  1. Thank you @BklynBoy8! This was another unknown for us! That’s in part why we took the Cunard hotel/transfers this time…Just wanted to have less things to worry about, and have Cunard manage those for us. And this is also why I will do Luggage Forward 2 weeks ahead, as I don’t want to wrestle with my big suitcases of gowns and cocktail dresses (huge draw for us….the dress code on Cunard, which I am super excited about)!!

  2. On this topic, we took a hotel package from Cunard that includes porterage and transfers to Red Hook…does that mean that Cunard will pick the time? And will it be later? With another cruiseline, we took that type of  transfer only once, as we ended up boarding at about 3pm. We are sailing QG (Q5), in case this might make a difference. Thank you in advance for your insights!

  3. Silly question (first time Cunarder next fall,): if we use the Luggage Forward Service, do we still use those luggage tags? Thank you in advance!

  4. We are on M430 next fall on QM2 in QG. My TA checked with Cunard and this is what she sent me: « Your current package will include the drinks up to $13.50 per drink. It was also explained to me that if you purchase a drink that is over the cost of $13.50 you will pay the full cost of the drink minus a 20% discount since you have the drink package. »

The 20% is news to me, but I won’t object if that is the case! 😀

  5. @exlondoner @seasickphil @BklynBoy8 @alc13 @shippmates @Pushpit thank you for taking the time to share your insights! Based on what I read about Halifax, there is plenty to do in town, nearby. I think this is what we’ll do. We recently saw a documentary about the 2 ships collision in 1917 that triggered a huge explosion/fire in the Harbor and its vicinity, and that makes us even more interested in walking around! As for Sept Iles, I will do a bit more research. I know it’s still a year away, but I’ve been waiting for over 5 years to go onboard QM2 (we booked in 2018 a crossing for 2020 that we postponed twice), so 1 year is just around the corner! Very excited and grateful that I get to experience this Grande Dame of ocean crossing!! 😀

  6. @TowandaUK @BklynBoy8 @TheOldBear my heartfelt thanks for your replies! As a newbie, I am so grateful that I get to read about your personal experiences and benefit from the collective knowledge of this community!

So based on what I read, Cunard may add some other excusions over time? Would CruiseCritic somewhere post reviews of excursions (like they do for ships’ reviews)? Or go to TripAdvisor? I’m trying to figure out which excursions might be interesting in both Halifax and Sept-Iles.

    thank you again!!

  7. Greetings Cunard Community!

DH and I are taking our first ever Cunard cruise in September 2024, after several COVID-related postponements. We booked a Q5 for the New-England Canada cruise in Sept 2024. We are beyond excited! So here’s my question: according to MyCunard, I can book excursions in about 2 weeks time. Where do I find details about available excursions? I researched the site and was unsuccessful.

thank you in advance for your insights/guidance!

  8. We just booked voyage M327, West bound TA, QG deck 9, Sept 4-11 2023. This will be our first time ever on Cunard and our third attempt at sailing on QM2, after our June 2020 and October 2021 cancelled cruises.

  9. My husband and I are booked on M133 in October 2021 (postponing the June 2020  Soton-Le Havre-NYC transatlantic we were supposed to take). I will be reaching out to our travel agent this week and figure out what will happen. I will post updates, if/when I have them. All we have at risk is our original deposit (Q6 room).

  10. Instead of rebooking a westbound TA (original trip), we decided to hedge our bets (if we get sick) and rebook a cruise from NY-Quebec in October 2021.  We have never been on a Cunard cruise, and we're not sure how the "new normal" is going to look like. That being said, we are excited about boarding on the majestic QM2.

  11. We cancelled our westbound TA on March 3. It was our first cruise on Cunard and we were booked in a Queens Grill stateroom. We received a cancellation from Cunard on March 10. We applied our initial deposit to a future cruise (Oct 2021) and had the remainder (USD $11K) refunded against our credit card.  After 90 days and being promised multiple times that our refund was coming in soon (last promised date was Friday June 5), I lost patience and filed a dispute with my credit card issuer earlier this week. The reason for disputing the charge was: never received the goods/services. I tried everything I could to resolve the issue directly with Cunard, but I got tired of the constant run around.

