  1. Hello! We will be staying one night pre-cruise at the Radisson the port. Is there someplace within walking distance to eat dinner?

    Thanks for your help!

Hello Mapomp - right next door is Zackery's which is a mom and pop owned - Kelsey's pizza on the South side - if you will click right above my name, it will give you more information as to the places closes to the Radisson - not many choices, but they are nice and clean

  2. Shirley are these the stations that require you to put your zip code in and if you aren't local they charge you a much higher rate? We had this happen a couple of years ago but cancelled the transaction when we -luckily- noticed the unbelievable per gallon rate. Thanks for putting the word out.

These 2 companies have been gouging our visitors for years and they fought the city with tooth and nail against having to advertise their prices for gas - they have gone up as high at 7.99 a gal and noone would do anything about them - I know I called them several years ago to "protest" and the manager told me it was none of my business and if I kept up my "harssment", they would take action against me:( - one phone call created one angry manager - anyhow the city of Orlando will bring charges against those particular 2 if they do not display their prices where our visitors can see them BEFORE they enter their stations. Lets hope they take heed.

  3. UPDATE ON THE 2 GAS STATIONS THAT HAVE BEEN GOUGING OUR VISITORS:

Sun Gas Express and Suncoast Energy's gas stations, that are both close to the airport, were found guilty of NOT posting their price per gallon on gas and if they keep refusing to post their prices in a visual site, the fine will be $250.00 a day - Their charges are $5.99 per gallon and you are not aware until you get to the pumps - There have been so many complains that these companies have been allowed to gouge our visitors for years and nothing had been done to stop them. Finally someone did something about these 2 stations - you can find a station just a few blocks up from them with reasonable prices so please be aware OK?

    Good luck!!!!!!!!!!

  5. THANKS for the info about the italian place, probably only one that doesnt care for italian, but i definitely can be fine with Ihop;)

and THANKS beej for all the other info...sounds like we will be just FINE staying here:)

Hey Star - I love IHOP and go there usually on Sunday for their breakfast also if you will ask for Libby the owner and tell her you are off this board, she also will give you a treat for doing so.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. How long does it take to walk from the pier that NCL Jewel docks at to the Trolley stop? Is it an easy, safe walk?

Nope you can not walk - too dangerous - Jewel comes into terminal 5, large area with cabs & transportation - just catch a cab to where you might want to go and then discover the area on the trolley - very interesting and fun to ride the trolley -

  7. beej, wow you are fast and very helpful. Folks on this board always are but it helps to hear from someone who has actually stayed at the hotel. You have made it sound perfect for our needs. The breakfast you speak of sounds perfect for us, as we eat light in the morning anyway. I love Italian food so we are planning to eat at the restaurant everyone talks about. DH does not drink coffee but Starbucks it up my alley. A little shoppping for the two GS sounds in order at the surrounding areas. You mentioned a trolley. We love riding trolleys. Do you know where it go to? I am sorry to have so many questions but you have increased our excitement about out trip. lol

Here is a link you will really enjoy and answers your question about the trolley - you will use #9 for Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  8. 5 months before my cruise and just doing a bit more planning for the night before.

we did Grills last December, it was okay; but where would be a good place to eat?-we are staying at the Comfort Inn Cocoa Beach--will not have a car.

Hey there Star - Preston is right about Brandon's and if you mention you are off this board, they will give you an extra treat - ask for Erin, the GM, she will make sure of that treat - food is excellent although I am really don't care much for their food Norm is and a great judge of restaurants with great food:)

Take care and hope to catch up with you while here

  9. Can't wait to see whether they have broken ground for Terminal 6 when we cruise in August. Do you know which ships will use the new terminal? Are they putting in more parking? thanks

I don't know what cruise line will be going into Terminal 6 - I do know that all the cruisers and transportation are now being directed to the Northeast parking lot - looks like it has been going smooth - once everything starts, I am sure everyone will try and make it all as easy as possible. As I find out information, will post it -

  10. I'm sorry, I meant after KSC we are going further up to the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge and we were going to take a drive through that...

This is such a neat and interesting place - I remember when it first opened and the space center was entering into their height of flights - the ride through this wildlife refuge was taking my children on an adventure - there are several eagles who carried the tradition of building/repairing their old nest on top of electric poles every year - it was so amazing - I haven't been out there in so many years, but I can say, it is one of the most interesting rides you will have and enjoy - here is a link to help you better -

Hope you and your family truly will enjoy

  11. Do you recommend the Park n Cruise (Parking Lot outside the Port) as being safe and reliable to the Port Terminal? Cost seems to be a real good deal

    Hello oracer,

I had the chance to meet the owners and also had the chance to go out and look at their place and for the money, it really is nice and offer quite a bit of comfort - I see them at the port and appears they are always on time for drop offs and pick ups - on the other hand, a number of our hotels are beginning to make the same offer - Radisson should be receiving new transport vehicles any day now and I see them at the port with their courtier holding a banner up directing them to their bus so you won't get loss - there are a lot of changes going on at the port as they are getting ready for construction on terminal # 6 which will be located right by where the Carnival Sensation, NCL Jewel and Gem come in at.

