  1. Good Morning! Had a soft crab for dinner last night. Will be at a crab fest on Saturday to celebrate a birthday. We steam our own crabs. Here’s a picture from last year.Love Tortola and the BVIs. Have chartered a catamaran and explored all the islands. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  2. I was teaching high school in Baltimore on 9/11. We weren’t allowed to turn our tvs on.Many of my students had parents who worked in DC. A terrifyingly day for all of us. Thank you to all first responders, on that tragic day and every day. I hope we are able to tender to Stanley in February when I am on the Oosterdam. I have booked a tour with Patrick Watt’s company. Thank you for the pictures. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  3. Thank you for the photos of Amsterdam, a special shout out to @StLouisCruisers who posts wonderful photos almost every day. We will be there in October prior to boarding the Rotterdam for a transatlantic cruise. I guess this is the last year the large cruise ships will depart from there. We have our activities planned including a private canal boat cruise. I actually love the planning aspects of travel. The only thing I haven’t finalized is our meals. @cruising sister I’m definitely going to get some of those fries! We are staying at the Movenpick near the central train station and the pet. Could anyone suggest restaurants for dinner? Sending you peace healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  4. Do I need to complete a “Chile Traveller’s Affidavit”? I found this online. This link explains what the Traveler’s Affidavit for Chile is and how to apply online before your trip. https://www.handyvisas.com/chile-travelers-affidavit/ But I also found this on the link above: Covid Update for Chile Last update: 29/06/2023 “All COVID-19-related entry restrictions for Chile have now been removed.” Does this mean we do not need the ‘Chile Traveller’s Affidavit’? Thank you for your replies.
  5. We were in a Signature Suite on the Oosterdam. My husband kept bumping into the coffee table when he got up during the night. We asked our cabin steward if it could be removed and he kindly removed it,
  6. I think these menus are specific to Alaskan cruises. They really have some nice “local” additions. The menus I am seeing on the Navigator for my TA in October are slightly different. @LAFFNVEGAS Thank you for this thread and the pictures. Quite an enjoyable and positive read!
  7. As a former English teacher and voracious reader, I celebrate Literacy Day. Thank you to all who post port pictures. I will be in Norway next year. @smitty34877 I am very sorry to hear Lou is not doing well. My DH was rushed to the hospital three times during his cancer treatment. Although they were some of our darkest days, he pulled through each time and the sun has been shining on him, cancer free for 8 years. I too am not a formally religious person but I am sending you and all who are experiencing medical issues positive thoughts. Sending everyone on the Daily peace, healing and all good wishes.
  8. My favorite location is aft on deck 8; if available we always book. I love to be so close to the Lido and Seaview pool. As previously stated, there is some noise in the morning when chairs are being arranged around the pool but it has always been after I am awake, usually 8ish. Also in the evening when the chair are being picked up but that is usually when I’m getting ready for dinner. No smell of cigarette smoke. Once on the Zuiderdam we had a bit of “ash” from the ship’s smoke stack on the verandah but it was only one day and was quickly cleaned up by our room steward.
  9. @lcand1923 In addition to the high temperatures in MD the surf has been extremely rough.I love all the butterfly pictures @ottahand7 and the Gandhi quote.Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  10. @LAFFNVEGASI really like these breakfasts from the “International Menu”. My favorite is is the Pan Asian. Just skip the rice if you’re watching your carbs. Nothing like a piece of salmon to keep you full if you have a long excursion.
  11. As a fellow MDer, don’t try the crabcakes. I’m a pescatarian and was talking to the chef at the Pinnacle about what I should order. He said, “the crabcakes.” I said, “I’m from Md. “. He said, “Don’t order the crabcakes.” However, Peruvian chicken was one of my DH’s favorite. Also, he ordered a “veal cutlet” dish but it looked like a veal chop to me and he said it was delicious too.
  12. A popover is more like Yorkshire pudding. Cherry popovers are easy to make and delicious. I like tofu; I pressed it, marinated it and grilled it next to my DH’s steak yesterday. Think of it like mushrooms, it easily absorbs flavors. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  13. @Sharon in AZ We call the recipe you posted corn salsa and use it as a dip for tortilla chips. It is delicious. Also, I am very impressed with your pitas. I am a cook but not a baker. I think it’s because when baking you need to use precise measurements and I rarely measure when I cook.
  14. Good Morning! I enjoy reading memoirs; it’s an opportunity to walk a mile in someone else’s shoes. Here are a few I recommend. Paul Kalanithi, When Breath Becomes Air, a doctor diagnosed with lung cancer. Malala Yousafzai, I Am Malala, human rights and education activist. Cheryl Strayed, Wild, overcoming grief. John Grogan, Marley & Me, dog lovers. Maya Angelou, I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, her young life. Eli Wiesel, Night, the Holocaust. Ta-Nehisi Coates, Between the World and Me, advice for his son about dealing with racism. Keith Richards, Life, rock and roll. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  15. I’m glad you have decided to keep the automatic “ crew appreciation”. I believe you will appreciate how hard the crew works. Here are two other threads with a bit more information about tipping.
  16. Touch a Heart Tuesday was actually yesterday but here on the Daily, we touch a heart everyday. Here were some suggestions to help you celebrate.I’ll happily celebrate beaches. Half Moon Cay. I hope all in the path of the hurricane remain safe. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  17. Nope, but here’s my philosophy…
  18. I appreciate all the wonderful recipes you post Debbie! Kebabs are perfect the perfect summer meal for us; meat for DH, veggie for me. I have used many yellow squash and zucchini on my kebabs this month. I also parboil tiny potatoes and put them on my kebabs. Sometimes, I get lazy and use my grill basket instead Thank you to everyone who posts port pictures. I am lucky enough to be planning for cruises to South America and Norway. The pictures are better than any guidebook. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  19. I am booked on the Rotterdam next August and there are already two replacement ports I have never heard of, Fredrikstand and Farsund. There are currently no HAL excursion in either port. Has anyone been to either of these ports? If so, could you recommend things to do or a private tour.
  20. I am booked on the Rotterdam next August and we are scheduled to visit Flam. I really hope we get to visit. There are already two replacement ports I have never heard of, Fredrikstand and Farsund. There are currently no HAL excursion in either port. Has anyone been to either of these ports? If so, could you recommend things to do or a private tour.
  21. @gregma60 Thank you for your live thread. I’m enjoying your comments. Sorry your “high tea” wasn’t good. Although it is not the same as it used to be, it is still enjoyable on some of HALs ships.
  22. @mafig Have you download d the Navigator App? You can access it there.
  23. My DH loves Westerns. We just read this excellent book about a man who recently rode the trail himself with his two horses. Highly recommended. Sending you peace, healing and all good wishes. May your life be good.
  24. Completing your online documents early has no impact on your assigned boarding time. You may receive a boarding time a few weeks before sailing and then your boarding time may change several times before your official boarding pass with the bar code which you will receive about 3 days before sailing.
