Reykjavic - Golden Circle - For Mobility Impaired?

Recommended Posts

I'm considering the Golden Circle excursion. Wondering if I should book it. I've heard there are a lot of steps (around 100) at the Golifoss Falls. Can I see the falls w/o taking the steps?

Are the steps with handrails, and are the steps together?

Is there a lookout from the gift shop/cafe?

You can *see* the Falls without taking the stairs, but you can only *feel* them by getting closer.

Iceland isn't very friendly to the mobility impaired. Most hotels have stairs, and most natural sites require stairs or traveling on uneven ground.

Here is a view from the parking area: https://goo.gl/maps/4MBnvNMAA8K2 If you go go Google Maps there are lots of images you can click on to see the view from the parking area and other close by positions

They've put in new steps at Gullfoss but there are still a ton of them. Our last tour guide dropped folks at the bottom so everyone could get a good look. If you didn't want to or couldn't climb the stairs, he drove you up to the visitor's center at the top after you took your photo down below.

Otherwise we didn't find the tour problematic for hubby's mobility issues. He stayed on the bus sometimes because it was a long day with plenty of walking, but most everything on the tour was accessible.

I just did a quick overview last week on the tour here:

We circumnavigated Iceland last summer including the Golden Circle. I was using my rolling walker. I did on occasion do three or four steps but accommodations were an issue only one time. I brought my handing disabled tag and found handicapped parking in at least half of the paved parking lots. I saw EVERYTHING! I may not have gotten the "perfect" view or pic but my boyfriend always did.

A wheelchair or scooter would not be able to go all the places I did. The extent of your disability could make a difference for you. If you have questions I'm at lacat3cruising dot gmail
