Some people cruise just to cruise and don't care about the ports/itinerary (yours truly included). West coast cruise options are very limited. I 100% understand the need to just book a cruise to get away for a weekend

I agree, and for those that don’t have to fly, it’s a good way to build up points. Some people in Florida do the same short cruises over and over to the same destinations.

  2. There is a refundable choice (more expensive), but you have to go through the booking page, filling out traveler info, and the last page will offer things like prepaid gratuities, dining, refundable fare, etc. Suites are non refundable.

If you cancel on an NR fare, you lose $100pp, and the rest will be held for another booking. If you choose not to rebook another cruise, you lose full deposit.

It just seems odd that one can't get into the My Time dining room until 6:45 p.m., which it the earliest time it let me book on the app.

Many have had luck (I know 2 personal situations) going to dining room about 6-6:15 and seeing if you can be seated. They backfill empty tables from early traditional. They don’t have a separate dining room anymore.

Every Anthem cruise I have been on has a kettle in the cabin.   Maybe bring your own instant coffee to make in cabin or you can order free continental breakfast with coffee, no room service fee.

I have sailed the Ovation numerous times and there were always kettles in the cabin. Last year coming from Australia (B5B), they were on the first 3 legs until we got to Hawaii and they started removing them. My stewardess left mine since I was on for 2 more legs and I asked. It seems like such a waste of time to remove and put back depending on where they’re sailing to and from.

If my companion and I have two devices total (an iPad each) can we buy the less expensive “two devices for one person” internet package or do we have to purchase the more expensive “one device for each person”?

This is for an upcoming cruise on the Symphony of the Seas.

Yes, this is the best way. You will share one login, but both of you can be logged in at the same time.

Not sure if this has been mentioned

Quantum cancelled the Vancouver to Hawaii cruise on October st '24.

Now available to book Seattle to Tokyo and Tokyo to Singapore as it's due a refit.

I was going to book the Hawaii one as a back up to Anthem Rome to Dubai. Lucky I held off

Tokyo to Singapore looks a good cruise.

If only the Seattle-Yokohama was leaving just a few days earlier. I’m on the Carnival Panorama Singapore-Long Beach on Oct 12 and would have definitely booked the Seattle-Yokohama and then flown to Singapore. A lot shorter flight.

Wonder what Rover thinks of all this, must be an overwhelming day for him

    He is a she.

That’s right, a female golden retriever named Rover is now living on board Icon of the Seas.

In a short video posted on Royal Caribbean’s social media channels, the line introduced Rover as “everyone’s favorite new crew member” and “family dog” of Icon of the Seas.

  8. I’m a solo traveler and never eat in the MDR. When I eat, I like to be left alone and control my portions. I always find something I like in the Jammer, and if I want to try something new, I can just take a little bit and not waste a lot. I can eat quickly and be off to do other things. I have noticed it’s starting to get more crowded, and sometimes it can be a game of dodging other humans while getting food, but I usually go when it first opens for dinner, so it’s not to bad.

Royal Caribbean has just announced itinerary change to the October 2024 Hawaii. The two days in Lahaina Maui will be skipped and they replace that with 1 day in Vancouver before departing, then head to Honolulu before going to Napali, then back to Honolulu for disembarkment. Don’t know what’s the point of spending the day in Vancouver and the ship will sails at 1pm. Very disappointed with this new itinerary. We’ll probably cancel to get a refund for this trip.

    Quantum or Ovation?

  10. I have used this technology back in 2021 on Carnival Panorama, but you had to hit the deck number for each person in your party. It’s just me, so it was simple. I never had any issue with anybody messing around with it. Of course, I saw plenty of confused people, so I would always stop to help. I thought it worked very well.

    @crzndebthank you.

What's your best guess as to where it may go?

    * Hoping it stays in the westcoast...sorry to all my lovely Aussie friends.

Quantum doing a west coast run? Or going to China?

There have been so many rumors about a Quantum class ship going to Los Angeles, so anybody’s guess is as good as mine. I’ve given up guessing what Royal will do with their ships 😉

I'm on the ship standing in the middle of four elevators ... I push the button saying I want to go to the 10th floor ... how does the system inform me of my elevator assignment?

I saw a YouTube video of somebody on the Icon, and after you push the button, it displays A-F (or however many elevators there were). You walk over to that elevator, which is marked on the outside and wait for it. There are no buttons on the inside of the cars. I  sure you could check YouTube and see exactly how it works.

I remember back when I was a first time cruiser, everything beat my expectations.

And I even remember back on my first cruise (1980-Sitmar), there was no internet…hahaha

You couldn’t come to a message board and ask a million questions. It was all a surprise and you learned as you went. And somehow, us oldie but goodies survived.
