  4. All my pictures of my mother are pre-digital so I finally scanned one. I think this was taken when we celebrated her 90th birthday. She died in 2001 at 98. Roy
  5. There will be a LOT of photos of Lisbon and I'll add just one which is more of a salute. In 2016 I took a string of cruises with 2 transatlantics, over on QM2 and back from Lisbon on Seabourn Odyssey. There was a long gap between the transatlantics which I filled with a Med cruise on Queen Elizabeth. QE's final port of call was Lisbon and I would be traveling by train from Southampton to Lisbon. My hotel boarding Odyssey was the Avenida Palace. I emailed them before leaving home and they agreed to store one of my bags for several days, lightening my load on the train journey. When I arrived they greeted me by name, took the bag, and even offered me breakfast! Roy
  6. oops, that should have been @cruzn single. Roy
  7. I only have one May 8 sunrise. It's from my 2019 Nieuw Statendam/Cunard round trip transatlantic. I slept late May 8 but caught this from my hotel window in Kiel. Roy
  8. Thank you for the Sunday Daily Rich and the sermon, Graham. Happy Mothers Day to all our Dailyite mothers. Irises are beautiful, Red Cross and Red Crescent provide valuable services, and I believe @cruising single plays a valuable role in their work. Victory in Europe is a great event that we need to replicate today in Ukraine. Not sure what to make of the quote. Been to Lisbon many times. I'll pass on the meal. Since I've never actually been on a BHB on a May 8 I'll use a meal from a cruise close to the date. My selection today is Bahamian Spiced Chicken with Yogurt-Cilantro Sauce and Wild Berry Profiteroles, my embarkation lunch on the Nieuw Statendam cruise that ended May 5. 11. No camera issue. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in 2002 and after perhaps 6 months on medication it has been controlled entirely by diet and walking for going on 20 years. For virtually all that time I've been maintaining daily spreadsheets of what I've been eating to plan my meals. Since I started blogging on cruises I've almost always posted menus for each of my cruises on the blogs. My tastes are pretty plain and I never really felt my choices matched the fancy dishes others posted. Readers started asking for photos and I finally succumbed to the request with the little collages in November 2016. I only have the photos for cruises after that date, and have not had a lot of HAL cruises between early May and late July in years since then, so there are no corresponding photos. I get the descriptions I use by comparing my notes on what I ate in days prior to November 2016 with the details on the day's menu. The next date for which I have such a photo taken on a HAL ship is July 18, 2018, although my choices with photos may include my train trip to the cruise. Roy
  12. My May 7 sunrise is from a 2017 Crystal Symphony Panama Canal cruise (San Diego to Miami). On May 7 we visited San Juan del Sur, Nicaragua. Roy

  15. Thank you for the Saturday Daily, Rich. It sounds like we may have a soggy Kentucky Derby today, pretty much matching my weather here and @puppycanducruise will have warmer weather than me today. Herbs, Birth Mothers, and Comics are all great days to celebrate. Monroe's statement is pretty disturbing to me. I visited Tallinn May 26, 2015 on the Elegant Explorer. The meal suggestion sounds interesting but I did not take notice of it when I was in Seoul. My alternative is Fruit Salad with Yogurt and Honey, Orange and Radiccio Salad and Beechers Macaroni and Cheese as served on MS Amsterdam April 21, 2014. Unfortunately , I will have few if any photos to show for quite some time. 16. Strange that they're using a self-injectable drug on patients on ventilators who are presumably unconscious. Glad you at least found something. Roy
  17. Bora Bora is a tender port. You might need that backup plan if tendering conditions change the second day. Roy
  18. Are you willing to share what ship you're on? Oosterdam? Roy
  19. Welcome to posting on the Daily. We are quite a diverse and most of us have never met in person. Between us we have histories with a number of cruise lines including a number of people who have never sailed HAL. My history has been primarily Crystal although I've sailed HAL quite a bit the last 10 years or so. Personally, I've met just a few dailyites, primarily on a 2013 Veendam cruise where I sailed with @Crazy For Cats and @dfish as well as sharing coffee with @kazu when the Veendam docked in Saint John. I've also sailed with @Vict0riann on a Zaandam cruise and technically with @USN59-79 on an Amsterdam world cruise segment although we didn't figure that out until just recently. I think the wide variety of experiences among out group adds a lot of spice to the mixture. Roy
  20. This is probably about as good as it will get. Roy
  21. Getting close but I'm not sure the camera has a way to get past the Splendor to see the Zuiderdam. Roy
  22. Today is Fallen Heroes Day in Maryland. Sadly, we have a bumper crop of 15 this year, 7 of them falling to Covid=19. Roy
  23. I don't have a sunrise for May 6, so this one is from May 7, taken in Amsterdam on an interlude between disembarking Nieuw Statendam and boarding Queen Victoria in Kiel. It was taken at the back of Central Station Roy
