  1. This totally off any subjects but if anyone is interested in getting our local newspaper which is the Florida Today on the coverage of our last shuttle launches, you can call them at 1-877-424-0156 and ask for details - I have always collected the newspaper of all the launches and my kids are still enjoying them after all these years. Good for the kids for show and tell, history, science or just to keep of the days that were.

    this is just a thought

  2. Shirley to let you and everyone know the cabs at the port are allowed in each day by a lottery and are looking for an airport run. If they take a local fair they cannot get back in. Being that they are not regulated they may set the meter to high. On one cruise they tried to charge me $30 for a trip home right here in CC.

The best thing to do is call a local company who can come into the port to pick you up and then it will be a few dollars to the library or where ever you need to go.

Shirley do you have a few listed on your info link?

Hey there Preston - I am glad that you told me this and yes I do have a few listed, but the one that has become so popular for cost, driver's politeness, etc is AAA Taxi - I did check them out after I had done an update - they can email for information at info@aaataxionline.com or website at http://www.AAAtaxionline.com/

Since my dad was a cab driver many many years ago, I can understand the importance of losing in a place in line.

NOW this is only for taxi service for you do have other choices on post 862 for taxi and shuttles

Hope that this will help everyone

  3. I know I read on one of these pages about a "beach trolley" that goes to Ron Jon's and Walmart among other places. Where can I find a map of where this trolley goes and a schedule with times and stops? What is the actual name of the trolley? TIA

    Peg

Here you go - I know folks that have used and LOVED it - found they could travel at a low price, chat with folks that were on the bus and have a chance to just kinda look around here -

    Keep us posted ok?

  4. Thank You Shirley. Are there taxi's right at the port, and would that be the best way to get to Zackery's? I've never used wifi in a restaurant, is there a separate room for it or what? I can't imagine everyone with a laptop on their dining table. Where is the library located and how would I get there?

Hello Peg - yes there are cabs at the port and here is a link to the library - the wifi at Zackery's is on your right when you first walk in - its not bad although I have never used it.

Here is the link to the library

    http://local.yahoo.com/info-14149466-cape-canaveral-library-cape-canaveral

    Good luck :)

  5. I looked all though Shirley's post but do not see any info on internet cafes. Where is the best place to access the internet, accessible by the "shuttle" from the Port? Is this an actual shuttle or the bus system that you can access right at the port? Is there a schedule for it? TIA.

Hey there peg013 - Zackery's Restaurant which is sandwiched between the Radisson and the Residence Inn has free WIFI and as for the "shuttle" from the port, I will have to let someone else give you that info - I did find out yesterday when I went to vote, that the library here in Cape Canaveral does have a great computer system and they will give you a day's pass if you have ID to use them - I believe the only problem would be if folks are already sitting at them. I am going to try and find out about if we have internet cafes here close to the port - HEY PRESTON WHERE ARE YOU???? - YOU ARE GOOD ON THIS ONE

  6. Really.......Shirley.......69 degrees in Cape Canavaral for the HIGH on Saturday ...Oh my!!!!

Oh well at least I know we are headed to warm waters come Sunday....:D

For all those traveling this weekend....be safe.....and Happy Sailing!!!!

OK GTO-Girl -smartie pants - you gave me my laugh to start my morning with ;) so I did want to thank you for that - Norm and I were both born and raised in Key West, Florida and if it goes below the 70's here, I, myself, feel like I am at the North Pole :) - really being right on the ocean, it does feel much cooler - the weather says about 47 for this weekend in the mornings getting up to about 72. I forget folks from a cooler state, do enjoy this type of weather since they have to deal with a heck lot more - so come on down and I will look for a gal that is in shorts and a tank top and you look for someone that is wrapped up as if she was at the North Pole ok? Thanks really for just giving me a smile so early in the AM for it makes for a great way to wake up to -

Stay safe and have a great time

    Hugssssssss

  7. Just for those reading....the beach is filling up a little with spectators for the airshow! We are at the Hampton Inn with a great 6th floor balcony that faces the air show space.

THE WORLD Cruise Ship is supposed to be here today "in the air space" to watch the show...don't see her yet!

