  1. Hi Dave, sorry to hear about your situation. I would contact your practice and explain the situation and that you could lose money. Ask them to bring the appointment forward or see if they can at least give you a telephone consultation. I'm sure they can make exceptions in certain situations. If you don't ask, you don't get is my motto ! Good luck
  2. We once had a late flight and paid extra to keep a cabin until 6pm, it was a different cabin but it was still very useful. I think it cost £30 but that was a few years ago.
  3. The last time we were on Discovery we had Capt Chris, he was great fun with a good sense of humour🙂
  4. Does anyone know who the captain is on Discovery and Discovery 2? Also who is the resident entertainment group? At the moment we can't make our mind up which cruise to book - we are nearly at the dip dip dip stage!
  5. You will need to check your insurance, are you insured as a party or individually? And contact your travel agent or Marella for advice. Hope all is okay - please let us know how you go on.
  6. Olbia is a small town with shops, cafes and a nice marina to walk round. We did this the first time but wanted to see more this time so we left the ship and walked towards the town. As we crossed the grass we saw some buses and people selling tickets for a beach. We took a bus for approx €10 round trip and the journey was around 20 minutes through lovely scenery to Pittulongu beach. It was lovely and there was a cafe and toilets there. We stayed a while and went to catch the next bus back - don't forget to check times. A great day out.
  7. We enjoyed Catania as a port. It's about 10-15 minutes walk to a square with an elephant statue, there are some lovely old buildings and churches to visit. There is great market and there were stalls with little cafes next door where you could choose fish and eat it cooked for you. We walked up the main thoroughfare off the square (think it's called via Etna) and there were lots of shops, cafes and further up there are some Roman ruins. We took a right into one of the small roads and found a lovely traditional bakers where we bought original Sicilian cannoli, absolutely delicious!
  8. You can walk through the town and along the promenade to the end, it's a pleasant walk with a few cafes along the way
  9. Malaga itself us a lovely port and a shame to miss it. Lovely streets to wander and good tapas restaurants.
  10. Not usually unless it's a port that requires you to be taken out by bus
  11. Thanks, I'll look at that. We're looking at October cruises, not really bothered where but just looking for ports we've not visited. The main reason we like Marella is the great variety of ports!
  12. Thank you both for your responses, just starting to look at cruises again. We've decided it's time to take the plunge!
  13. Could someone please advise where the ship docks? Is it actually Barcelona port and is it easily accessible to the town? Thanks
  14. Thanks Dave, really clarifies the situation. Now we can look at booking!
  15. Hi RR,. Thanks for the latest rules, however does the 270 days refer to the original 2 vaccinations plus booster? We had our booster last November and according to our doctor aren't eligible for another until the 'autumn' whenever that might be. This would mean we can't book a cruise in October. Sorry if I'm being a bit thick but need to be clear before booking.
  16. I'm sorry, maybe I misunderstood - so are you saying you suspected you had covid but just carried on as normal then flew home?
  17. Hi Lee, your first cruise - well I can tell you it won't be your last! The first is so exciting and you are bound to get hooked! Dress code: the majority of men wear smart casual in the evening i.e. trousers, shirt, tie optional. On Dress to Impress evening some men like to wear formal wear but its not worn as much as it used to be and does take a lot of room up in your luggage. Ladies do tend to make more of an effort than the men and wear nice dresses either long or short, or smart trousers and tops. In the daytime, anything goes i.e. beachwear, shorts etc although you are expected to wear a cover up in the dining rooms Tips: are included with Marella although it is nice to give a small tip to your cabin steward or any other crew who have made your holiday special Cabin: this really is a personal choice depending on how much you want to pay. Personally we like a balcony cabin but have also had outside cabins which we have liked. Most of the cabins tend to be the same size but, of course, you won't get daylight in an inside cabin. You will have a really good time, we found it so exciting when we just saw the size of the ship on our first cruise! We also found sailaway on the first evening very exciting and, even after many cruises, we are still excited every morning when we dock in a different port. Enjoy!
  18. Can't wait to start cruising again and totally agree with both of you. However I'm one of the 'sandwich' generation - helping with grandchildren but also elderly mother so it's difficult getting away. Determined to go away later in the year though, think the bargains will be on for a while Enjoy your cruises!
  19. We did a b2b cruise in early October 2019, western med and eastern med. The weather was lovely, warm but not too hot. We only had rain in Zakynthos but that island is quite north for that time if year. Hope you have a wonderful time
  20. Great to hear a positive review, hopefully things are getting back to how they were. Think the time is right for me to start looking again!
  21. The Caribbean is the easiest place to do DIY trips. At each port there will be lots of taxis waiting (usually mini buses so perfect for all your group). The drivers will show you a map of the places they will take you and charge around $20 per head, you don't pay until they drop you back at the ship. They are reliable and will get you back to the ship in plenty of time. Enjoy your cruise.
