  1. I hope Shirley has a great vacation. I will try to fill in why she is gone.

Let me tell you it is beautiful here this weekend. All my windows are open.

    Ask away!

My dear friend Preston - you started the first thread that was so popular, everyone had to join in if only to find out about what was going on here in Port Canaveral - when the first one was closed down, you started the new one and so glad you will be here to help all of our visitors that need our help.

Will be leaving tomorrow but got so much to do before I go so will tell you so long for now and Blessings be with you and the entire board

    hugsssssssssssssss to you my friend

Going to Key West, meet up with old time friends, visit all the places or what is left of them and have a Bahama Mama while doing so ;) -

  2. Shirley please enjoy your vacation!

Good morning Preston - "Key West, we may have a problem getting down to see you"

hey friend - looks like and we just don't know yet, but it may appear Key West will be getting lots of rain this weekend and if that is so, I rather be here at home than in a motel surrounded with rain storms :( - I mean I was born and raised down there and not concern with the weather, but if I am going to pay to stay in a room, might as well be here.

    Will keep ya posted.

Am going to the fair tonight for there are going to be some cruisers there I am going to meet up with IF we can recognize each other - Have you gone by the fair at Our Savior yet? MY gosh it looks like it is better than last year - traffic was wall to wall trying to come home from enjoying sushi at Siam Orchids last night AND folks running across the street with no regards to traffic SO PEOPLE if you are attending, please be very very careful and listen to all the patrol officers and crossing lights ok?

I have not been posting too much so I could completely finish working on the new updated of post #295 - added quite a bit of stuff so its going to be pretty neat when it is completed - I didn't realize the information was over 25 pages until I printed it out so am trying to number the pages so if anyone wants to print them out, they can just print the pages they want - it may take me a while longer since I AM NOT COMPUTER SMART ;)

Preston thanks from the heart for coming "home" and being such a great friend to a bunch of great folks who have become friends - YOU ARE SO WELCOMED BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (if only for a little while for I want to respect your wishes, but still love ya my friend - you do an awesome job and I sometimes really need your sense of humor here.

    Hugssssssss

    Shirley

  3. I have had numerous emails about the shuttle launch in November so please be advised of the following - first we are coming to the last of our shuttle launches and with each one, the whole area becomes more and more overwhelmed with a great deal of traffic and to make it even worse, tempers flare with the waiting lines - Because the launch is in the afternoon AND a Monday, you will also be faced with folks going/coming to/from work which also has to be included - the best bet is if you decide you won't be staying overnight, make sure you bring enough food & supplies, etc to last at least 2 to 4 hours after the launch especially if there are children - they can get bored just waiting around - I know darn well since I have been here to see just about every launch and decided years ago, I would watch it from home since it would take me over 2 hours to go less than 3 miles from home and with 5 kids plus neighbor's kids and dogs in the car, I told myself no darn way was I going to fight that again :) - once you are caught in the traffic, there is no way out.

The launches are so magical that you are caught with so many emotions. You will never ever regret watching a launch and live is like being "right there". Just remember to take all precautions to make your trip here a happy and safe one. I am constantly asked where is the best place to watch the launch and my answer is anywhere here is good especially on the beach. Post #295 has excellent advise on the launches and if you need help, that is the place to go.

Enjoy yourself while here and good luck in all your choices and endeavors.

  4. I agree with Preston....Beef O'Brady's is a good place for families and kids. Burgers, wings and other American comfort food. Over in the Publix shopping plaza. That would be my first pick, and I do take my family there.

However, you can also walk to the Cocoa Beach Pier (five minutes?), and there are a couple restaurants there with a view if you prefer. One is very informal and the other a little dressier. Both are physically on the pier. There are a couple others nearby that are more "bars", but have food, too.

There is even a Durango Steak House if you like that sort of thing, and a good breakfast place (I hear...never been in it)....both within a couple hundred yards.

    Hope this helps

    Johncn

Just for everyone information - Durango's closed their doors about a month ago :(

You have Boston Seafood, of course the CB Pier which seems to be a favorite for a lot of folks unless it is freezing cold, across the street as Preston mentioned the strip mall

You would have to walk South for a little bit to find other restaurants.