    Lou

Hello Lou, so glad that you have such a great view of it all - we can see just about all of it from here at home - are you staying until Tuesday for the launch? Let me know OK

  8. H-E-L-L-O...... SHIRLEY!!!!!

One week from today we will be driving down to PC to get on the Freedom and will be staying at the Radisson.......I'm so excited!!!!

Thanks a million for all of your help and I promise we will obey the speed limit coming into the area (just as you taught us to do).....:D

Thanks a million for all your help!!!

Hey there GTOgirl - well I know you must be excited after all the anticipation of your upcoming cruise. You should be having pretty weather and all the half of million folks that are due to be here this weekend through Tuesday for the Air Force Air Show and the last shuttle leaving Tuesday, will all be over and you should have smooth sailing.

It was all of us pleasure to been of help.

Stay safe and have a great time on your cruise

  9. I have a question for you all what time does the nail salon close out their?

I am assuming that you mean what time do they open and close?

They open at 9AM and close at 7PM

Hollywood Nails is South of Highway 520 in Cocoa Beach and DaVi that is now at Wal-Mart Merritt Island.

These are the only ones that I know about and both excellent and very clean which I highly respect and like.

If you mention this board, they will give you a discount also.

  10. It was loud here today.

Preston wasn't that beautiful also did you see the fellow that gets up at least once a month and does all of his stunts? I was kinda concern since he was doing his stunt, then there was another small plane flying around the Banana River and then of course the Blue Angels - Tomorrow is going to be awesome but traffic is going to be even heavier, but that is ok - the more the merrier :)

  11. oh its coming up so fast and its gonna be so WELCOMED we NEED this!!

glad you had a GOOD time, sorry you got lost...i have heard more stories with the GPS and being LOST:eek:

the info has been GREAT and it definitely has helped and i know we are going to have a NICE stay after the RADISSON after BEACHLINE TRANSPORTATION drops us off and then for all the recommends we will choose a GOOD place to eat and a taxi to the port in the morn and we will be on our way!!

THANKS AGAIN;)...this is THE BEST THREAD at CC!!!:)

    have a SPOOK-tacular weekend SHIRLEY:D

    Hello star

Just wanted to take the time to wish you the best of everything and let us know how you made out -

The Blue Angels were out today in full force for tomorrow and Saturday is their day to really show the world what America is REALLY made of - Monday we have our last Discovery shuttle launch

:( wow after 47 years, of watching those beautiful birds going toward the skies are sure gonna be super missed.

Anyhow many many blessings and a safe and enjoyable time. Glad we could all help.

  12. Hello and thanks for all the valuable information in this thread! We are cruising out of Port Canaveral in January and are arriving in Orlando via Amtrak. Have been researching transportation options from Orlando to Cocoa Beach hotel, and have a reasonable quote from Around The Clock Shuttle. Can anyone give input on previous experience, reliablility, etc?

    Thanks in advance!

    Cindy

    Hello Cindy,

I, myself, have never heard of them, but I am sure someone will post something that will help you

    Good luck :)

  13. Well talk about almost jumping out of my skin, I did a little while ago - sitting at the traffic light when I heard this LOUD and horrific noise - didn't know where it was coming from and all of a sudden this huge faster than light plane flew overhead - it was the Blue Angels practicing for their show - traffic just stopped, folks jumped out of their cars to see the sight and take pictures, but there is no way any pictures could have been taken for they were there and then G-O-N-E - If you are going to be here for the show, believe me they will be sure preforming just for you.

    ENJOY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  14. WELCOME BACK Shirley...GLAD you had a GOOD time and were able to get away!!!

GREAT for the post with all the info too...lots of work...MUCHLY APPRECIATED will be in your FAIR PORT 5 weeks from this coming friday:D

Hey there Star - the trip was just great - so much new construction going on the way down to Key West, that it was hard to pinpoint places I remember as a young kid - I remember when we could stop the car on top of one of the bridges, fish over the side of them and we were lucky if one car came by in all that time - now we are lucky to be able to jump back in your car if we get out :)

Anyhow with such a short time to edit, I found a lot of broken links so I am going to have to repost the new update, but not for a little while - it at least gives enough information to help those coming here and not feel so at lost. Its kinda scary going into a strange place and know nothing about the area - my gosh coming back from Key West, Norm and I had to stop in Miami for business and I was so darn scared AND lost, that when we finally got on 95, I kept telling my loverboy (our GPS) that I forgave him for getting us lost for just a few minutes there in Miami, but getting us out as quickly as he did. My goodness felt like I should have been looking for a shuttle launch. I loved the area though and found so many places I wanted to stop and eat, but Norm felt it was best to get into areas we knew like home :)

Anyhow glad the days are counting down for you - enjoy and hope all the information has helped you feel a little more comfortable.