Within 1 business day, the charge was reversed (albeit as a conditional credit), and now Cunard has to deal with my bank. The strangest thing is that Cunard did promptly refund a $144 excursion that I had booked for the port of Honfleur (less than 30 days).

    Go figure.

I'm glad it is behind me. I was beginning to despair whether I would ever get a refund.

  12. Just off the phone with Cunard and my TA.  They did not want to move my future cruise deposit ($3100) for the cancelled cruise against another deposit for a future reservation. In order to reserve for the voyage I had selected (NY-Quebec, October 2021 -M133), Cunard requested that I pay a cash deposit (about $2.5K for a Q5), and then apply the $3K to the balance that I would owe in June of 2021.  So basically I would pay for about 50% of a cruise to happen in 1.5 year.

While it is Cunard's prerogative to offer this solution, their competition is a lot more flexible. So I resolved to cancel everything, and *maybe* (in the near future), book a last minute cruise with the credit. I say "maybe" because right now I am not happy with Cunard and I don't see why I would reward their behavior with my custom. All I want is my $11K refund. And chalk this to my "lessons learned" filing cabinet (filled up at this point!).

Can you post a link or origin for this?

Given that one of the main stays of Cunard business and many people on the Cunard boards discussions is around the TAs, you can't just chuck a statement out like that not say where it has come from.

President Trump, .2 min ago on national TV in the US. . No more flights from EU as of Friday for the next 30 days. UK not impacted for the time being. Situation periodically reassessed.

Your father is at risk for sure. Both early 40s, we are not fearing the virus itself, its the quarantine we don't want !!!! this was going to be our first cruise on Cunard, we were looking forward to this crossing but the way Cunard is handling this disaster, no way, never again Cunard, will stick with  Holland in the future

Eric, that's exactly what I'm worried about....I personally cannot afford the risk of a 2 week quarantine on top of an 8 days crossing. Even if I had access to a great internet connection (!!) it would still be very difficult to work remotely.  I wished Cunard would accept to simply postpone my cruise...I would be willing to do that, but to penalize me by losing half of our original $3k deposit ($1550) is very short sighted.  And to think that I cancelled a cruise on the new Regent's Splendor to try the Grills....ohwell. C'est la vie.

  15. In my opinion, this advisory might imply that if I choose to cruise and the ship is quarantined in some port across the world, the US gov’t might not be so inclined to evacuate me and quarantine me at a US military base...(“we told you so”). Of course this would exclude those already at sea.

I also believe a FCC under these circumstances is not proper.

I agree with Hypercafe, it would be difficult to exclusively provide for FCC, under the circumstances. The next weeks are going to be  challenging, particularly  for any fledging cruise line or cruise lines that just launched new ships in service.

i again checked the Cunard website this morning (US time) and did not see any update on cancellation policy.

  16. It’s official...the US State Dept has issued tonight a travel advisory on cruise travel, along the lines of CDC’s recommendation:

    Passengers on Cruise Ships

U.S. citizens, particularly travelers with underlying health conditions, should not travel by cruise ship.  CDC notes increased risk of infection of COVID-19 in a cruise ship environment. In order to curb the spread of COVID-19, many countries have implemented strict screening procedures that have denied port entry rights to ships and prevented passengers from disembarking.  In some cases, local authorities have permitted disembarkation but subjected passengers to local quarantine procedures.  While the U.S. government has evacuated some cruise ship passengers in recent weeks, repatriation flights should not be relied upon as an option for U.S. citizens under the potential risk of quarantine by local authorities.

This is a fluid situation.  CDC notes that older adults and travelers with underlying health issues should avoid situations that put them at increased risk for more severe disease.  This entails avoiding crowded places, avoiding non-essential travel such as long plane trips, and especially avoiding embarking on cruise ships.  Passengers with plans to travel by cruise ship should contact their cruise line companies directly for further information and continue to monitor the Travel.state.gov website and see the latest information from the CDC: https://www.cdc.gov/quarantine/cruise/index.html

Also, there is a very good article from the Miami Herald on this recent advisory: https://www.miamiherald.com/news/business/tourism-cruises/article241013416.html