  12. Thanks Shirley that helps, it made it sound like the Pier was right next door. But that is ok, it doesn't sound like it is very far. And thanks for letting me know about the parking at the pier.

It is less than a block away, very nice walk and if you go to the Atlantis Restaurant, ask for Theresa, tell her you are from this board and they will give you a nice treat.

You will be fine - BTW also let the hotels know for the credit does have to go to this board.

  13. Well we could not get a park & cruise package at the Best Western, they told me they did not have any left, so we ended booking at the Days Inn Cocoa Beach at the Pier. Hope we made the right choice, we just wanted to be close to the beach and the Pier for the night. Good price, $79.00 for two double beds plus tax. Includes breakfast. They will let us leave our car there and the shuttle is $8.00 round trip per person.

Cheryl - the Best Western and Days Inn are sisters and if you have any further questions, you can drop Linda a note at ldr@5500northcorp.com and she will be more than happy to help - went to the pier yesterday for brunch and I can truely say, going there at any time just seems to be so calming - anyhow they have a great buffet brunch that you can sit there and eat until your heart and stomach is happy - Now to go in and park, you are charged $10.00, but when you give your server your ticket, you do get it back - man I remember when parking there was free as the wind - oh well its worth it and you do get it back.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I have booked my daughter's wedding on Monarch for October 2012 and I'm looking for 1. a good hair salon to get her hair done early in the morning before the wedding and 2. a nail salon where I can take the bride and her attendants for mani/pedis the evening before we sail. I don't want to spend an arm and a leg, but I want some place decent and reliable.

This thread is AWESOME, by the way. These are answers you can only get from locals! Thank you guys!

OK if you will click just above my name, you will find the information you need but I will give it to you for "just in case" - one that is very experienced in dealing with brides and their hair is called DeMarco which was Clip N Save - they do it all including day spas - their phone number is 321-866-9000 and ask for Ella - she will even advise you what is best and if you mention this board, she will give you a discount - if you want to go somewhere else for the pedi/manicure, contact Hollywood Nails in Cocoa Beach - they are also excellent.

    Good luck and ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!1

  15. Wow only 100 post from 5000. Shirley it feels so good to know we have helped so many people!

More than you realize my friend - this thread is popular and if the search is done correctly, all the answers are here and all thanks to you for starting it a second time around :)

Glad you had the chance to get away for awhile - when you can, give us all the scoop

  16. Hey Shirley and Preston.......just returned this past Thursday from our wonderful Disney Dream cruise.....it was fantastic!!!!

Boy did we luck out with the lovebugs!!!! Since we didn't arrive until 9:00pm that Saturday we only started getting some about 20 miles out. (my hubby took the car & got it washed as soon as we arrived). When we left we didn't run into any!!! Now how lucky is that????

We look forward to being back in your area in October!!! Thanks a million for all the help!!!!

Hello GTO - so glad you had the chance to cruise from here - we will keep the lights on for your next time around:)

GOOD LUCK FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR

  17. As usual these boards were so helpful for our port Canaveral stay just prior to the Freedom cruise.

Had a good stay at the Radisson, ( we usually stay a little south and closer to the beach), knew about the bugs, - and knew to have the car washed when arriving in Port Canaveral, knew where to find the car wash, and had a good recommendation for dinner at Rusty’s . (Had a bonus to see the speedboats parked there too?

    Thanks

    M

You are most welcomed and now don't forget to come back and see us :)

  18. Shirley, haven't been around much, but just want you to know that good thoughts and prayers are there for you and your hubby. hope he is coming along splendidly.

Question, do you know when the church fair will be in the fall, or am i a little early. i love having all my ducklings in a row.

    hey there beej,

Usually it is in the middle of October when it is a little cooler and folks are ready for some super nice enjoyment.

Anyhow here is the website that you can keep an eye on as time goes by.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  19. I hope I don't seem naive, but what are love bugs? I've never heard of them hear in central New York. We have June bugs, or June beetles. Are they the same? I don't think so, because they are mostly out at night.

Believe me, you don't want their bodies splattered all over your vehicle - here is a link to explain a little more about them.

They have been known to really tear a car up or they get so bad on the radiator to create a problem. They are here by the trillions or more:(

  20. Shirley.....is there a car wash somewhere near the Country Inn & Suites we could use to get the love bugs off?

    Thanks

    Hello my friend,

There are 2 - one is called Happy Octpus which is about 3 blocks SOUTH of the Radisson

there you do it yourself --go in a slip, water splashes and scrubbs but no wiping down

Second is the Xtreme carwash and it is about 1/2 mile SOUTH of the Radisson and it is located at the fork of Astronaut and North Atlantic Avenue - right next door to the Lamppost Lounge on the beachside - there it cost about 13.oo and that includes washing all the love bugs off - their phone number is 321-783-3233

    Hope this will help
