  1. We did this cruise in October 2017 with Avalon and loved it! The scenery on the Moselle and smaller towns(loved Cochem) were beautiful. I still remember exiting the lock after Koblenz and seeing the stunning hills lined with vineyards! The weather was unseasonably warm so we were able to have an outdoor BBQ lunch on the top deck. Some mornings there was fog that restricted our views but that all added to the adventure. Unfortunately we have decided to cancel our May 2021 Avalon cruise as travel from Australia doesn't look like being back to normal by then. Hopefully we may be able
  2. Not interested in the baths either! We have a voucher with Emirates for our flights as we cancelled our Europe travel plans for this August and re planned for May 2021(though a totally different itinerary!!!). We will have transfers provided by Emirates. Just hope that international travel will be possible and safe by May next year.
  3. Thanks Daisi, I know the site you are using - yes it is very helpful! Hadn't thought of an evening cruise so will look into that. Are you staying at the Avalon Hotel or another hotel?
  4. Agree! we did a 5 day Connoisseur Tour last August (1 night Anchorage, 2 nights McKinley, 2 nights Denali, then direct train to Whittier). Being in the "middle of nowhere" wasn't an issue for us. We arrived around lunch time, there were presentations on in the afternoon (rescued bird presentation, base camp manager talk & photos), walked to the tree house and listened to a talk and sampling of Birch syrups. Next day we had booked an excursion on the Hurricane Turn train, so caught an earlier shuttle into Talkeetna to look around. This excursion was great! Small group and well worth the cos
  5. Daisi, yes not much we can do about the weather or water levels - just need to go with the flow! After the year we have had here in Oz, high or low water will not be an issue!! Are you staying a few extra days in Budapest? We hope to arrive the day before and looking at hotels to stay at and what to do that won't conflict with the Avalon activities.
  6. Thank you Daisi & notamermaid,, We haven't had issues on previous Avalon cruises organising a taxi to tarin stations, just wasn't sure about this being a smaller town. Will definitely use Deutsche Bahn to purchase our tickets, Let's hope that the water levels on the Danube are all OK and this dreaded virus is sorted by May 2021.
  7. Our Avalon cruise will be ending in Deggendorf. Hope to catch a train to our next destination and wondering if the cruise desk will arrange a taxi to take us to Prattling or what other options there may be?
  8. Just booked the Danube Dream cruise from Budapest to Deggendorf for May 2021. Plan on arriving the day before in Budapest, just looking at suitable hotels, not sure what hotel Avalon uses. Not sure if Avalon will have transfers to Munich or Nuremberg after the cruise, we plan on catching a train to the north of Germany for a few days. If not, presume that we will be able to arrange a taxi through the front desk to take us to Prattling to catch the train. Has anyone ended their journey in Deggendorf, if so how was the disembarkation?
  9. Thanks John for your detailed answers. Sorry I haven't acknowledged your reply earlier - having internet issues! Think we will pass on the walk!!!!! Might do a post on tripadvisor regarding the tube stations. Thanks again!
  10. Looking at options for our transfer from Southampton to Premier Inn Hotel Kings Cross on Thursday August 20th. Option 1: Catch a taxi to Southampton Coach terminal then National Express to Victoria Coach terminal then taxi to hotel. If we do self disembarkation how long should we allow after docking to book the time of bus. Option 2: Catch a taxi to Southampton Coach terminal then National Express to Victoria Coach terminal then train to St Pancras/Kings Cross - how difficult will this be with a suitcase each? Are there lifts or escalators at both stations? Option 3: Priv
  11. Yes up hill walk, though there is a 2nd walkway that is a bit less strenuous but is longer. Hubby doesn't like walking and he did not go and he would not have liked the uphill part. Walking back was great! Attended a presentation there on birch sap.
  12. Agree that people need to do their homework to check what is included. Tours that include the history tour can be changed to the TWT or Kantishna tours for an extra cost. We spent 12 days self driving from Anchorage to Seward, Homer, Summit Lake and return to Anchorage last year. We then joined a 5 night Princess Connoisseur tour(1 night Anchorage, 2 nights McKinley, 2 nights Denali and then train direct to ship) - time for someone else to do the driving etc! For us McKinley was great - we knew it was isolated but that is what we wanted. Spent time chilling on the deck, walked to th
  13. Just double checked and I must have been looking at the wrong date as we can purchase the 10-11 time slot!!! Will make sure we walk quickly back to the bus!!!
  14. Not 100% sure but I think if you want to explore on your own you will need to apply for visas. We have booked a private guide for our 2 days and they arrange a visa for us.
  15. Hadn't checked the website for Minatur wunderworld for a while as there were plenty of tickets. Just checked today and can only select 10.00-11.00 or 11.30 onwards - oops left it a bit late for the 10.30!!! Thinking of selecting the 11.30 -12.00 and hope that we may be able to enter earlier as you were able to - think this is a good idea or should we book the 10.00 -11.00? Do you remember what time you had to be back at meeting point for return to ship? Holland's website says it is a 7 hour excursion and departure is 8am, so taking into account the trip is 90 minutes each way should arriv
  16. Your photos are great! Was Matthew a private guide? How did you book this day trip - looks great!
  17. Thanks everyone, I did think it would be too close and I would be very stressed! Wanting to go to Museum Stoomtram, so will do the trip the day before original departure and will head to Delft on the back to back day. Have visited Amsterdam on 2 previous visits so want to go further afield.
  18. We are doing the 21-Day Norwegian Fjords & Baltic Jewels departing Amsterdam August 23 2020. We will be back in Amsterdam mid cruise (August 30) from 7.00 till 5.00pm. Trying to plan a day trip outside of Amsterdam and would like to know the final all aboard for returning passengers. May not arrive back at Centraal station until 4.00pm and would need to then get back to cruise terminal - think this may be too close?
  19. Thank you everyone for your suggestions they are very helpful. Would like it to be a slow day.
  20. Thank you for the update. We are thinking of an inside cabin( we will have just completed a 21 day cruise on Nieuw Statendam in a balcony). Had been looking at mid ship. Appears that that there are no inside cabins available on deck 8 only on deck 9, may look at the aft cabins(9215 a sideways cabin near stairs is available).
  21. Thanks everyone for the suggestions! Will look into catching the train to Cobh or Cork and looking/walking around.
  22. Thanks for the review we are hoping to travel on the Star next September - what cabin were you in?
  23. Will be visiting Cobh(Cork) next September and looking at things to do(prefer small groups or DIY). Not interested in visiting Blarney Castle which is included in a number of day trips. Any suggestions on tours to nearby areas/places to visit?
  24. Looking at inside cabin category IB for the British Isles cruise next September. Has anyone stayed in these cabins that are sideways, if so any issues?
