  1.

I`m kinda POed!!! ncl knew about this moths ago but waited until allota final payments got in.

We all know that the cruz lines read these threads so:

Bad policy NCL!!! 12 years since I`ve sailed you, now it looks like another 12 will go by, God willing.

  2. Norwegian Cruise Line is developing the Caribbean's premier destination experience at Harvest Caye, Belize. This spectacular resort-style port of call will feature an expansive pool, exclusive beach, shallow lagoon for watersports, private luxury cabanas and many more exciting features. We are dedicated to delivering the highest quality amenities and services to our guests in one of the richest ecosystems in the region with a diversity of flora and fauna that is core to the Harvest Caye experience. As a result, the grand opening of Harvest Caye will take place in November 2016. Guests sailing on Western Caribbean cruises now through mid-November will enjoy the beauty, adventure and rich history of this country with a call in Belize City.

Further details on the destination and the experiences will be revealed in early 2016 and we look forward to welcoming our guests to Harvest Caye this fall. A communication to booked guests will be sent later this week with revised itinerary details.

Could you provide a news link?

  3. A little off topic, but I think goes to the heart of the question.

We`ve cruzed about 20 times: CCL, RCL, Costa etc. Going on NCL Star in March

We were curious about the monster ships: I recommend trying RCL`s Allure of the Seas or her sisters. It was wild seeing inside facing balconies, as you had breakfast in Central Park with live trees and birds chirping as the center of the ship is open. We tried to do it all: ice skating shows, high-diving show off the stern, ABBA play, some wild production with people floating around. The bar that goes up and down 2 floors, the parades, a Merry-go-round, 2 surf-riders, a zipline...music Everywhere. Not for everybody, but you should try it once. The entertainment will blow you away. JMHO!

  4. I'm supposed to be on the first ship to Harvest Caye.. what's there to do in Belize City instead since it seems people would rather go there?

Outside of Australia, Belize has the 2nd largest barrier reef in the world. This makes for some spectacular snorkeling/diving.

Belize City, itself is not safe, outside the gate, so make sure you book a reliable excursion company! Caye Caulker is very nice!

  5. I'm assuming you are being sarcastic. Original question still stands.

    Sorry...Couldn`t resist.

I`m curious about that as well. With NCL`s lack of news releases, we may not know anything until the 1st cruzers go there and report in=Hopefully February.

  6. Love the CM a few months back. The Adriatic is so port intensive, that we say it was just this wonderful hotel following us around some the best scenery in Europe. The drink pkg was great an convenient. Our table mates were a riot. If I were to change one thing...ADD SOME MEAT to the breakfast buffet.

  7. Never use a credit card at an ATM to get cash. You will be charged a cash advance fee and the cash advance will start earning interest charges from the moment you make the transaction, even if you pay it off in 30 days.

Only use a credit card to make purchases. Use credit cards with no foreign transaction fees. Google "no foreign transaction fee credit cards" for a list.

Many European credit machines are "chip only". Most new US credit cards now have a chip. Some unmanned European ticket kiosks require "chip and pin". Not a problem if you're not taking any public transportation where tickets are sold only by machine. There are very few US credit cards that are "chip and pin", most are "chip and signature". Google "chip and pin credit cards".

I personally carry a "Barclaycard Arrival +" card that is chip and pin technology, has no foreign transaction fee and earns 2X points on purchases, but carries an $89 annual fee starting the second year. I'll probably cancel and switch before the fee is due; there will be other chip and pin cards by then.

Use a Debit Card for ATM cash. This is your own money, drawn from your own checking account, so there are no cash advance fees or interest. Of course, you have to pre-load your checking account with enough cash to handle your anticipated needs; figure on twice as much as you intend to spend. Find and use a Debit Card with no ATM fees. Google "no atm fee debit cards".

I personally use a Schwab Bank High Yield Checking Account which issues a Platinum Debit Card that is Chip and Pin, with no foreign transaction fees and no atm fees (if you are asked to pay a fee, Schwab reimburses you for the fee on your monthly statement). You will have to open a Schwab One brokerage account and the checking account, but you do not have to maintain any balance in the brokerage account, and don't have to use it. Use this link..

With any card, if you are given the opportunity to enter a 4 digit PIN number, do not start the numb er with a zero or it will not work in Europe.

All this is based on nearly 10 years experience including many European cruises. We are currently getting ready to sail a 180-day Around-The-World cruise on Oceania Insignia, beginning Jan 4, 2016, so this information is critical to us.

agree with most of this. We did the Adriatic and pretty much behaved like at home. Had to get the dopey Kunas in Croatia-100 for 2 beers!!! But the scenery and peeps were spectacular!!!

  8. Agreed should never change cash at the airport. But I've also never been to an airport that didn't have an ATM somewhere.

Oh ... wait ... I take that back ... Madrid. The one ATM machine in the whole terminal was out of order.

Madrid is one of the biggest Clusters. You go down thee levels underground to do a passport check, then back up, once you`re in the US bound area-no restaurants/bars just food machines and you can`t get back out. Lines everywhere, the food we did get stunk. And the thing is brand new!

  9. We were on the Epic in January. By the time we boarded we could hardly get reservations for anything. It was all booked up.

As we approach final payment for this January's cruise on the Getaway people on our roll call are already talking about what they have booked in advance.

It kind of makes me sad but also makes me frustrated. How the bleep am I supposed to know now -- in October -- when I want to see what show & at what time on my vacation next year? That's hardly freestyle to me. It basically means we will be blocked out of most shows again or I have to have this rigid, regimented cruise that revolves around a clock & a calendar, which is a particular p.i.t.a. because there are few clocks anywhere on board.

Is it just me? I liked the "old" option of looking at the Freestyle Daily during the day & deciding no more than an hour in advance what we were doing that night & when.

Holly S___! Otter! New to NCL, but a veteran cruzer. Just what all do I need to book in advance for the Star in March.

  10. MB is Carnival's- and so many cruisers stay there that they make a ton of money. I don't think MOST people venture out of MB. Carnival doesn't want to miss this port.

(Heck even ports they don't own- it is bad for business to miss ports. Missed ports don't make happy cruisers in the long run, even if the cruise line might make more money that day in on board revenues.)

Tend to disagree. If it`s Carnival and there`s more than a breeze...It`s Sea Day!!! Spend lot`s of $$ on board gambling an drinkin. We`ve missed GC (x2), Aruba and Costa Rica (back when) due to "high winds" Last March we had 4 sea days in a row. I`ve no idea why TAs cruz, but I`m not fond of more than 1 sea day. We don`t cruz CCL as much anymore.

  11. It`s true in Tennessee and across the country as far as I know. Less than 24 hours in an port and you`re good to go! I was surprised at the change, but glad, as I`ve not donated in 5 years due to cruzing to endemic areas.

Funny though...mosquitos don`t wear watches. You could get bit in 5 minutes off the ship by a bad boy...who knows?