  5. Shirley

I hope that good weather remains....and if you can send good thoughts down towards Cozumel, Belize, Guatamala and make Tropical Storm Paula go away, those of us leaving on NCL Sun on Saturday would really appreciate it!

I know those feelings only too well Clay - I really do hope you have beautiful weather and if Paula is to be, I pray it is just a rain storm and will go away quickly. If it is to be, better than a hurricane - good thoughts going out to you -

  6. OK here is something neat if you are going to be in the area - we have the U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds air show being held here on October 30 to the 31st. You can go to http://www.cocoabeachairshow.com for more information - Its going to be centered at Lori Wilson Park with viewing on the beach with exhibits, simulators etc -

I have seen them preform for years and I still am in awe with each new show.

PS if you purchase advanced tickets online prior to the 15th, you get a 10% discount - use the code rack

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Shirley-I am 99 percent sure you can do this....you may want to put in your signature a link to post #295 this will allow everyone to go directly to it and you don't have to reference it. You might just before the link put in all caps

    something like:

THE POST THAT HAS REFERENCES TO ( AND THEN LIST SOME STUFF)

then put the link.....then you can just say see signature below for link

Not trying to tell you what to do...I PROMISE...been in the hot seat toooo many times! But just an idea!!!

    Lou

LOU YOU ARE A BLESSINGS, BUTTTTTTTTTTT I am so darn not very savvy on computers - can you please drop me a note at snelsonbrown@aol.com so you can guide me please = pretty please

Thanks more than a whole bunch ;)

  8. Hi Shirley, My DH and I are sailing out of Port Canaveral in January and I am try to find a hotel that offers free or reasonable transfers from the Orlando airport and to the cruise terminal. Any suggestion?

the only one that offers free shuttle service is the Radisson - the others will make sure you have transportation to the port - go to post #295 and it will give you all the information you will need - as soon as I can, I will update the post - it is ready to go

  9. Shirley - you seem to know so much I am hoping you can help.:o

Cruising out of Maryland on RCCL Enchantment of the Seas with a stop in Port Canaveral (all day). Travelling with 4 adults and 3 teenage boys (14,15,17) - need a fun activity we can all do but that will be tiring for the boys. They have vetoed kayaking as "boring" (they have done it alot) so we were thinking of paddlesurfing.

Do you have any suggestions of good companies to go with? Do they provide transportation from the pier?

Also any other suggestions for things to do in Pt Canaveral (not theme park or space center) would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks

    Melissa

    Hello Melissa

WOW!!! can 3 teenage boys be tired out??? I never could and I sure tried with my 5 and never succeeded - I do not know how long you will be in town and its going to be kinda tough without transportation right there - the only thing in Cape Canaveral is Jetty Park which has fishing, swimming etc - it really is a great place to go and relax - you would have to take a cab over - I wish I could say there is a lot of stuff for teens to do here, but I have to be honest and say no unless they are interested in fishing and swimming - tell you what, let me check on a couple of things and then I will get back to you or if you have the chance drop me a note at snelsonbrown at aol dot com and just maybe you can give me more suggestions as to what they would enjoy doing and I can help better ok>

sorry I wasn't more help at this time but again will start looking into stuff they have enjoy

PS when are you suppose to be here for that will count in a lot of ways - winter, spring etc

  10. Shirley, i know that the BW is right there at the Cocoa Beach Pier. Is that where everyone goes to see the ships sail out on Saturday.

Plan on going to the Church fair on Friday night. We'll be looking for the Keywest Top!

Hey there my friend - you can see the ships sometimes from the Cocoa Beach Pier, but the best place to see them is at the Cove where Grills, Fishlips and Rusty's is - I don't know how late the trolley runs, but there is a place to catch it right there at BW - see ya on Friday night after I finish work, come home and change and then Norm and I will be there most likely having a beer, coke and some oysters - we will see - the church is already setting up and getting ready for their yearly carnival time - only time I can find cotton candy and candy apples :-)

Looking forward to catching up with ya

BTW if you have any questions or need help, ask for Linda at BW and she will amaze you with help in any way she can.

