my new booking I made today. I booked a 4 day Baja California cruise on Radiance for December 2024 as a solo in a PT cabin with two portholes for $395.00 incl port fees and taxes and it comes with $50 OBC.

Last I heard it was until 10 or 11 pm. But they were shutting them down before 8pm on the Radiance last month.

Yes, I've read it varies by ship on when the crew get a chance to shut them down at night. Last I heard the machines are open at 11am. On the Vista Class ships, like the Panorama, who really needs soft serve when the far superior gelato is served at every lunch with two different varieties available each day?

Just inside the sliding doors, on either side of the lido buffet.

It's very interesting that Late Night Snacks is back at lido marketplace. Is this accurate or an old copy? That is big news if it's back. Sure it's not fancy but it's something and helps with the pizza hoards.

It's old, Swirls is listed as 24hrs and that's not correct so I'm thinking the late night snacks is outdated info as well.

We are flying into John Wayne Orange County SNA, I hear it’s better then LAX. We land around 5 on Friday so staying near airport instead of fighting the 5:00 traffic. Figure Saturday morning traffic would be easier.

It's 32 miles to the ship, does Carnival offer a shuttle from JW?

I am SO going to see if we can stay on the Queen Mary though... I would LOVE that.  I will have to watch and see if it opens up for bookings!

Not going to happen for years if ever. The City of Long Beach is stuck with it and would like someone to take it over but the future is grim.