  15. Shirley, I know this is a little out of your region but thought you may have heard people talking so I thought I would ask. We believe we will staying in Orlando on Dec.31. I am looking for a hotel with shuttle provided to hotel. Have you had anyone comment to you about places they have stayed while in Orlando. Unfortunately we are on a budget. Thanks thought it was worth the asking.

Hello lincolndog, I know so little about Orlando, but I understand that Michael from Laura's Shuttle has his office at The Sleep Inn and he does come over to the port. I understand this hotel is inexpensive, but clean and nice - again can not say yes or no to this place.

Here is the information and just maybe you can drop him a note and he may be the best one to help you if you can not find anything else.

    Good luck

  16. Are you home? How was the trip?

The trip to mine and Norm's hometown of Key West was so nice - the weather was great, the ride through the keys were more beautiful than ever and getting "home" put a lump in our throats. Most of the ol' conchs have moved from KW but we went to their favorite watering hole to get our usual - cuban coffee and bread although for the first time in KW's history, noone is able to get the real cuban bread since all the old bakeries have closed down. Got to the graveyard and assessed what all had to be done, sat with my cousin who is the sexton and was able to research quite a bit on the families on both side.

Had an excellent conch meal at Rusty's Anchor which had the Key West lobster and the stone crabs - as I told Norm, we paid a high price for what use to be staple food for us, but the meal was over the top. Traffic was horrific and it seems to get more confusing each time we go down, but still loved it all to be able to go "home" if only for a little while.

Thanks my friend for everything - you are a great friend with a wealth of information for so many and I am blessed.

  17. Good morning,

I have done an update on the information list and unfortunately I ran out of time to make some changes but it is as up-to-date on a number of places, things to do, what to do etc.

I did some checking today and if you do NOT fill your gas tank before turning it in, you will be charged $6.999 a gal so save yourself a little bit of monies by stopping at one of the gas stations before you turn it back in.

Just food for though or should I say just gas for though ;-)

    Closest Hotels to Port Canaveral

All below 3 Cape Canaveral hotels are about 2 miles from the port and offer rooms with a view of the port, where you will be able to see the cruise ships in the morning. Be sure and sign up for the port shuttles. None of these 3 hotels are on the beach nor is it within walking distance of the beach (5 min cab ride). If you want the beach close, look for a hotel in Cocoa Beach – beachfront hotels are posted further down.

Breakfast buffet for $9.95, some higher rates include breakfast

Radisson webcam (points to the port):

    http://www.radissonport.com/CruiseShips.htm

    ROOM INFORMATION PER REQUEST

None of the rooms will give you an ocean view since they are several blocks from the ocean. The standard rooms are only 2 stories. The suite buildings are 3 stories. For standard rooms and either the 200 or 400 building for suites. The 200 building is closer to the pool although the pool area may get quite noisy so if you want a quiet area request courtyard views. The most favorite rooms are in the 800 building 2nd floor facing the pool. Be aware that most of the pool side rooms are king rooms. There are just a few rooms with 2 beds facing the pool.

Due to the construction of high rise condos, there are very few rooms that will give you small views of the ships unfortunately none have a wide open view of the port any more.

Where can I buy gas for my rental car/food /snacks/alcohol /toiletries I forgot to pack?

About a mile past the entrance to the port (right next door to Residence Inn and Country Inns and Suites) is a big Racetrak mini mart/gas station for beer and probably some wine plus other supplies as water, sodas, snacks etc. Most stores that sell only beer and wine and are allowed to sell between 7 am to 2 am except most places on Sunday don’t start until 12PM. Racetrak has a very friendly staff members and have been known to help many number of lost guests find themselves on the right road.

They also now have beach supplies such as sunglasses, sun lotion etc and working toward getting more supplies on hand.

Can I walk to the port from my hotel?

It’s about 2 miles from the closest hotel (Raddison or Country Inns and Suites), along a highway with no sidewalk. Not recommended!
