  1. While I'm not sure about upgrades and we can only speculate without official word from Carnival - I do know that they throttle the internet speeds and bandwidth between services.

They say that premium (which is what I had) is up to 3x faster than value. This is a huge difference when premium only gets up to about 5 Mbps (maybe 6 max) down. With speed that low, cutting it by 3 is like going from broadband to dial up or 4G to 1X (phones)

  2. They must have upgraded the Glory. The Conquest was pathetically slow, even the top speed.
Medallion Net will be the upgrade but it doesn't have that yet. Premium max speed is about 6 Mbps down tops. Upgraded internet should be 10x faster. I've used it on Caribbean Princess.

Still though, the current system was very usable even for Netflix.

  3.

Just used the premium WiFi plan on the Glory for 7 days with excellent results. I was fully prepared for it not to work at all based on some older posts here but it was flawless (considering this is still the older system which hasn't been upgraded yet).

-WiFi signal was excellent throughout the entire ship. No issues anywhere.

-Connecting takes less than a minute. Just go to carnivalhub.com and it will ask for your folio # and birthday

-Speed was decent - ran few tests and it was around 6 Mbps on WiFi (up and down)

-I was able to use everything without any issues (Facebook, YouTube, YouTube Music, Google Photos, Gmail, Browsing, home automation apps, etc...)

    Even Netflix worked!

-I was able to make and receive phone calls via WiFi Verizon

-SMS and MMS messages also worked via WiFi (using Google Messages app)

-Switching the connection from one device to another was quick and easy. I let my 7 yr old son connect his tablet few times to use YouTube and he even downloaded few Netflix movies to watch offline later. Only took few minutes.

Conclusion is that the Premium WiFi plan works and should be more than sufficient for 99% of the cruisers

  4. Not sure about Magic but I just used the top tier internet plan on the Glory and it worked great. While not very fast by today's standards it was like original DSL. I did a speed test and it was between 5 to 10 Mbps down. I even tried Netflix which the plan said is not supported and it worked as well. Also WiFi was connected and working great everywhere on the ship. So I would assume Magic would be same as Glory since neither one has been upgraded yet

  5. Honestly I would recommend Royal Caribbean for teens. Not sure if your willing to not cruise on Carnival but Royal has much more to offer.....freedom class or oasis class
That being said it’s going to be more about what available and definitely a newer bigger ship
I agree about Royal Caribbean even NCL...
Again it's subjective but after being on 17 cruises as far as ranking by activities and ship it would be Royal > Norwegian > Carnival

*Disney was actually the best cruise I have ever been on even as an adult

  6. I got an email offering to upgrade from ocean view to balcony on the Panorama. It's going to be my 18th cruise and it's only the 2nd time ever receiving any upgrade offers. First time was for NCL and this was a first for Carnival

  7. This is not specific to Galaxy devices. Just put it on airplane mode and then turn WiFi and Bluetooth back on. That way your watch will remain connected to your phone and your phone will be connected to the ship Wi-Fi.

Prior response is incorrect. If the hub app generates a notification on your phone then you will get it on your watch as long as you have Bluetooth enabled. I am telling you this from experience. Using hub app to chat with my wife. I get notifications on my WearOS watch and my wife gets them on her Garmin watch.

  8. Trying to get some info regarding "Sharks, Rays, Barrier Reef Snorkel & Island Escape" excursion from someone who has been on it. It says minimum age is 5 and we will have a 7 year old with us who has never been snorkeling. Just trying to understand what type of 'snorkeling' is done here and if someone who is a complete beginner would be able to do this.

    Thanks

Rates change daily based on sales. If you check every day you will see the dramatic fluculations.

I wish. I have 2 cruises booked and been checking prices daily. Sometimes several times per day. Same price...

I also noticed that sometimes it changes and may look like sale but not really. They add OBC but raise the rate or vice versa.

We have only cruised Princess and the tv in the cabin is amazing.  They have tons of movies and tv shows to watch and you can watch a movie and turn it off half way thru and when you come back it will start where you left off.  Does Carnival have anything like this? Are there movies you can watch in your cabin?  We usually like to watch tv to wind down at the end of the night.  Thanks

Was wondering the same. We were on Princess few weeks ago and On Demand movies and TV shows were awesome. All Free. Plus everything they showed in the theater or outdoor screen was available on demand right after.

Your question as it is is too vague and seems to be a false generalization. If one brand stays later sail with them.

Why to people pick carnival then complain that they are not like royal?

Why can't people just ask questions without getting flamed? If they want to complain then let them.

I find the OPs question interesting and curious as to what the reason is...

  12. Our son is almost 7 now but when he was little we still cruised and took him. Same question came up about babysitting and Carnival was out.

Royal Caribbean has free daycare for babies and toddlers so we done that few times with him. Also Disney obviously has sitting service for small kids. We did that once as well, it was probably the best cruise experience and service but a bit expensive.
