Celebrity often has better rates for solo travellers than Royal and they have single edge veranda rooms on Edge class ships. Look e.g. into Ascent in June 2025.

I’m in a solo veranda on the Edge in May. It was cheaper than a regular interior cabin. I’m looking forward to it and it’s my first Celebrity cruise. I’m not concerned about getting points on Celebrity since I go over as Elite any way because of Royal points.

  2. I don’t belong to that other sight for reasons mentioned, plus it’s just not very private, and I like to keep my life private. And for me personally, I enjoy less people.

Most of my roll calls on Cruise Critic for unique cruises are pretty active, but I’m wondering since the OP is from Australia, if a cruise that doesn’t originate or end in the US, like a TP, just doesn’t draw as many Cruise Critic folks.

I’m on the Panorama in Oct. from Singapore to Long Beach and it’s been pretty active.

I sailed the Splendor from Long Beach to Sydney back in 2019, and we had a pretty active Roll Call then also.

  3. I have the solo discount now, and I always book interiors. I have been on the Ovation multiple times, but no other Quantum class, so I can see me eventually booking a B2B or more. My daughter and granddaughter are in San Diego, so it would be an easy family cruise. She hasn’t been on a Quantum class ship yet, so an alternative besides Navigator would be an option. Plus, no flights for her, and I could extend a cruise to a visit to San Diego too.

  4. I have been cruising for 44 years, and I’m starting to wind down. I’m a solo cruiser, and for me at this point, it’s all about itinerary. I have never been loyal to a cruise line, but I did focus on Royal the last few years to get to the 340 mark, which I did. I  have 3 different cruise lines booked through Spring of 2025. I’m not really sure what the future holds for me. As I’ve gotten older, I do enjoy being a homebody. If the right itinerary comes along, and the price fits in my wheelhouse, I may be enticed.

Yep.  That's California cruising for you.

It's hard to make anything out of LA exciting.

I think  a B2B or more would be OK for Westcoasters that really only wanted the ship experience. There are people in Florida and Texas who do short cruises over and over to the same places. This really would be no different. How many don’t even get off the ship in Nassau anymore? And I can see people on the left side doing some of these to accumulate points too.

I love the Quantum class, and would look into doing the Quantum out of LA, especially now that I have my solo discount.

@Cruiselyne  that’s a great deal.  We couldn’t get lower than 35% off for our may cruise on the jewel

If that Jewel sailing is a longer than a 7 day cruise, those will usually be less, but you’re paying for more days, so it all evens out. I doubt 7 day cruises will ever get that low again.

Question: How many time zones did you have to go through for this cruise?

    Hey there,

I have done several TP’s and another one coming up in Oct. I have no clue how many actual time zones it is. When you cross the International Dateline, you skip a whole day going over, and repeat a day coming back to the US. It is very confusing…LOL

I just did the 5 legs from Sydney to Seattle on Ovation last March. I should have made note of all the time changes.

I’ve just heard via TikTok would you believe, that the Serenade is going around Africa (as expected, so no surprise), but that guests on the World cruise are going to vote on options, of which there are two!!

There’s been a lot of talk already about it on the World Cruise thread, from those on the ship.

I was surprised to find a kettle in my cabin! I had thought those were only on sailings from Southampton. I’ll have to grab some tea bags!

They always had them on my Alaska sailings on Ovation,  but last year coming from Sydney, they started removing them once we hit Hawaii. I had a great cabin attendant and she left mine, since I was on 2 more legs. They do come in handy for really early morning wakeups, when you don’t want to get dressed and look for coffee and tea.

    Have fun!

Very chilly out, and seas a bit rough with higher winds again

Seas are usually rougher going north on the west coast. And they have had some serious weather lately in Southern Calif. I was going to mention the seas before, but I figured since you dealt with much worse around Antarctica, that this would seem pretty calm. 😬 My daughter is in San Diego, and she says people down there are now realizing just how many roof leaks they have with all the rain. I guess it’s good for the roofing companies.

Safe travels home and thank you for keeping us all updated on your journey. Very much appreciated.

We just got our latest block on Wonder a couple of weeks ago.  When we boarded, there was a form that we had to fill out.  Basically it said whether we wanted it or not and if we didn't claim it, we couldn't get it later.  It was delivered to our cabin.  We now have 7 (should have 8 but gave one away as it was a duplicate).  This was the first new colored one we've received.  They are no longer mailing them.  Either you get it on the cruise it's offered on, or according to the form, you don't get it.

Glad you got one. I never did receive my Wonder block from Oct./2022 cruise. Oh well, win some, lose some. I did fill out a form on the cruise, as they were out, but it was never mailed either. Guess it won’t be now.

New "Voyager" class? That makes zero sense. Did you mis-type or did they mis-speak?

Oasis, could be talking about Utopia or even a 7th (maybe?)

Icon - They could be referring to yet unnamed Icon 3.

Project discovery? It would have to be closer to the Voyager size,

There has been talk/ rumors about building another smaller ship. I had heard about it about a month or so ago.

Weather in Cabo looks good for tomorrow.  Hopefully get to actually take a tender to port.  😉  We lowly quarterly subjects required to collect tender tickets in Safari lounge this afternoon.  😉

70 degrees, cloudy, with light winds.  Ahhh...perfect!  No tour scheduled, we plan on just walking around to enjoy the port city (we love Mexico)...and have a few subjects lined up to check out for a lunch spot.  🤗

I don’t know if he is still open, but Gordo Leles was my go to spot to eat in Cabo. I had heard he had some medical issues.  He’s just a block up from Cabo Wabo and is a cheap authentic place to get tacos. I stay away from touristy places. His little place is decorated with Beatles posters and if you’re lucky, Javier may sing for you. His place will come up on Google Maps.

What is the difference between check-in time and boarding time?

You don’t get a board time when fill out the info online. But if you are one of the earliest  check in times, there may a slight wait before you board. But if you choose a check in time after the ship has started boarding, you will walk right on.

That's the whole "ride"  just that little bit?  Or is there more to it?  I can't imagine paying $90 for a quick swing about.

I think I read the price was lowered to $39 for port days, and maybe a bit more for sea days. No more $90. I read it elsewhere, so maybe someone can check that’s on board.
