Cool Cruiser (2/15)

  1. Our main criteria for choosing cabin category are location, location, and location...(with cabin size being secondary.) We've booked B3s, an A2 (when they made the change), and a PH1 and 2. Having a butler in the PHs has never been nor will it be a deciding factor. Which is why, for some time, I've suggested that O offer a PH category of the same size and in desirable locations without the services of a butler. I don't think I'd be alone in welcoming such a thing, but sadly, not likely to happen. And as someone said, regarding PHs, while we don't spend all day in the cabin, when we are there, we really appreciate more space and the larger balcony (especially those aft facing!) There will always be exceptions of course, but one of the things we and others have preferred about Oceania is the lack of a 'snob attitude' in all things, so go and enjoy your first without that concern. 😊
  2. We're on the same sailing. According to the current schedule, we'll be in the last two ports in Japan on the 29th and 30th before the crossing. Was not familiar with Golden Week, but not the least bit put off at the prospect. Go with the flow! It'll be fun! (So looking forward to the whole trip!)
  3. Well, you can 'suspect' but you can't know that. And I can't know that anything will change. What I do know and what I was addressing is the fallacy of the 'Why bother?' attitude.
  4. On March 13th, we did a ship's tour (Vista) in Roatan, Honduras. Was our first time using SM credits. We booked what was billed as a 5 hour 'VIP' beach excursion to Turquoise Bay (OS). We arrived to find that on a beach intended to accommodate 300 people, there were in fact around 600 people from multiple ships in port that day. Lots of kids, (read 'screaming'), lots of increasingly drunk folks making fools of themselves, waiting close to 2 hours after ordering for food and drink that were uninspiring to say the least, general disarray and complete disorganization. I could go into greater detail, but you get the picture. Of the 30 or so people on the tour, no one held the guide or any of the employees on the beach responsible. In fact, I'm pretty sure everyone contributed generous gratuities. It was just poorly planned and executed by Oceania and the owners/management of the venue. Upon returning to the ship, I'm sure there were some at DS registering complaints. Later that evening, my husband and I did the same. We described the experience in a very calm but accurate way. When asked if we wanted compensation, we said that wasn't our objective, but rather to inform them of the situation so that hopefully it wouldn't happen again. A couple of days later, we were pleasantly surprised to see that 1/2 the cost of the tour had been credited to our account. The point is that, just as with an unpleasant or unsatisfactory dining experience in one of the restaurants or anything else for that matter, if they don't know about it, nothing changes. And if given the opportunity to make it right, in all or part, Oceania may surprise those doubters who say 'Why bother?'
  5. Riviera & Marina - Deck 7 Pre-2025 Voyages jazznruby replied to FeelingCruisy's topic in Oceania Cruises Yep, the beloved B3s will be A2s. A year ago I booked 7008 for 4/25/25 sailing. New cats. and prices not shown for it yet; but deck plan for next year is showing the change. Once the 'secret's' out, as was the case with aft facing cabins years ago, prices always change to reflect the demand. February 23 9 replies
  6. Would love to know the name of the restaurant you were planning on for lunch. Will be on Vista with a stop in Civitavecchia in November, and hoping for a few hours in Rome. Enjoying your comments. Despite a few hiccups and knowing you're an O first timer, I appreciate your positive outlook. Thanks so much.
  7. That's always been the 'driver' for taking the 'deep dive' into traveling IMNTBHO. Have always felt that cruising is a great way to 'superficially' discover many places in a short window of time. If you see something you like, then ideally, plan a land trip back there and truly experience the place. As much as we love cruising, we've enjoyed our land trips as well. To conflate the two beyond that is pointless. And FWIW, in taking a cursory look at the new itineraries, it does appear that there are some new ports offered. (One that jumped out is Devil's Island, French Guiana. Never thought I'd see it on an O itinerary. We were there many years ago on an R ship with Princess. Will never forget it. Fascinating!)
  8. Wow, thank you for this! Will definitely try to book for pre-cruise April 2025. Looks fascinating!
  9. The $199/pp non-refundable deviation fee is only paid if/when an itinerary is agreed upon and accepted. No fee to 'initiate negotiations'.