    Hugsssssssss

  11. Hey Shirley......we were just in Cape Canaveral this past May and we will be there once again in about 5 weeks and cannot wait!!!! We just love sailing out of that area!!!

Thanks again for all your valuable help!!!!

Come on down girlfriend - I see you are going on the Freedom - beautiful ship

Glad it isn't this week - lousy weather :(

  12. Hello Shirley

I see the thread is going well. How about if I ask a question? I am having my bathroom remodeled and will need to get out for a day or two. Can you suggest a place on the ocean to stay that is the best bang for the buck?

I don't want to spend a fortune just a nice place to sleep and take a shower. You always seem to know the properties so well.

I hope all is ok with you!

    Hello Preston,

I am emailing you some information and also need a huge favor from you - I will be flying out in late October to spend some time with my girl and need you to take over for me while I am gone - since you are the brainstorm of the thread, I know you can handle it much better than I

thanks and sure wish you would stop by more often for I dont' always have the answer

    Hugssssssss

    Shirley

  13. Hi Shirley,

We will be traveling with 2 other couples in February and staying precruise one day in Cocoa Beach. We will probably stay at LaQuinta Inn & Suites Ocean because of proximity to restaurants and the water. Do you have any idea what a shuttle or taxi would cost to take us to the Port the morning of departure? Also, if using a shuttle to get to the port, can I arrange it when we get there? Just trying to get a general idea of cost so I can inform the other couples in our party. Thanks so much for the wonderful information!

    Gym2

    Hello Gym2,

First thank you for coming for a short stay here in our beautiful town of Cocoa Beach and Cape Canaveral - you will love LQ and Chris the GM is a great one who will help you will advise etc - now all you have to do is when you sign in, tell Debbie or Danielle that you need a ride to the port and they will arrange it all for you - the cost is between 3 to 5 dollars per person OR you can go to post #295 and drop Chris an email and he will get back to you.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. I am traveling solo with no car. I am staying at the Doubletree Cocoa Beach. Will I be able to walk to liquor store, grocery store, restaurants safely?

I am planning on calling VIPlimo for a private car from MCO. This isn't the company having trouble with the credit cards is it?

Thank you so much for your continued help!!

Hello missbogota, FIRST AND FOREMOST NO THE LIMO COMPANY IS BASED IN ORLANDO, FLORIDA -

Now at Doubletree you have a Publix Grocery store settled in a small shopping - there is several places to eat in that small shopping mall - now Publix carries wine and beer but no hard liquor so you would have to catch a cab to go to ABC Liquor which is about 1/2 miles SOUTH of the Doubletree - you should have no problems.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!

You will enjoy Michael with vip for he will give you a lot of information as to what to do and what not to do.

    Good luck

  15. One more question...do you think the girls will be better off using the Travelynx 14 passenger van to go back to the Orlando airport, or the RCCL bus. RCCL is more expensive...but they have to make their flight, and I was just wondering which would be best and more reliable...any ideas on this?

What you do want madre is a straight shot shuttle simply because a lot of times, the shuttles stop to pick up passengers - I like Travelynx and I also like Viplimo and Beachline - I like most of them in fact.

You can do a search and write them all an email for I know there are emails in here for all of them and they will make you feel more secure in their comments.

Let me know what you decide ok? I do understand your concern - you can drop me a note and I will give you my cell phone number in case they have a problem - snelsonbrown at aol dot com

  16. Thank you! Do you know about how long it takes to get from the pier to the Orlando Int airport? We get in on the Carnival Dream 8AM and our flight is at 12:22PM - I am hoping we can get our family of 5 into a rental car or shuttle maybe?? and get to the airport in time??

From the port to MCO is 46 miles and a straight shot so you shouldn't have any problems.

You can use a rental car who does have shuttles at the port to their rental office such as Hertz, Budget, Thrifty/Dollar, Avis and Enterprise all within a couple of miles apart -

Then you have shuttles and limo service such as Beachline, Travelynx, Viplimo, Mears to name a few that can also help. You can do a search and look for those that have had good reviews.

    Good luck
